This is such a HUGE fail. Paying for "free" games you wont even own? (cancel your subscription and you lose the games) Paying for AUTO PATCH UPDATES... SERIOUSLY.. Something Xbox LIVE does for ALL users. Paying for DEMOS (well Cows already did this for GT5:P) Fail all round.93soccer
LOL all the cows seem to be ignoring these :P

Or you could not pay for it and play online like usual. BOOM! Mind blown!

I am paying attention to this and this is what I am currently watching seriously if it really turns out to be a bust then The PS3 is no more worser or better then M$, They are gonna hold demos from me because I didn't pay a sub and if this is the case then xbox 360 is the way to go considering the pay features are better and the interface is alot more interactive. Jack better think about this carefully because they could potentially lose ps3 owners like myself. You herd it from my mouth folks.

I'm just happy I can choose not to pay for this service and still play my games online. ;)kuraimen
yes. sony isn't holding anything back. they're just adding stuff. unlike xbox which chose to hold back online play just to squeeze the wallets of their consumers

With Live, can you even play online the games you paid for when you cancel your subsripction? Atleast, you'll to play your games free online and get a free game with subscription.

Its optional...

and so is xbox live gold

Except regular (free) PSN still allows you to play every game online for free whereas you have to get XBL gold to do that on 360.

Yah but psn still isn't standardized online play through psn, live is made entirely by M$ and dev's don't really have to build any online protocals, everything is handled through the live service, thats why M$ charges for it, they developed it and maintain its features, something simple like voice chat in game with team mates is done through live. This is called quality control, more games will have these standardized features and they'll all be of equal quality. The short time i had ps3 it was a very very mixed bag online mostly and definitly wasn't as good of an experience as xbox.

I can still play my games online for FREE and that is all that matters to me. I don't get why everyones saying this is an epic fail, even without paying we can still play online for free, something anyone with a xbox can't do.

I think the 360 fanboys are just in full damage control mode right now after the terrible MS conference. It'll pass over in a few days.

as long as it's still free to play games online. it's fine.

a big lol @ 360 which force players to pay $50 an year to unlock online play feature.

lol do you get better connection on 360? no, you still get crap connection from p2p games like mw2 or sf4.

what a rip off! and 360 users have no choice, cuz no online play for you if you dont pay. what a smart move from MS

This pretty much sums it up. You want to spill the cash for some extra stuff? Go ahead. You want your PSN the EXACT SAME WAY it is right now? Don't pay for it.

Simple.

Its not like we're forced to pay 50$ every year to use our internet conection to play online, the only system that forces the fee on its userbase the 360. You can choose to stay with a silver account but never play anything online. PSN isn't like that, and Im glad.

let's be fair, it's clearly an optional service, whereas with x360 it's mandatory if u want to play online. p.s. i'm not saying live gold isn't worth it. It's just free PSN > free Live

Well i like the fact that we get a free trail. It seems many people forget that part. [/QUOT

I might fork over $17 just to try it out. Or was it $20? Either way, if I don't like then I will stop paying. SImply as that. We still get to play online for free.vincent380

I believe you can try it out three months for free.

This is great, if true.

Anyone know when it'll be released?

From what I took from the press conference, they're adding in some very weak additions and taking out quite a load of features already included in the free PSN. Hmmm.....pass

I will guarantee you that over 99% of those "free" bonuses are of games no one even cares about. The "free" DLC will be for sub standard games and moving demos over to a "perk" list isn't exactly a perk I'm okay paying $50 a month for. PSN still has online play for free so there's absolutely no reason anyone should even consider this watered down premium service.

I should've said feature instead and in that I mean moving game demos over to the PSN+ service for an early release perk is stupid. What Sony should have focused more on was improving their horrible download moving into a painfully slow install junk that really makes me loathe downloading ANYTHING on my PS3. :(

I don't get the logic behind people comparing psn+ to Gold. You still don't need to pay anything for full online game integration, it's just for optional exclusive additional content.

Okay, found a list: -Get a selection of free games every month -Auto downloads of content and patches -Exclusive content and DLC -"Title trials" of games The free games are only playable while you have a subscription, so it's essentially a rental service. Auto downloads...nice, I guess, although you'll still have to wait for them to install when you fire up a game. This should be a standard feature anyway given the size of PS3 patches. Exclusive content...so they're going to shift upcoming DLC into time-exclusive for people who pay $50? Without this service everyone would get it for free immediately? What a deal!DJ_Lae

The only thing I don't like is that they said you only get to keep the free games as long as you have a subscription. That makes me want to pass on the service.

No, these demos that you get on PSN+ will most likely be earlier than the ones you would get on regular PSN. That means that you could get a demo of Killzone 3 in December while other people have to wait until Early February to play it. I'm almost 100% sure that games automatically install if they're not set to download in the background. It is still a nuisance either way, but it's not really big enough for me to say it's a major problem.

I think it's a pretty damn stupid idea: Sony is giving up their "free, full-featured online for everyone" angle in favour of a subscription service that's seemingly only worth it if you're a hardest of hardcore Sony fan. Hopefully I'm wrong and the benefits will make it worth the price, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Ok, what I hate about Sony's new online system is that only the people who pay $50 get multi-voice chat. If don't pay, you don't get it. With Xbox LIVE, since everyone who plays online has to pay, EVERYONE is going to have access to that feature. i.e. your friend may not have PSN+ so he won't be able to go into chat with you. This isn't going to work very well.

Cows: "PSN+ is such good for value for only $50 a year". -- actual quote I read. Dance_Gavin
Actually it is. Its stupid that we have to pay for map packs left and right. With this you get it automatically. Hmm pay $30 for map packs or just get PSN + and get it for $50 with a ton of other stuff.

Well I'll use the logic that cows have thrown around..what if you don't play those games that offer the free discounts or offers? What are you paying for then eh?

I get periodically free downloadable full games and minis. I get access to periodically free PS One games. Cross game chat. Qore (which is worth $25 per year.) Exclusive access to demos and betas. Discounts. Free avatars/themes.

And hey, if I don't have the games they offer discounts for, I can still play online for free. :)
This isn't going to work very well.shabab12
only 1 person needs to have PSN premium according to the press release.

Alright that's quite odd, so if you have 4 friends you normally play and talk to, you have to argue with each other who is going to buy the PSN+ lol
