5 Words Misused in System Wars

Hello.

Many fanboys/haters/crazy people try to sound convincing and intellegent with their posts, inorder to win over some users to prove the opposing poster wrong. However, what drives me insane, is how these people use WORDS WRONG! Seriously! Whatever, here are the words/ideas that I see gets used wrong the most.

1) LOGIC: Logic, Logic, Logic. Your logic is flawed, you lack logic, that post was illogical, etc. When people use this word out of context, I cringe, I want to smash my keyboard against my face, and stab the keys into my eyes.

Lo-gic -

1.the science that investigates the principles governing correct or reliable inference. 2.a particular method of reasoning or argumentation: We were unable to follow his logic. 3.the system or principles of reasoning applicable to any branch of knowledge or study. 4.reason or sound judgment, as in utterances or actions: There wasn't much logic in her move. 5.convincing forcefulness; inexorable truth or persuasiveness: the irresistible logic of the facts.

READ THIS. UNDERSTAND. If the post of a user is understandable, and you can understand where this person is coming from, then it's logic. YOU JUST CANT SAY "ur no logical lol".

2) /THREAD: A thread doesn't have to end just because you say so, if you don't like where things are going, then leave. That just means that you can't defend your own argument, or you must stink at debate. Or, of course, it can be used in just friendly or harmless talk, and that's OK. But now when your hopeless in a debate.

3) U FAIL LOL: No one fails, no one loses, it's their opinion on the subject. You just can't blatantly say, "u failz". At least give a reason, and a good one at that.

4) OWNED: I have seen people say owned for things that were not owned worthy. Many, many times. This is just a timing thing, and if someone says something coherent, and (sigh) LOGICAL, u don't say "owned, ur such a N00B, ur logic is flawed, u fail, /thread. People just say owned to make them feel like they did something good, and/or funny, when in the end, all they did was make a fool out of themselves.

5) Kiddy: Many people call systems, games kiddy, just so people think it's too babyish for one person so he/she will think that the game sucks just because it's for kids, and not REAL HARDCORE fat 256 pound geeks. Now, this word may not be used incorrectly, but it's used when it's not supposed to be used, and in short, shouldn't be used at all.

Yup, I'd agree with pretty much all of those.

One thing I think is overused (whichis sort of a form of misuse... maybe...)is when people do that damn "bu bu TEH CELL!!11!!" or something similar. It's just utterly pointless and annoying.

I would like to take this time to tell people one of the things I hate most.

That's when somebody says something about a game, and the guy replies "I could care less".

Stop saying that. If you could care less, you would be! The correct term is you couldn't care less!

And I can say someone fails all I want, because if they are trying to prove an invalid point, and I show them the fallacy in their logic, then they failed at their goal.

Just to inform the stupid, that's all. And if people are saying that they fail, when the person is presenting a vaild argument, then it just starts more stupid arguments.

Sadly, it is.

I would say the most misproperly used term on SW is OVERRATED. And here's why.

You get this blockbuster game that comes out, the one with all the hot buzz. And it scores an average of say 92%, getting lots of 9's, and some 10's and 8's which gives you it's 92% average. Basically what would be regarded as a highly praised and successful game. So the gamers of a competing platform see this, they just can't stand seeing success on the competition, the boards are flooded with the threads of how "overrated" this game is.

So why is that flawed? Other than the obvious, they are fanboys motive, you just have to look at the meaning of the word, which is "to rate above its actual merits". But how is the games worth, its merits, its "rating", determined to begin with? By the MAJORITY OF REVIEWS, which reflects a consensus of how this game is measured. Since the majority of reviews gave the game a high score, it can't be considered overrated, as its rating is determined by the sum of all these scores. It's labeling "great" or terrible" by consensus.

The only proper way to apply overrated is if a majority of reviews say 7's, and just 1 or 2 give it a 9+, those few have overrated what the majority said is an average game.

And just to be clear, this isn't to say we can't all have our opinion or that everybody has to like the game. If someone doesn't, they should just say, "I don't like it" or "it's not my bag", but they can't say it's "overrated". The difference being, the former reflects just their own opinion, the latter is them challenging the opinion of everybody else who has the consensus that the game is great.

I disagree with all of it.

1. I can make an understandable argument that just isn't logical. In this context, when someone says "that isn't logical", what they mean is....the conclusion you've drawn from the evidence presented is not satisfactory. In other words, it's poor logic.

