People deluding themselves thinking xbox X can deliver 4k graphics are wrong. If you buy an xbox x dont do it because its "4k". Its a minor graphics update only. Do it because you want slightly better looking games only. Not for any other reason.

Now onto PC gaming. JUST the cpu/gpu are 1200 usd (ROFL?), and even then, u only get a mixed 45-60 FPS on ultra 4k settings. Yes. 800 for 1080 Ti and 400 for 8700k. Lets not even start about the monitor (another 600) and other components needed to build a PC. I have NO idea why people say PC gaming is cheap. It is NOT. Its also BLAND. Mouse and keyboard suck compared to controller.

I see consoles going all in on 4K next gen, even if that means games have to run at 30 FPS.

If history taught us anything it's that fancy graphics >>>>>>>>>>>>>> playable framerate any day.

for 4k hdr tv owners the one x is a good machine and 4k hdr games on xbox one x look really good.

PC can be very expensive, especially when you don't know what you're doing. The cheapest 8700K is $379.99. Why no go for a Ryzen 5 1600X for $189.99 or a 1600 for $169.99 if you have a strict budget? You can't tell the difference between those CPUs at 4K anyway. Same core and thread counts, $200 price difference.

C'mon man get over this shit already, you know full well there are native 4K games on the X. Why don't you provide a list of games that aren't native 4K so you can feel good about yourself, because we all know where this shit is going.

WOW, I was waiting for a deal on Amazon for a 8700K, but this is a nicely deal right there. Thanks for posting this sweet deal. 8700K will pair nicely on my new GTX 1080Ti :)

Edit: On topic. Gaming in 4K through console isn't gonna cut it. It's a cheap move on console standards and even if you spend over $1,500 on PC, 4K is troublesome unless you wanna go SLI which is also ridiculous expensive. This is why gaming in 144op/60fps is still the best experience on PC and 1440p should have been on console's goal.

why does 4K always come with ultra settings? What's wrong with running the game on High at 4K while still getting 60fps? Most games don't need ultra settings to look good. In fact, most don't look that much better at ultra. At least not enough to justify the performance hit. In which case you don't need a 1080Ti. A 1070 would do just fine. Heck even a 1060 or rx 580 would do the trick with the right settings.

I can give you a list of all PC games released this gen that can be played at 4K. Here they are:

All of them...

I can play native 4k titles in 60 frames on ultra. Sometimes I'll use the keyboard and mouse and other times I'll hook up my Xbox Elite controller. Yay for choices! PC gaming can get expensive but it all depends on what you're trying to shoot for. Some people are perfectly fine with 1080p and 60 frames. Other people want 1440p and 144 frames. While others like to go for 4k and 60 frames. With PC gaming you have choices...

On console it's just buy what games that console offers that interest you the most.

Who the hell told you this?

GPU have always been an option whenever you are ready to upgrade, never after there 2/3 years run, it depends on your needs. Everyone has there needs which is the beauty of PC, you have options when you are ready to upgrade. There are PC gamers that I know are still rocking there GTX 760 & 970 only just to play games and not get carried away with the graphic settings.

15 years is bullshit. The x1x is clearly at the cusp, and game devs cater to the lowest common denominator so if the next system is in the general ballpark powerwise they'll be the ones to make it happen. I have every confidence the next ones will be native 4k machines - assuming there are next ones. You can game in 4k on pc now for a reasonable price

And yet I’m already gaming in 4K. For me 4K is a bit overrated though. I tend to prefer gaming in 1440p with Ultra settings and 60fps and above. 4K and mixed settings isn’t optimal for me especially when you’re not guaranteed locked 60fps all the time.

I agree people getting an XboneX or PS4 Pro for the specific purpose of gaming in Native 4K are wasting their time since both consoles aren’t really capable of giving Native 4K resolution with any kind of consistency. If you’re getting them for improved image quality over the base consoles however I think they are good value for money.

'assuming there are next ones' and yes I would say that is a realistic question at this point in the game. there might not be

I never said there weren't. I'm just saying we shouldn't just act like the Xbox One X is a native 4K machine. Saying the X is a native 4K machine is like calling the original Xbox One a 1080p machine. While there are games that hit that resolution, the majority of titles fall short. And lets list the native 4K games at least. I'm sure I'm missing some so feel free to add.

