They cut the cost. They aren't losing as much anymore. In fact its probably closer to being profitable. Is Microsoft even making money yet? Probably still feeling the pinch on that extended 3 year warranty.

They were losing $200 USD on each $599 PS3 sold 11 months ago, I can't imagine the manufacturing costs have dropped that significantly within a year.

The price of technology drops so fast you have no idea. Why do you think you can get a80 GB Ipod for 249? A year ago that would've cost you 300-400 bucks. Even more so two years ago. Why do you think DVD players cost 50 bucks now? I remember paying 250 for my first DVD player.

Its not really about whether you NEED a DVD player in the Wii. Its really just a standard. Something you expect to get. It shows that it keeps up with current standards as well as adding something new. What if the next Ipod didn't have a video player in it? Why go backwards? WHy remove features that are so darn cheap?

In my eyes thats not a bad deal,I want a PS3 and I might get the 40g, but hey thats me I still have my PS2 so really Im good as for you, well I can see why your upset...well you could always 1up me and get the 60g and have your PS2 backwards compatiblity

You forgot to include the cost of changing the production to a new process. It's not just a matter of "hey, lets make the process smaller... OK!". When Intel changed their process, it cost them around 450 mil to make the switch.

The new PS3 DOES still play PS1 games. It just doesn't play PS2 games.

First of all the core is the worst selling of all 300 kinds of 360's

Secondly once you add a hard drive to the core it plays (not all but no 360 plays all) XBOX games

Ps3 sales will sky rocket , I think its obvious that the Ps3 will sell around 7 millions in the next 3 months and outsell the wii by a lot.

1) dont you still have your PS2?.. if you dont and if it's THAT important, just buy the $99 PS2 or pay the extra $100 for the 80gb PS3 (if sony decides to drop the current bundle).. :|..

2)last time i checked, the 360 didnt have the best B/C and no lemmings really complained.. why is this such a huge issue for playstation fans who still have the option of buying the 80gb PS3 if B/C is that important to them?..

3)the 40gb PS3 is meant to target those potential PS3 buyers that were willing to pay $400 for a 360 (and are currently willing to pay $350 for the 20gb premium and over $400 for the Elite).. these people care more about pricepoints than playing their old PS2 or Xbox games..

It's here permanently, and it's compatible with PSone games but not PS2 games. They took out the required graphics chips and emotion engine that played PS2 games.

No B/C = no buy. Sorry but B/C is a big deal to me. Hopefully by the time FFXIII and MGS4 come out they have a SKU that is....
