4K gaming by the end of 2014

Well I was just going over the Crytek's presentation and in the end they said that by the end of 2014 we will have GPUs with 16TFLOPS. That's too much and it makes me sad that just after 1 year of the release of consoles we will have 8 times more powerful GPUs. Just imagine the possibilities. Anyways, so 4K@60FPS by the end of 2014 confirmed? (I hope the prices of 4K TVs/Monitors go down, I just can't afford $25K TV).

4k monitors/tv's are getting cheap fast

i paid 4k for my 40inch 1080p TV years ago, i can get a 30inch 4k monitor now for 3k

With all 2 people running a 4k tv, this will be a huge hit.

Yes, if you're ready to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars for it, then it's already possible.

Will 4k make games better than 1080P...... of course not. If we're talking the realisation of a believable universe, the further towards photorealism we travel the more repeated textures and animations become apparent. Pixel felchers seem to forget the nuances that create the facade of believability.

Who cares.

The assets in games won't be detailed enough to benefit from the resoution.

4k gaming will be pointless untill PS5 and xbox 2 are released.

From nobody you mean consolites. Poor consolites getting poor hardware, I know it hurts when someone is expecting tri SLI 680's and get 1.8 TFLOPS 7850, I feel for you man. I really do.:(

this reminds me of the whole 720p vs 1080p argument when alot of fanboys didnt see any advantages. On top of jacking up resolution which is a decent advantage in its self those gpu's will be usefull to play demanding games at 60fps ( quite sure the likes of future Metro,Arma,Battlefield,Witcher,Total War and maybe others will take advantage of those gpu's ) as well as play some games with demanding mods ( such as skyrim ) without frame drops.

Even if a game doesnt utilize that gpu 100% it will still be better than a gpu that will be running at 100% all the time in the respect of lower temps and lower power consumption.

Let me guess. You havent actually seen or used a 4k tv in person in real life have you? Nah, you read some jaded so called "tv experts" blog that says it sucks so you think it sucks because some guy on the internet said so. Or you watched a comparrison video online where the trick is, you are watching both in non 4k so you cant actually see the difference. Or you are one of those people who just wants to dislike new stuff so you have made up your mind it sucks without actually knowing anything about it. The proverbiale old man who dislikes anything that wasnt around during his childhood. Or are you a contrarian that automatically wants to dislike something just because its popular?

I saw it at a trade show and it was damned amazing the amount of detail in 4k.

Its 3840 x 2160 pixels and its gorgeous. That makes it twice 1920 by twice 1080 for effectively 4 times as many pixels.

this reminds me of the whole 720p vs 1080p argument when alot of fanboys didnt see any advantages. On top of jacking up resolution which is a decent advantage in its self those gpu's will be usefull to play demanding games at 60fps ( quite sure the likes of future Metro,Arma,Battlefield,Witcher,Total War and maybe others will take advantage of those gpu's ) as well as play some games with demanding mods ( such as skyrim ) without frame drops.

Even if a game doesnt utilize that gpu 100% it will still be better than a gpu that will be running at 100% all the time in the respect of lower temps and lower power consumption.

Exactly, nothing is important to consolites as long as their 'next-gen' doesn't start then they will come and claim ridiculous things and suddenly all those things starts to matter to them  and they fight with eachother over a difference of a pixel.

You can game at 4k on PC right now but good luck getting a monitor or screen that supports it at a consumer price. Also funding a PC that can maintain 4k at a reasonable framerate
