This is going to screw over Sony the most if true because third parties are going to develop for the WiiU/720 duo over the PS4.

The WiiU will have the tablet, MS will have Kinect 2.0... what is Sony going to have as its hook? They can no longer differentiate themselves with power because third parties will not spend more money just to make superior PS4 games. They will develop to lowest and largest common denominator. If Sony copies Nintendo and MS's tablet and camera based strategies they will be seen as cheap knockoffs like the Sixaxis and Move were this gen.

Sony literally has to come up with some kind of idea to differentate themselves. Yes, they have decent franchises in their stable, but none of them have the ability to actually move consoles other than Gran Turismo, and who knows when GT6 will even release. They haven't established that IP that not only sells well out of launch, but continues to hold player counts over ~50k and sell DLC months after.

But noone will buy xbox 720 / WiiU if PS4/PC are a way more powerfull, all gaming will be about PC/PS4 and 720/WiiU will be the Wii of this gen with 3-4 good core games per decade

The 720 will face the fate of the Wii and will be stuck with kinect games, onlya handful of downgraded 3rd party games.

The console game is about optimization and exclusives.

That's it.

Not gimmicks, not move, not kinect.

Nobody's gonna buy a console because it has a tablet, they buy it because they want to play Mario.

If the 720 is gonna feature a crap GPU, most of us aren't gonna be needing it.

We'll get whatever suits us better, hell maybe this could be a boost for PC gaming.

Unless these rumored systems put out some absolutely amazing exclusives, I can't fathom why anyone would purchase either of them over a good gaming PC.

If true (big if, very skeptical), I just find it a baffling move from Microsoft. I don't see why anyone would be attracted to a system that is 20% more powerful than the Wii U (minor and irrelevant improvement), but likely has a duller and less interesting main controller. I suppose it's the exciting opportunity to pay for online or the Kinect support? Or they're just hoping Halo will do the trick. Please.

Next-gen sounds very, very boring so far.

This bodes extremely well for Nintendo if this is true. Being only 20% more powerful means the gap won't be highly noticeable and there won't be much need to upgrade or build new engines. This could save developers a lot of money. It means both Wii U and 720 will be able to share the same games and the difference will be down to what Nintendo and Microsoft bring to the table. It looks like those of us who said next generation will rely on "gimmicks" were right.

This could be the most interesting generation ever. It will push innovation forward like never before. It would be in Sony's best interest not to go all out with power next gen. Nintendo is gearing up to launch. Something is definitely cooking in the house of Redmond. This puts Sony in an interesting position. They need to show their hand by the end of next year or they are going to be left in the dust again.

Sony are releasing later so yes it should be more powerful, in all honesty a Playstation branded console that is ahead of its competition in tech by a large margin with their first party support will imo put them back where they were last gen (although I admit it could go either way, time will tell).

If Sony tries to compete solely on the basis of gimmicks, I expect them to fail and probably fall off the map in a crowded three-race competition. They are not a company known for producing super-popular gimmicks.

That "gimmick" is a direct copy of the Wii remote and people saw right through it. It seems whenever someone tries a different approach they get ridiculed with "proof" that the thing is destined to fail. I might not like 360 but I clap for MS for trying something different than just directly copying Nintendo. It paid off for them. Move may be better than the Wii remote (I don't know for sure) but its still nothing more than an imitator. Surely Sony know if they were to take the casual route also they can't rely on Move? They've pretty much admitted its not moving to their expectations here in Europe.

Just a point worth mentioning, but didnt MS copy Sony's eyetoy with the kinect? I know its far more complex, but the point stands that Sony did it first a gen ago.

Depends on many factors

WiiU must get a Zelda to consider it, or rival multiplatforms on PC

PS4 is yet unknown when will come and what will be like

Most probably i will just move to PC and later get a WiiU, if the 720 rumors turn out true

If not i will get a 720, skip PC and get a WiiU later with zelda

I usually end up with all systems anyway, every gen, the question is when i will buy them and if i can skip PC like i did with xbox and xbox 360

Maybe since one company is going casual w/ Kinect and another hardcore with a tablet, Sony might just keep is simple and just let the PS4 be a bit more powerful system on par or slightly above the others, upgraded online service (it might go paid this time) and a Dualshock controller..thats it. Nothing fancy, nothing gimmicky, just traditional gaming at its finest. That way if peeps don't like Nintendo's tablet nor MS's casual stance on Kinect, the PS4 would be a welcoming home to gamers who just want some great hardcore games to play with just a controller :)

These "gimmicks" are a huge part of the way forward. You should either embrace the change or keep to your PC ;) The casual market is worth big money and not one of the big three is going to ignore it next generation.

So how do you get to lemming fantasy land? See my map tells me to take a left at the bridge of Kinect and head south of the mountain of RROD until I find the path of exclusives, but Ican't find it! I can't find the path of exclusives at all! I looked everywhere but I still can't find it, I'm starting to think that it doesn't even exist...
