It's too much for impulse buys.  Perfectly fine for games that you want/never played/are actually freaking good.

It's still low enought for an impluse buy for some people.

You forgot about Mystical Ninja too.

Imo, the VC can be great value if you know which games to get.

Personally I think Nintendo should have bundled a VC controller with the system. If they had of done that I would have bought far more titles on impulse. The knowledge that I actually have to go out to a shop and buy a controller in order to play them has meant I have only bought NES games so far.

This is exactly how I feel.  I feel the games are an alright price for the ones I want, but I'm not going to keep shelling out $5, $6, $8, and $10 bucks for games I am curious about.

Bottom line is Nintendo would actually get MORE of my money if the prices were a bit lower.  It's all about perception.

Wrong. If Nintendo lowers the prices, they wouldn't make more money, because the prices would be lower. The current prices and demand are at an equilibrium.

I honestly don't understand why anyone buys these VC games. The games have no improvements so it's basically the same game from 20 years ago released for more milking.

For me, it's one reason: I don't have to keep my NES/SNES/Genesis/TG-16 consoles hooked up. I'm actually re-buying stuff I bought 10-15-20 years ago so I can keep my classic systems & carts safely stored.

I'd love to see some improvements made to the games, at least pro-scan support if not the Xbox Live Arcade style remakes...but overall I feel it's good value to shop on Virtual Console.

I agree, I think they're priced just right.  Not everyone had these systems, and no matter what you say, they can be hard to find.

NYCgamer47

Not necessarily.

Assume $4 profit per game. At that cost, someons would only purchase 1-2 really, really good games he's been missing since childhood on the NES. That's $8 profit for ninty.

Now, assume $2 profit. At that pricepoint, That person might consider acceptable to purchase games he remembers as being cool or nice... and the list of these games would be considerably bigger. If he purchases over four games, Ninty made a profit, even more if they set those 1-2 games that were really, really good at a higher pricepoint (which has been done on VC).

In other words, it all depends what the elastisity of the demand is.

Yep. I tend, however, not to assume other people know about economics or other non-common topics, so I rarely use specific names or jargon: I run the risk of confusing others, like I would be confused if someone starts talking about stuff I don't know.

Everyone knows there are other ways to play these games. It's nothing like Live where they add Hd resolutions, online play and many improvements. I wouldn't pay for any of these VC games even if they were $1.00

bundling another controller would increase the price of the Wii and many people might not even care about the VC.

More than enough for games that I want. They need to lower the prices of the crap. Or IMO just remove them all together.

Not only that but it would have made it easier on devs to make games that don't cator to the Wiimote. For instance I can't ever see Fighters working on the Wii unless you use the classic controller.

Seriously.  We should be able to vote the games that are crap straight off the VC.  They should give us an ignore button so we don't have to see the games we definitely will never ever buy.

seen MK: armageddon?, they said it was more intense while playing with the Wii controls because it's faster to do combos and super moves with gestures.

You could use you GCN controllers then on other websites there are things you plug into the GCN port so that you can plug in your NES or SNES controller into that controller port.

That is the biggest problem with the Wii. That motion sensing junk does not work well with all games so why couldn't they make it optional. No you have to wiggle your hands around for every single game.

If there ever was a genre that the Wiimote can't handle its fighters. Can you imagine playing Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, Doa, Tekken or VF on a Wiimote? I can't.

well, those games were built around buttom based combos and such, if they built it ground up for Wii than that would be a different story.

It's just a bit too much what Nintendo is asking us to pay.

It should be:

$1/£1 for NES/MS etc

$3/£3 for SNES/Megadrive/Turbografx etc

$5/£5 for N64/Neo Geo etc

Or something like that...

I'm old enough to remeber buying the VC games for $50 and $60 so $5 or $8 is not too much for me! I hadn't played games like Street Fighter 2, Mario World, Mario 64, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, or Contra in years!!! Totally worth it.

It's not "Wiggling like a moron" Just because you care how look in front of a television either just sitting there mashing buttons or wiggling around you will look strange doing it either way. It's just personal preference and doesn't make it a bad thing.

The point of the Wiimote is to give us new gameplay experiences and change the way we play. Fighters on the Wiimote wouldn't change the way we play it would infact change the game entirely.

The price is definitely fine.   It's a small amount of money, and some of the games are easily worth it.   I'm thoroughly enjoying Star Fox 64. :D   Though I don't see why they bothered releasing Pac-Man for the VC.   I mean...who would pay for a copy of Pac-Man?   Go to google and type in pacman, you can play it for free that easily.

Well they did say that Armageddon became a faster paced fighter with the Wii controls but that's a good thing. The game didn't completely change.

I think it could be good with a Last Blade, Samurai Shodown and Soul Calibur since they are weapon based fighters.

The difference is Live has new content, HD resolutions, online play etc. Not the same 20 year old game released 20 years ago  for milking. Did Street Fighter come out for VC? Does it include online play, HD resolutions or even a leader board?

It's just a bit too much what Nintendo is asking us to pay.

It should be:

$1/£1 for NES/MS etc

$3/£3 for SNES/Megadrive/Turbografx etc

$5/£5 for N64/Neo Geo etc

Or something like that...

they have to make a profit on it and at the same time pay off some publishers as well.

They still would.

Remember these games are all old games that have already made their profits etc. Now it is just old code that has a tiny bit of work done on it to work on Wii. Every single sale will be making profit I have not doubt, even at the prices I suggest...

That's not how it works.

They don't think:  Oh, we made a profit 10 years ago, let's give it away now.

They think:  Well, it costs this much to emulate it, and we have to give this much to this publisher, and we'd like to make this much ourselves.

 that you would even bring up the fact that these games were already sold once.

I should send a letter to SE and ask them for all their games.  And EA, they should definitely be giving me some free games.  Gears of War is free now, right?  They made back their money I reckon.

it doesn't matter if they were already sold before, nintendo wants to make money off this anyway and they do have to do some work to emulate them and have publishers agree to deals about the profit and stuff.

$5 is not too much, but $10 is.... I think it should be $3 NES, $4 SNES, $5 N64. Its not like its hard for them to rerelease these games or that they are new games or anything .....

Since it's the same exact game it should be no more than 50 cents.

Well I still have my NES with 40+ games. The only ones I would have got is SNES and N64, but they are way too much money. Oh well, I still dont even have a Wii, maybe they will lower the price by the time I get one (doubt it)
