honestly, i think everybody except die hard nintendo fans areat least a little skeptical of 3DS...as great as it sounds, the first month or so for the system are sounding a bit dissapointing (bad launch games, online store delay, too many unknown release dates)

But what im curious of is if u guys think its stupid to wait longer...i have two reasons to pose this question.

1. Firstly, the obvious fact that if u dont buy a 3DS on day one, ur either gonna have to spend an extra fifty bucks in gas to find one or an extra one hundred to buy off ebay. Even if the launch titles dont thrill u, at least u have it, right? Because, think, the first several months of a systems launch it stays hard to find, and around the time one would expect 3DS sales to slow down, its xmas buying season! So it could be hard to find for rest of the year. So if u dont have a ds and hate the3ds launch titles, why not just get pokemon white or black to keep u occupied? I dont see whats bad about that.

2. Fear of a 3DSi or 3DSxl....okay no matter what nintendo says...yes those systems are coming, of course they are! But even still, for all u know that wont come till four years into the system's life span. For example, it took many years for xbox 360 to get its update. The Wii has already proven nintendo doesnt have to constantly upgrade...all they did was make a black wii. People are afraid a new one will come out with better battery and will be slimmer....but the system doesnt seam like it can get any slimmer honestly! And a 3DS update would have to do more than improve battery to bea reasonable market strategy...so i highly doubt the 3ds update will come any sooner than 2013

So what do you guys think....are there good, convincing reasons NOT to wait to buy 3DS (and bout price drop...they arent dropping price this year, guys haha...get over it)

I decided just to wait. I'll either get it as a birthday present to myself or when RE:Revelations and that new Phoenix Wright game comes out, whatever comes first.

Technically Professor Layton x Ace Attorney, but yes....It's True!

Hence I don't care for buying a 3DS day one. I have a system to play the inevitable bombshell of a good game. ;)

If you get the 3DS early I doubt you'll regret it. True, future models will be superior and for less money, but Nintendo doesn't release bad hardware. Personally, I could see the value in getting a 3DS XL. The 3D effect must be amplified by a larger screen

All Nintendo Handhelds had horrid launch lineups....

GB - Tetris and Super Mario Land

GBA - Super Mario Advance 2

DS - Super Mario 64

3DS - Nintendogs, Pilotwings

The only good side is that the 3DS launch has Dead or Alive and SSFIV. Not to mention Shin Megami Tensei 3DS. :D

I'm going to go ahead and get it. Might as well. If a new one comes out, it probably won't be for a while. No sense waiting. I'd miss out on a lot of great 3DS gaming waiting on its eventual release.

If you're this skeptical, then maybe you should wait. You don't really sound like you want one right now.

1) That's mainly why I'm getting one day 1, despite the fact that I probably won't buy any games for it. Pokemon alone is reason enough for me to want the system, but I know there'll be more games that I'll want.

2) Unless the new iteration warrants another purchase, then I don't see the need to fret over it.

You're right, but I was actually happy with Super Mario 64 since I skipped N64. Street fighter will be great, but I have a feeling it wont last me that long, not a huge fighting game type of guy. I was hoping for one flagship title at least...Ugh.

Who thinks it's a stupid decision to wait? Sure there are those who want to get it the minute it's in store but I really don't think they would think everyone else is stupid not to get it then.

Hey, the DS's launch wasn't too bad. It was the following six or so months that were.

I look at it like this:

Its going to be nigh impossible to find one of these things for the first few months, and thats when some great games are coming out. So even if you buy it day one for stuff that is later on, I say its a smart idea. I preordered mine with this logic. Also, about the redesign, they already kinda hinted at they arent going to do a redesign in the short term future. Of course, theyre probaly lieing, but even if they are you still get a good years use of this thing, and maybe the improvements wont be big enough to warrent a repurchase, unless they add a few more hours to the battery. DS to DS lite was a nigh and day improvement, I cant see teh 3DS lite being the same thing. DS Lite redid the design, battery and pretty much everything other then the inside tech. I would be surprised if 3DS lite wasnt the same basic design that we are used to now. Itll be more itnernal stuff.

well like i said, what the 3ds lacks in its game lineup, nintendo has kind of made up for in at least releasing pokemon black and white the same month....lets be honest, unless u already own a ds, it would be kind of stupid to get 3DS and not pick up pokemon black and white, right? Thats what im doin at least...im getting pokemon white and ssf4

1.ive never EVER struggled to find anything i want at stores regarding stock... i think Australia is good like that, granted i never buy hardware at launch. Also i dont need to spend more money then i have to when i can play pokemon on my DS... 2. I dont really see that happening... u cant exactly make the 3ds any smaller its pretty much a ds lite, they can make it bigger i guess but then people will be hypocrites when they bag the psp2 size... 3. Ill wait till some decent games come, ports are not going to cut it when i have played them before.

