Do you honestly think developers will create 50GBs worth of data for $60? It will take longer and be much more expensive for them to produce ONE game.
Yeah, it's great to have all that space. But, do you all realize what goes into creating that which goes into said space??
Please be realistic - and stop bring up the "superior" format "selling point". All that extra space works out for HD movies - not video games.

Correct, they'll leave data uncompressed to fill the space, but we all know the PS3 is here for Blu-Ray.

It's better to have more of something than not enough of something.

OR, they just use the in-game engine. Many games have used this method - it does wonders. Since everything looks consistent.

Hell, I don't know how often I will post this comment, but it looks like some fanboys don't get it.
No the BR format is not needed for the majority but when you look at epic RPGs and games that make use of cinematic presentation it will be used.
Did we need BR? No!
Will it enhance the gaming experience? Not proved at the moment, but who of you has a crystal ball?

Do you honestly think developers will create 4.7GBs worth of data for $50? It will take longer and be much more expensive for them to produce ONE game.

ps3 has a good change to do a bit better then 360 in the graphics for a few reasons . they have a very good cpu witch is much better then 360s and it can also help the gpu with graphics . the discs can hold so much space to they can push the game far without it being on a like 4 dvds . they can use the hard drive to install games to help them run even better to .

Do you honestly think developers will create 8.5GBs worth of data for $50? It will take longer and be much more expensive for them to produce ONE game.

A game only needs to top 8.7 gigs to not fit on a dvd9.

How about different languages, lots of cgi, full orchestral 5.1 sound or lots of extra's like making off's etc (like god of war 2 which comes on 2dvd9's). and it will save processing power that is normally used to decode the compressed data and can now be used for ither things (although the ps3 has enough processing power to do both).

50 gigs is over the top but 20+ is definetly possible.

The difference isn't that great. I'd also take a 2X speed drive over a 52X anyday... I like my peace and quiet. :P

You are exactly right!.....Case in point:  Motorstorm has EIGHT tracks.   Wow you have to love all the extra content there (sarcasm)  It's nice to see the developers take advantage of all that extra space (major sarcasm)

PS3 BR drive is capable of a maximum read rate of 1x@36Mb/s & 2x@72Mb/s.

X360s 12x DVD drive is capable of a maximum read rate of 15.9 MB/s.

Eventually I do believe tat games will appear which use most of the available space, this generation has barely started yet and at the beginning of last gen some games didn't even use 1Gb .  As for price all games are well overpriced unless you are getting them budget or on sale.

well for one what are you talking about?? 60$ devs don't pay 60 for a blu ray disk in fact blu ray disk manufacturing doesn't really cost much more than dvd it is simply tyhe initial cost of switchinging the manufacturing equipment which costs the most the disks themselves sure as hell don't cost 60$ if that were the case there would be 0 margin for profit.
