Both. Unless Sony decided to go digital only, in which case only the 3DS. But I don't believe that they will.

Cherokee_Jack

If the alternative is UMDs, I would be more interested in the PSP2 as a digital-only system.

Well, let us all hope Sony learned their Go lesson.

Now see my feelings are just the opposite. As bad as the UMD format is, I would still choose it over digital distribution.

Ideally though I would want to see Sony use multi-GB game cards like the 3DS.

The alternative will most likely be some kind of memory card for each game because they won't risk digital distribution again UMD's are too clunky and don't hold enough data. Unless they have a bluray UMD :P

Hopefully that lesson is "Price wisely and don't split userbases" rather than "Don't try anything new ever" or Sony is doomed in the handheld space IMO.

3DS will be a day one buy for me depending on the launch line-up. PSP2, it's too early to tell. For me, the original was mostly unused for the first two years I had it, and then it was only until older games like FF Tactics and Valkyrie Profile were released and PSOne Classic compatibility was allowed that it received any kind of love from me. PSP2 needs to tempt me with quality games to see a buy, but in the end I may get one if only because I buy every console/handheld released eventually.

The lineup from 3DS is insane.3DS please.

Lto_thaG
we havent even seen anything from the PSP2 yet! plus most of the 3ds games are on current gen consoles, why would i want rehashes? imo it seems like the 3ds is going the way of the PSP so far. of course im sure they have some others up their sleeve. the games ive seen "look" impressive but the lineup of games doesnt really impres sme much, aside from kid icarus! i would LOVE to get my hands on that...

3DS for me. I don't care about graphics much in handhelds. Afrerall..compared to modern console or PC games all handheld titles will always look like crap anyway, so why even bother arguing that one game looks a little less crappy than the other? If I buy handheld I will buy it for games. iPhone is mostly filled with browser games-like titles, which I already have on PC, 3DS on the other hand will get great japanese support and like DS deliver unique experiences.

Definitely 3DS. To me, the rumor (and probable reality) that PSP2 has a touch pad (even if it is on the back...) proves to me that Sony is just trying to play catch-up with a certain last-gen handheld that sports an actually useful touch pad... While 3DS is doing something awesome and new. Plus 3DS will also be a multimedia device- it'll take 3D stereoscopic photos, I think videos but not sure on that one, it'll play 3D movies (Avatar, anyone?), and will just generally be f&@king awesome. Also, no. The quality of 3DS graphics are MUCH BETTER than PS2 graphics. Did you see those Resident Evil Revelations screens? It looks almost as good as RE5, with all the same lighting effects and everything. Plus it can handle Mercenaries mode from RE4 and RE5- RE4 was easily the best looking GameCube game, but it had to run at 360p so it could look that good. 3DS handles it at 800x240, AND renders it all twice for the 3D effect (400x240 per eye). If it rendered everything only once with no 3D*, it would probably be able to do RE5 in its sleep. *BTW, does anyone think any devs are going to do this- make a 3DS game that has mandatory 2D but double the polygon counts?

Since the PSP and the NDS worked pretty good together for my taste, I'll probably get both. 3DS on launch, PSP2 depends on lineup, technology and price

Both probably.

Slashkice

This. I'm definitely buying a 3DS it just depends on how much the PSP2 costs and what games will be available for it if it is reasonably priced and the games interest me I will buy it but it might not be very early in its lifetime because I might only afford one handheld for a while.

3DS plz, I mean the titles coming to it is are insane, i'm all hyped up for

resident evil revealation, resident evil mercenaries, kingdom hearts 3DS, metal gear solid 3D and mario kart.

i wanna see what those titles are gonna do to the system once they're out.

once sony shows the handheld console and shows us what it can do then I'll decide, it takes no scientist to know that it's coming but for now we don't know.

Definitely the 3DS, but I will consider the PSP2 as well. I do not have PSP, so if it is BC that will be a good incentive, as I would like to play Peace Walker :).

Buying both day 1. The 3DS's launch line-up doesn't have anything I actually want and I expect the same for the PSP2. Both handhelds will be great after things pick up though going by the DS and PSP though.

PSP2 as it's more likely to get the types of games I enjoy playing, I prefer Sony's UI's, I don't like that the 3DS' screens are incongruous, and I'm not a fan of 3D.

I think we're gonna be seeing threads about:

3DS Ocarina of Time vs PSP2 Final Fantasy 7

I'll probably get them both when they are cheaper and better, handhelds aren't day 1 purchases for me anymore.

It's crazy how 3DS has a new Kid Icarus game, that was the first video game I ever played, like 10 years ago.

3DS hands down. The fact that it has DS backwards compatability and the insane 2010 lineup the DS has, not to mention the stellar launch titles for the 3DS I have no reason to own another handheld.

Both, 3DS for Nintendo 1st party and its 3D capabilities, and PSP2 because of the HD capabilities, dual analog, and possible PS3 integration. They both have something to offer that differentiates one from the other

From a technical perspective, the 3DS offers me something I have yet to see before (autostereoscopic 3D). I am actually a fan of 3D; I spent $200 on a 3D Vision Kit + glasses and never regretted it.

For that reason alone, I'll probably purchase a 3DS. I am not hugely impressed by its software lineup, but I am a pretty big Ace Attorney fan. And I know Shu Takumi will be in Nintendo's camp.

I can't say anything about the PSP2, because it has not been announced and I don't know its features. The rumors about its hardware don't excite me in the slightest. If its software mostly consists of ports/spinoffs of series I can buy on other systems, I don't expect to pick one up...

I might pickup a PSP Phone someday, though, if it's real and gets better third party support than the iPhone does.
