A PC like that will be fine for most people if they are gaming at1680x1050 or lower. But I imagine it would struggle to play games at high or max, even Crysis on high wouldn't run at asmooth frame rate on that PC. Its always good to spend a little more, and buying quality parts when building a PC, you more out of your money that way imo. Also in you look in some hardware gaming forums, people usually sell top quality parts for cheap.

True_Gamer_

1680x1050 is FINE...Much better than consoles.

so what you are saying is any rig is fine as long as it can do better then consoles. Thats like a runner acting like he is 1337 cus he can out run an old lady with a walker .

You make it sound like his rig is just barely better. That rig is far better than any console. Hell, my rig is better and mine is much more dated.

The thing is the system is already a budget build. Wouldn't you rather pay for something that will play the latest games on high and new games for the next 2 years or buy another pc in 1 year that'll cost more when added to this ?emperorzhang66

This is true if he is just gonna throw the old parts to the rig cementery. Most people don't sell their old parts so they end up spending more if they buy midrange parts or old high end part that will give midrange performance. The trick when using midrange and stay with the times is to sell them in something between a year or two(or whatever is applicable from what the person sees) and use that money to buy the next midrange part.

I have jumped on my main rig from an inicial 6600 to 7600gt to 9600gt to 5770 and overall I have just spent $282 in those three cards.

Same. Pretty much. But video cards are one thing. Budget everything = bad longevity.

ASUS DVD Drive-$19

Antec 300 Case-$60

Samsung 7200 RPM 500 GB HDD-$55

Asrock 870 EXTREME3 AM3 Motherboard-$90

HIS Radeon HD 4850-$100

Antec 550W PSU-$65

G.SKILL Ripjaw 4 GB RAM-$85

AMD Phenom II X3 2.6 Ghz Triple-Core Processor-$90

Total-$565

I don't know why most console gamers think you need a $2000 PC to play games, but this can play any game out there with graphics better than a console's. If you say, "$550 is still more than a console so its not a good deal." Well, you are going to want a computer anyway, so add $250 onto it (the price of an xbox 360 Pro I think) then you have a gaming PC. If you buy TF2 and Garry's Mod together for $25 then you have literally thousands of hours of gameplay right there.

When I build a new PC from scratch I want it to max out any game on the market, with a decent framerate, at 1080p. That PC cannot do this.

Someone can throw out any number they want. I bet I can find a $100 PC that can play a game. I guess thats the price we should all go by now. yep. $100.

Onlive doesn't have any of those games yet?

I was under the impression that Crysis was one of their winning horses.

I checked it out very recently and the library was very, very limited. No doubt it'll get bigger, I just dunno when.

Well if you have high end wants, you're gonna pay high-end price. You're saying what would be the equivalent of me looking for a new PS3 with PS Move for $200. Obviously that wouldn't happen because I want more than what the price will get me just like you want more than what that price will get you.

That's $250 more than what I payed for my 360(with a 250gb HD) and no games included. No Halo 3, Reach, Banjo Kazooie, or all of the other console exclusives I would want to play(also have Wii). No thanks.

Lets add on the 100 dollars screen the 100 dollar headsets the 100 dollar keyboard the 100 dollar mouse the 100 dollar mouse pad (joking) the monthly fees if you play mmos. Of course, If you do buy those accessories at a cheaper price they are not good quality and/or you disqualify that as a gaming pc. Not to mention how heavy desktops are.

We never account the price of screens with the systems. Basically because you can hook up a PC to most HDTV's and consoles to most monitors etc.

Speakers are relatively cheap ($20+) and mouse and keyboard can also be had for cheap. High end speakers/headset/KB/M are not a necessity for a gaming machine. However any KB/M is.

Unless you go to a lot of LAN parties, who cares how much it weighs? Anyway, I was just trying to say PC's don't cost as much as some console gamers think. (Man I should not have made this topic right before I went to school)

Yes, but you are probably posting on a PC right now, and that PC probably cost you $300-$400. If you spend an extra $250, depending on the price, then you get that.

750 USD will get them one that will play most games at high settings at the native laptop resolution.

Good price considering it comes with a screen.

This

The problem is, this is something hermits will never ever understand is that WE CONSOLITES ARE HAPPY WITH OUR SYSTEMS, LEAVE US ALONE!!!!

The big problem is, while the hermits goes on and on and on and on about, OMG, OMG, you know teh the eth with the $600 the dollahs, you get teh PC that's l33t than teh consoles! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! U teh stupid!! U teh must changa!!!!!

The porblem is, do us Consolites care? NOPE! With $600 bucks, I can get 12 games with that money! That money AIN'T coming out of my game bank! And besides, for many of us, if we want a PC, we want a PC that takes FULL advantage of it, what I mean is this, if I want a PC, I want a PC that can play the latest hottest games, such as Starcraft II etc, those game that LOVES to tax a PC to no end, at its highest graphics setting, highest resolution, with at least 2x AA, and with all effects and shaders turned on to high. And the lynch pin is this, I want that PC to match the current console prices, which means that PC can cost no more than $300......And not only that, I want the PC to match console life span, which means at the minimum, 6 years from now, if I pops in the latest hottest games six years from now, I STILL expect it to run at the highest setting, with 2x AA, all effects and shaders turned on high, I still expect the PC to run it at that setting with NO upgrades whatsoever!!!!!

Good luck with that! This is way us consolites could care less about PC gaming!

I was once a console gamer, then I decided to switch to PC and built my own (10 yrs ago).

Its really really easy, unless you are a total nitwit. I'm surprised consoles still exist considering the relatively similar price of admission and the vast superiority of the PC.

There is no excuse to play on console anymore, other than for "party" games with friends, or just feeling lazy and want to sit on a couch. Though, I love me the PS3 for netflix!

The PC in question is 4-5x more powerful than a console, though its not "futureproof" it certainly would obliterate most games out now. (upgrade to 4870 though --- not much more)

haberman13
Well, people want convenience and they don't want to bother building it ;) Sure, it may be easy to others if you do some research but there are still people who doesn't want to do that. Though, you can easily pay your local store to built it; I'm not sure how much is that. But Best buy charges $50 per device so don't go there :P