2. /thread of course does not mean the thread should actually be locked and ended. It means, "this information I've presented proves all cases of your argument untrue". It just takes less time to write.

3. You can fail at everything. They are most definitely winners and most definitely losers in every debate.

4. You can of course be owned. If you're proven incorrect to the degree that it's actually funny...you're owned.

5. Being that kiddy is an actual word, I'm not sure how we can disprove this one or say it is used incorrectly.

Fact is one you should add.

But Kiddy is one you should take down. The people trying to argue against that are justifying playing with action men at an older age. We aren't saying its not possible for you to do so, but it isn't mature now is it (and try to prove your point by making adult content sound imature is very sad, the reason you think gta is kiddy is because "kiddies" desire things that older people are able to have generally, booze, cigerettes etc. but that doesn't make them kiddy).

The most mis-used word in SW is by far casual. Casual refers to the amount of time you spend gaming. I consider my self casual because I rarely spend more than 5-7 hours gaming a week, but my favourite games are Deus Ex, Bioshock and Baldur's Gate 2. What most people mean when they say casual is non-gamer, which is completely different.

Here are a series of words that you are forgetting..

Seriously, these threads have been done to death and just because you have a logical/deep opinion behind what your saying doesn't mean your correct here on System Wars. So, I deem this thread a failure because it does not meet System Wars bi-laws and therefore is to meaningful to mean squat here and I consider you owned.

Also, "You fail" & "Owned" are one in the same. The definition of ownage here on System Wars is when a person or persons make false statements or misconceptions about [Topic]/[Person]/[Thing] and then being proven wrong thus ownage ensues.

Also Also, You cant misconstrue what a "hardcore" is by calling them 253lb fat geeks and then complain about the misuse or misinterpretation of what "kiddy" is. You fail once again good sir.

These types of threads conflict with the very essence of System Wars, it questions the driving force behind all things stupidity. If it wasn't for System Wars we all would feel less of ourselves because the threads here are so damn thin and illcontructed that it makes most of us look like geniuses.

I agree with those, except the owned part. Ppl actually get owned here when proven wrong.

1. OVERRATED:Just because a game is good and is on the opposite console, it does not in fact mean that it is "overrated".

2. OWNED:

CONTEXT: "you hyped that game AAA and it only got AA, OWNED!" "omg, that guy just killed you with his grenade, OWNED!" "dude, I OWNED you on that last level", said Johnny.

It is in fact impossible to "own" someone, seeing as it is illegal to hold people as slaves.

3. KTHXBAI

definition: none/unknown

"kthxbai" is actually not a word at all, therefore it is invalid as a use in a sentence.

"kthxbai" is not actually found in the dictionary so it is invalid as a use at the end of a sentence. Many scientists have tried to decipher this word, coming up with nothing.

4. Mudkipz

context: "do yu liek mudkipz" "I heard Timmy lieks mudkipz"

definition: WTF

hmm, I actually don't know wtf this is, so let's move on

5. Lemming/Cow/Manticore/Hermit

Lemming: a small rodent, generally having a small brain, feasts on grain and bits of string.

Cow: A common type of livestock, generally residing in North America, feasts on grasses and flowers.

Manticore: A mythical creature, consisting of a mixture of a lion, dragon, and a bird.

Hermit: Deriving from the animal known as the "hermit crab". The hermit crab resides in a small shell and lives in its natural habitat on the beach/in the ocean.

Commonly used as names on gaming forums generally describing owners of different gaming consoles, most usually dumb and possessing small brains.

System War bi-laws? What is this a government? System Wars has it's rules, but really, almost everyone doesn't obey them. And why would we not want to have conversations that made sense? Do you want people coming on and saying empty insults that just make everything worse? People can use those words and phrases, but I was just complaining that people use them in the wrong way.

"You fail" and "owned" COULD mean the same thing, but in many situations, it doesn't.

The "hardcore" statement was only to mock people that think kiddy games are only for the true gamers. I do not think hardcores are fat geeks. But hey, who knows?

I'm just trying to get people to think about what System Wars is now, how it's been reduced to complete moronc status. Most threads are pointless, and are just empty insults on one thing to another. Some people actually create threads that are interesting and bring up good arguments. That what we need on System Wars. We can still use these phrases, but not in a demeaning and stupifying way.
