I've played and enjoyed games at 20 frames per second, so 60 is certainly not a must.dzimm
What games are you playing at 20FPS?

let me rephrase, there are good games that are 30 fps but they would be a better experience at 60 fps. the only reason games are at 30 is obviously due to tech limitations, hell, to have witcher 2 play on super crazy on my gtx, i need to play at 30 fps. No one can tell me that a game would actually be better at 30 fps than 60.

What games are you playing at 20FPS?

Until recently updating my PC, pretty much all of them. :P

But specifically Fallout 3, BioShock, Borderlands, Oblivion, Flight Simulator X, Age of Empires III -- all of them ran at below-30 frames per second on my old PC, but I nevertheless found them very enjoyable.

Fair enough. I wish I had gotten Borderlands when my friends had it, looks fun.

Nah it is not necessary at all for most games, 35 fps works fine for me. However it is necessary for online FPS'es imo, especially some of the more frenetic ones like CS and quake.

Also, I think a stable fps in a range of 30-40 is superior to a 60+ fps that dips to 40 in the taxing sections.

you do realize getting games to 60 fps means reducing graphics, fps is more about gameplay than graphics. Another failure of a comment.

That is one reason Nintendo's games are mostly at 60 FPS because it helps the gameplay.

Nintendo games at 60 FPS

  • Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
  • Metroid Prime (GCN)
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GCN)
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii)
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)
  • Flingsmash (Wii)
  • Sin & Punishment: Star Successor (Wii)
  • F-Zero X (N64)
  • F-Zero GX (GCN)

I think that is all of Nintendo's 60 FPS games.

Judging from the fact that the most popular games on the planet run at 30 fps, half the WoW players run it at like sub 20 fps, and the fact that console game sales are still very powerful. I don't think anyone but PC elitists really have the NEED for 60 fps. Its nice, but surely not essential.

I mean in HD of course, im not here to talk about nintendo, that company disgusts me, its franchises disgust me and have no interest to me, kid icarus ? seriously.... Im talking more in the likes of COD, im pretty sure their giving up a ton of resources in the graphics department simply to play the game in 60 fps, Thats why bad company 2 is soo awesome, destructable environments, but 30 fps, that makes me sick (cept on pc of course)

Depends on the game really, for instance racing games should always be at around 60 fps or above, but with a slow paced RPG on the other hand it really doesn't matter at all.