well i know where ur coming from tho, i do....half the 3ds lineup is ports...and i honestly think the only one that could REALLY get away with it and still be amazing is a metal gear solid port cus...well....that would just be incredible! As for ocarina of time..i will get it but also, who hasnt already beaten that game at least twice?! Its nice to see in 3d, but nothing to be balling ur eyes for i think.... what i want to see is the next mario 3DS platformer....maybe like Mario Galaxy 3DS, how orgasmic would that be haha

woah were did you get those gen 5 gifs? Anyways on topic, im still unsure if im going to get it at launch. The launch lineup may not be that great but the launch window up to June is fantastic. I can wait till June but there theres the problem of finding the system.

Never buy a system because it may be hard to find, unless you plan to ebay it. Unless you actually like the game that are out now, it just isn't worth it. The possibility of future games being good should not make you buy a console or handheld just as insurance of being able to play said good games. If said games come out, order the system, wait whatever time you need to wait, then get the game. It isn't like you're going to die in the meantime... well, you might, but not likely :P

Some people like the security of knowing they can play the games they want when they hit the shelves. Assuming the 3DS has shortages like the Wii, I'll be glad I bought one come June.

I'm getting it day one because no matter what console or what handheld it is....launch titles aren't ever really that great, especially handhelds

but eventually killer apps WILL come out....so i'd get one eventually, so i might as well just make it day one and get it out of the way while i have the money

I pre-ordered it and probably get it day 1 or a few days before that. I'm ordering over a online retailer that usually ships before launch. The lineup for launch window looks great and I can entertain myself with just playing around a bit, taking fotos in 3D and stuff like that. I don't think we see a price drop soon and I'm the kind of guy who wants new stuff ASAP. I don't care if there's any xl, dsi or any newer version, never bought a DSi ^^

Got mine pre-ordered, even with a so/so game launch, the system comes with preloaded AR games that will keep me entertained for a month or so while new games are released, and i'd have bragging rights.

I'm still waiting for the redesign. I'm not dying to get a 3DS so if it takes a couple years, it doesn't really matter. Plus, by the time I get it, I'll have so many games to choose from :).

I was going to get one but the ngp changed my mind. That with the lackluster games at launch and the poor battery life in 3d mode.

i think nintendo have learnt from the release of the balance board, DSI and wii motion plus. If you start adding new features at a later date they won't be supported well, as it alienates a large portion of owners. I think they have packed the 3ds to what they want it to be, they will probably release a 3ds xl at a later date, but why would most want a big portable? especially when the 3DS screen is already of a decent size. As for battery concerns, unless battery technology improves greatly over the next 2 years, or they make a bigger unit (3DS xl) then things aren't going to improve. All devices today that are high powered lack long battery lifes. The only reason for waiting would be if the launch titles don't interest you at all, or hoping for a price drop. Judging by the wii and ds you will be waiting a long while for a price drop.

I was going to get one but the ngp changed my mind. That with the lackluster games at launch and the poor battery life in 3d mode.Rude_Bwoii
the NGP will be in a similar position regarding both battery and more likely than not launch titles.

The ngp should have games from what I have seen devs say you can port ps3 games in short order.

If there is one thing the NGP does not need, its PS3 ports. Thats exactly the problem that the PSP had. It needs original titles to take advantages of its features.

Not at all. I have decided to wait about a month or two. Just so I can read some reviews. As much as I want the 3DS, the last thing I want is a flunk.

I'm getting kind of convinced to order one... Like you guys say it probably won't be available for months... and i can get 50 euro off if i pre-order and trade in my DS lite (which i won't use anymore anyway).

I know that however I like the idea that I can play the game on my ngp and get home and continue it on my ps3. If the ngp has a hdmi/somponent cable I could just plug up and play on my hdtv on psn. I don't know about you but I like the idea. I have no doubt that with the motion and rear touchpad plus cams that some diffrent content will come but not right away.

I'm not concerned about finding a system post launch. I never experienced this Wii shortage that others talk about.

You can get a 3DS early like that? Seriously?! Cus if that's true I might preorder from their instead! Lol

Well, it's a online retailer from Switzerland and they usually ship a few days before release, probably when they get the delivery ^^

I will wait as long as it takes until the battery life improves drastically. 3.5 (it will probably end up to be less actually) hours is, in my view, inexcusable. Hell, why not just make it one hour? I'll wait until 3DS 2 comes out if I have to, I'll not support such terrible performance.