Here, I'll start. The list only includes games that are currently available

Native 4K

Forza 7
Gears of War 4 (except multiplayer)
Madden 18
NHL 18
NBA 2K18
FIFA 18
Super Lucky's Tale
PUBG
Rise of the Tomb Raider (with other settings that drop resolution and improve graphical quality)
Destiny 2
Killer Instinct
Hitman (with other settings that drop resolution and improve graphical quality)
Halo Wars 2
Shadow of War (with other settings that drop resolution and improve graphical quality)

NOT Native 4K

COD: WWII
AC: Origins
Ghost Recon Wildlands
Injustice 2
Wolfenstein 2
Fallout 4
Titanfall 2
Watch Dogs 2
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Project Cars 2
Homefront the Revolution
Final Fantasy 15
Diablo 3
Quantum Break
Halo 5
F1 2017
COD: Infinite Warfare
Fortnite
Ark: Survival Evolved

The Witcher 3 just got a X patch, and while all initial analysis says it uses a dynamic resolution, for consistency sake I will wait for Digital Foundry.

I dont know why people keep up with this idea. My 980ti can push 4k at 30fps and i built that system for under 500.

A better argument or point people should be making is that 4k is silly to push as the focus of any system. But i get it, consoles are so bland and MS and Sony have vested interests in pushing TVs as well.

I think that's what most people are buying them for... most people aren't silly enough to think that buying these consoles means that every game you play will be native 4k.

They are both premium versions of each console, that caters to people like me, who wanted a more premium console experience. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm pointing out your obsession with the X1X and 4K and this topic wasn't even specifically about the X1X. Mention 4K and anything and you come in talking about how MS lied and lems are delusional. blah blah blah. It seems you have a 1 track mind that won't get over it. The X1X is not a "true" 4K machine....there hopefully you can move past it now

I sold a PS4 Pro, PSVR and a bunch of PS4 games. I used that cash to build a 2nd PC. I wanted to build a console like PC but couldn't really justify spending "new money" on a 2nd PC. I don't really care for Sony or the PS brand, PSVR was exciting at first but the tracking issues were never fixed, and I don't have as much time to play video games. So I consolidated a little bit. Nintendo, Xbox and PC for me. Nintendo gets the most attention in the console space, PC gets the multiplats and Xbox gets the multiplayer shooters and sports games.

Where do you get that monitor is $600? And you don't need a 8700k. Your view is totally skewed. I have seen decent 4K monitors for $250.

Also you are very dumb when it comes to this. No one states the initial start up is cheap. It is cheaper in the long run. My games are about 50% off compared to consoles and I do not pay for things such as PS+ and Xbox Live. Also I use my controller on most of my games that I play. Please stop spreading stupid lies.

I still think we might have a hard time next gen on consoles. We will upgrade our textures next gen as well so it will struggle. A 1080 Ti is needed now if you want to feel somewhat comfortable in 4K. Are the next consoles even going to compete with a 1080 Ti or better or worse? I don't know but if they can't compete with a 1080 Ti then we will have a rough patch next gen as well with 4K.

I think that's what most people are buying them for... most people aren't silly enough to think that buying these consoles means that every game you play will be native 4k.

They are both premium versions of each console, that caters to people like me, who wanted a more premium console experience. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't know about this. I have discussed the One X will people that I have ran across and a lot of them have told me that the X is a 4K console that will play its games in 4K now. I have to at least correct that it can play some games and 4K but not all. I believe MS really pushed the 4K "no compromise" system to the public and they believed them. However, I think MS did an okay job on the console (except under R&D time they didn't have an acceptable CPU that was within price at the time), I just wish MS would give the xbox division the money to go out there and invest in more exclusives. That would really drive the console.

15 years? LOL

PS5 is coming in 2020. 4K/30FPS will be standard.

PS4 Pro and X1X already have a hand full of games that are 4K. Next gen for sure will have 4K as standard.

4k Gaming is not 15 years away.

Maybe if you're considering AMD's snail pace of a race against Nvidia.

What holds the consoles back this generation is that horrible CPU architecture. Ryzen should give a huge a boost and put that close to high end laptops you see today.

Vega can sort of do 4k/60fps atm if you feed it the power of 2 1080ti's, still not quite as fast as one 1080ti tho

That's a wide underestimate. I can see most games being at least 8K / 60 FPS, probably closer to 120 FPS in 15 years if we actually do have consoles still. We're somewhat close to getting cards that can hit 4K 60 FPS on everything on ultra settings, so long as the game is not an unoptimized mess.

VR on the same hardware on the other hand is likely to be at 16k (retinal resolution) per eye 120 FPS or higher in 15 years since VR will soon be able to render higher resolutions much easier than traditional displays.

According to Phil Spencer, that's happening.

The industry is leaning towards dynamic resolution and adaptive sync technologies... Locked frame rates and resolutions will be probably be a thing of the past in a generation or two.

PC gaming will always be superior in performance due to there being no power and price restraints. 4K at 60+ is already possible since PC is not locked to one GPU, people do have SLI GTX 1080's and Ti's... Might be a small amount of people but they exist and of course its expensive. As for the coming console generation the gap between its rumoured launch of 2020 and the X1X/Pro launch is not enough time to give a substantial boost in performance, the coming generation will be 4K/30FPS at best.
