4k Gaming is about to become cheap, Greatness awaits on PC

the dark knight imax? with my personal projector that can light the side of a building?

4K and Bluray are all the future. Although,leaps are smaller.But we cant ignore these 2,The ones above them are just too expensive.

The dell and Lenovo 4k monitors are not meant for gaming. They are terrible gaming monitors. They are 30hz at 4k. Asus 4k is better since its at 60hz. Unfortunately they are all TN panel and IPS.

More and more movie companies are using the newest 4k cameras when making movies now, that is important. A movie mastered in 4k looks amazing even on my old 1080p Sony TV.

When it comes to games however, it's not important yet. The graphics still have a long way to go in games before 4k is important.

That's really cheap, considering 1440p was going around that price a couple years ago.

its no where near "cheap" your going to need a powerful gpu behind that tiny 700$ monitor. your looking at like what 1100 bucks with a r90?

Under no circumstances could you call $700 or $800 for a monitor "cheap". Plus, you still have to a have a significantly beefier setup than most PC gamers currently have or need to get decent frame-rates at 4k resolutions while using the same graphical settings you're used to.

That being said, I'm excited about the possibility of one day gaming at such a resolution, when the prices drop to more reasonable levels. Personally, I haven't even upgraded to 1440p or 1600p, so it's going to be a while before I make the jump to 4k.

Asus just announced a 4k monitor for $800 to counter Dell's $1000 4k monitor, Dell responded just hours later & confirmed it was actually only $700, competition is so good is it not?

I remember people saying 4k monitors won't be cheap until like 2016-17, by this rate, a decent 4k monitor will be $300 by the end of 2014, just in time for the next gen GPU's from AMD & Nvidia (Pirate islands & Maxwell) so 4k gaming will be affordable by the end of this year, no need for Crossfire/Sli $500 GPU's & a $3000 4k monitor

Now for the rest of this generation we are going to have to deal with console gamers saying there is no difference between 1080p & 4k, then when PS5 & the next Xbox gets 4k gaming in 2024, they will coincidentally notice how much better 4k gaming is & start saying "next gen is finally here"

I want a 20 or 22 inch screen with that resolution. At the distance that my eyes are at from my current 20" 1680x1050 screen, I can still see the pixels. What I really want is the same pixel density that you can get in a Ipod with Retina display. Something over 300 PPI.

I think the (distant) future is going to be pixel-less displays. Probably some variation of OLED display or similar technology.

There's a lot more to a monitor than resolution. In terms of picture priority, it's commonly regarded to be behind color accuracy, contrast, black depth, refresh rate (many would argue), etc. Want the sharpest image? Sure, 4k will be it. Will it have the great color, contrast, black depth, viewing angel, etc. compared to existing monitors in that price range? Probably not. We'll see, but at those prices I'm guessing there have been sacrifices made.
