So HL3 STILL is in the dark, and yet people are clamoring for it and praying for info all the time. With the recent HL2 playing going on to get Valve to make HL3, I thought I'd ask what fellow Half-Life fans (and possible non fans) would want in a sequel? What are the 5 most wanted things they'd want in one of the most anticipated games of all time? Me, personally I'd want:

1. More emphasis on exploration: Half-Life 1 was considerably more open, and I think 2's linearity set the series back a bit. If they could take a cue from Bioshock and give us a ton to explore and look around in while still having a somewhat linear path full of scripted sequences and story events we're all used to in the Half-Life games, that would be great.

2. No loading times: This can be done, right? Uncharted 2 could be played from start to finish without a load screen, even when dying. I think loading really took me away from the immersion factor of HL2, so once HL3 comes around I would prefer they do one big load when you start it up, or just in between major acts or something.

3. HIGHLY improved engine: Valve is known for being pretty cutting edge when it comes to the HL series, with both games being at the tip in technology when they came out. For HL3, I want Valve to take Source, and give it some steroids and a workout. Give me something that can put a GTX 580 and the next round of consoles to their limit. Give me an engine with smart AI, beautiful effects, an AI director to shake things up (which Episode 2 kind of had), and just more awesomeness from Source now that engines like Frostbite and Cryengine are leading the pack.

4. Lots of new mechanics and content: Even though it will likely take place right after Episode 2, I don't want recycled weapons from HL2. Maybe a few, but I want big changes in enemies, enemy types, gear, the HEV suit, weapons, and the core gameplay. Give me a big change up to keep the game fresh.

5. Intensify the combat: This is one thing HL1 did right that HL2 really didn't. I want that sense of survivalism back, with smart enemies that flank and the need to be careful. RAGE probably has my favorite combat right now, and I want Valve to take a big cue from that, with an abundance of gear, smart enemies, and visceral feedback in the recoil and animations of enemies. Make me feel like I'm on the edge of death instead of me just floating through enemies with a pulse rifle on hard.

Those are my picks, but there are a lot more stuff I'd love. This is what I've narrowed my most wanted down to.

I really don't know why people are doing that whole HL2 thing. It's not like Valve thinks nobody wants HL3. It'll come when it comes, people just have to stop being so damn impatient. As for what I want, better guns, and more things to be able to be used with the gravity gun.

HL1 wasn't open at all, it was as confined as shooters come. Anyway, I'd like much harder edged combat, and more actual survival then god-grav-complex. So I guess I'm looking for something a bit more like HL1. Also HL3 is most likely in development, and I'd be willing to bet a new engine - as Source is going to be a free standalone build in due time, quite like the UDK.

I didn't like the boat section, but I did enjoy the car section since it had a buttload of exploration and added an extra bif of freedom to combat or driving. Plus it was fun to break the game with a vehicle by ramming through a gate for a puzzle I was supposed to spend 20 minutes solving.

This mostly,only I would still like some vehicle sections,only make them shorter and more intense,don't just let them be a filler to have a longer campaing.

Instead,I would replace the last one with new graphics engine that would be made and optimized primarily for more modern PC hardware,like HL2 had back in the day,and perhaps add a fully new pshyics engine that would once again push the physics in games forward...

The rest I fully agree with,also I hope they won't push some too complex and cumbersome story into the series,after all,HL franchise has a great story relayed to the player in different ways than most games where he must search for bits and pieces himself to get the full picture,and that I like a lot.And keep Gordon silent,he's simply that kind of a protagonist,and it fits well...

Cooler guns. Why didn't Half Life 2 have any of the really cool guns you get about halfway through Half Life?

Better ai. Because the ai in Half Life 2 was **** awful.

Don't make me sit through boring story parts that I don't care about. Half Life was all about being alone and figuring it out, Half Life 2 you're around people all the time and the stupid cutscenes were annoying.

1. More info about the G-Man

2. More guns. The gravity gun has been named the best weapon in game.

3. New engine, New tech, better graphics and models

4. More vehicles.. maybe like a chopper or tank to help the resistance fight back.

5. Gordon and Alyx should ought to hook up :cool:. Thus ending half life saga.

They just want some information. Any information. It's been nearly 5 years since Episode 2's quasi-cliffhanger ending, and next to nothing has been mentioned about the next release. I think this is because people are expecting another Episode, and the whole point of the episodes in the first place was to shorten development time.

1 - 30 hour SP campaign

2 - Tight penetrative gunplay/mechanics e.g. Stalker

3 - More open world exploration

4 - More in game music

5 - An inventory and a larger variety of weapons/objects etc - slightly sandbox like perhaps in the format of well...Stalker...

Ultimately though I just want to play what Valve create, the game could not include any of the above and I'll still absolutely love it.

I loved HL2's vehicle sections. The sequence when you cruise around on the buggy and hop off from time to time to kill some Combine is one of my favorite parts of the game.

The buggy was decent enough but that whole boat section made me want to quit the game.

Glad I didn't.

1) Good gun mechanics this time.

- Make the guns fun to shoot.

- Make guns have real recoil.

- Give guns a better, more loud sound. They need more oomph.

2) Have good AI this time.

- I don't just want to be shot at, I want to be outsmarted.

- Flanking. Don't follow me in a door, throw grenades in that door instead.

3) A new graphics engine.

- Sorry, Source was outdated as soon as UE3 came out.

- We need an engine ready for the next gen of consoles.

4) Larger, more open levels.

- That last bit in Episode 2 with the Striders rocked.

- Episode 1 did not.

- Less corridors and more open gives the player the illusion the game has more freedom than it does.

5) A more clear story.

- Throughout Half Life 2 (and even sections of HL1), I had no idea why I was there.

- Once again, Episode 2 was a big improvement in this area.

1. Give it the modern treatment with some sort of achievement system, that's always nice.

2. Update the physics engine.

3. New weapons, keep the gravity gun.

4. Maybe a cameo of the portal gun?

5. Good variation in enemies and environments.

6. A good mix between action driving sequences, and scenic (town to town) driving sequences.

I'll say that I've been intrigued by the unclear story. But I agree, HL3 has to answer a lot of questions, fill in some plot holes.

Source was outdated before it's release by Doom3, it's only benefit over tech4 was physics, and that was third party (havok).

1. I want the shooting mechanics to remain the same.

2. I want the story to be just as good as the others.

3. I want better graphics (dont' have to be much better).

4. I want to learn more about the Borealis.

5. I want it to either conclude the HL2 story arc or not have a huge cliff hanger.

Hardly lazy. Source still looks good on L4D and portal 2. It means modders won't move onto a new engine and give up support for old games. A new engine for Hl3 is certain in my eyes, but calling them lazy despite the support for their current engine that still does it better than most is a lazy statement.
