With developers getting PSP2 dev kits and Nintendo announcing 3DS for next year, the next gen of portables is upon us. Looking at the technical specs, Nintendo has taken a conservative approach with the hardware and appears to surpass the PSP and about match the PS2 graphics wise but falls short of iphone and other portable solutions. Given Sony's reputation of pushing technology forward, I think we can reasonably expect a PSP2 that blows the iphone and 3DS away technically (graphics and ofc the FLOPS). Even so Nintendo has managed to get a very strong backing for the 3DS and appears to have a great lineup plus it will do 3D.

So will you let games decide? graphics? Assuming PSP2 has more powerful graphics (safe assumption), which system will you get?

Considering the PSP2 looks like nothing right now, just the 3DS.

PSP2 just for Socom Fireteam Bravo series.

I would say its the most popular mulitplayer game on the PSP.

We know nothing about the PSP2 other than rumors. I'll probably have both eventually but I'm getting a 3DS first.

Given Sony's creativity, we can probably expect something similar to PSP maybe with 2 screens or/and some form of 3D. Games will probably include some of GoW, Rachet, MGS, FF (maybe a FF7 remake), a Jak game or something similar from Naughty Dog, etc.. Sony isn't hard to figure out, just look at the PS1/2/3 controllers.

A new video card. These handheld prices are ridiculous. The PSP has gone from $249.99-$169.99 in what, 5-6 years? The DS is even worse as the price goes up with each model. I expect both of these handhelds to be $250 and what I have learned is waiting 5 years doesnt help much.

I'll get the PSP2 launch model (I still love my phat PSP) and then wait for the revision of the 3DS.
In the end, I'll use my PSP2 more due to the multimedia aspect of it.

I find it hard to imagine a PSP2 that I would want to buy along with 3DS or instead of it (unless there's just a million amazing games coming for it, which...yeah) I don't really care which one has better graphics. It will be nice to see what Sony will achieve, but it's something I'm content to appreciate from a distance.

loving the DS + hating the PSP + always giving priority to nintendo over other companies when getting the first system of the new gen + having already played the 3DS + knowing absolutely nothing about the PSP2 = 3DS for me.

3DS, most certainly. If the PSP2 is also solid, I'll pick it up as well. Not at launch though, as I will with the 3DS.

Both. Unless Sony decided to go digital only, in which case only the 3DS. But I don't believe that they will.

the computer monitor you're sitting at isn't exactly the best for your eyes either.

if your reference is purely the 3d effect. optionality is a great tool, and Nintendo packs said option.

How about we see what the PSP2 has to offer and at what pricing before we ask ourselves such a question?

I don't know much about the PSP2 or the games that will be on it, so I can't say the PSP2 right now. I'll be getting the 3DS first obviously. Then wait and see what the PSP2 has to offer next fall.

we don't know enough about the psp2 to really decide imo. We can probably expect graphics just under 360/ps3 and we will probably have dual analogs. BUT, the question is, will it have 3D or a touch screen?? As nintendo pointed out, you can't have both co existing and I doubt sony will copy nintendo's dual screen design to have both.

edit: Touch screen is expected now and it is perfect for handhelds and phones. It is standard tech now and it makes the psp seem more backward than ds also. BUT, it could be like wii vs. ps3 all over again if the psp doesn't go 3D with everybody clamouring for the hip new gimmick and leaving sony in the dust.

I seriously doubt PSP2 will be anywhere near 360/PS3 level. Not unless there is a quantum leap in battery technology.

3DS, unless PSP 2 really shows me some more games I'd want, where 3DS already has like 5 I can't wait for.... And the fact that I played my DS more than my PSP, and bought like 3 games for my PSP where I bought like 30 for my DS.

how about i find out what the psp2 has in store for me and then ill make my decision..but as of now the 3ds games are looking amazing (as noted in other threads i have no interest in the 3d aspect..only the upgraded graphics which means better n64/Gc ports)

I'm pretty sure I'll get the 3DS, maybe not at launch. I might wait for a price drop, or at least a bundle. Considering we know nothing about the PSP2 its hard to say, but I did enjoy the PSP, so I'll have to say both most likely.

Well, I'll definitely be getting the 3DS. As far as the PSP2 I'll have to see it first and the games that are coming.
