I don't understand. I'd take a constant 60fps over a constant 30fps any day. Playing games at 60fps is easier on the eyes, it's nice and smooth.
Seeing 60fps after seeing 30fps makes 30fps look choppy.

[QUOTE="ocstew"]I get his. His jerky netbook can't run it at a consistent 60 fps so he bags it.Rikusaki
My HP DV6:
I run Skyrim on high no problem. I get 60FPS indoors, but that drops to around 40 outdoors. I'd much rather have a constant 30. The game feels much smoother that way.
How about Ultra?[QUOTE="Chutebox"][QUOTE="Rikusaki"]That's not what your thread was about. It should be about how I prefer 30FPS on most games since it gives a more cinematic feel. Someone said it was my crappy rig, which is partially true, but I'd still rather have 30FPS in Skyrim, even with a high-end rig. Like I said before, games aren't movies. Your cpu isn't bad and you have plenty of ram, but that gpu is nothing to brag about.I was just explaining my situation. I'd rather have a constant 30 than a framerate that is all over the place. If I had a powerful rig, I'd probably install a ton of graphics mods, max out the game and then cap it off at 30.
Rikusaki
[QUOTE="nunovlopes"]
I don't know what these stable 30fps means. You never have constant 30. Any game will vary widely depending on scene complexity. Even if you have a beast of a rig the framerate will not be a stable 60 unless you vsync. If not you'll get 60-80-100-60, and I personally cannot tell the difference. 30 to 60 is clearly noticeable however. And no, 30 is not better. For me, as long as it is above 40 it is ok even if it varies between 40 and 60.
Also, motion blur plays a big role. It's why Crysis and Crysis 2 at 30-35 fps feels fluid, Crytek's motion blur is outstanding.
jun_aka_pekto
Most FPS games don't seem to have that "twitchy" problem. It's found more in wide open games like FSX. I'm not sure why though. It's also probably why MS included a frame rate lock in the settings.
Of course they do. Look at the ground, at the sky, at a tree, at the distance, you'll get widely different FPS on any game.
How about Ultra?mitu123
Nope.

I didn't get this laptop for gaming. I almost picked up the AMD Fusion version of the DV6 with the 6770M and 6620G in hybrid crossfire, but the A8-3500M is a mediocre CPU. Productivity performance is more important to me.

By productivity, I'm assuming general tasks. If it were for, say, photoshop or other programs similar to that, the Fusion would've been a far better choice because of GPU acceleration.

Lemme guess. Onlive maxes out at 30FPS?
Vari3ty
Ha was just thinking the same thing. I suggest making a new account, Rikusaki, if you want any of your non-OnLive threads to be taken seriously. Or is this actually about OnLive?
Next thread from op will be about how 720p is better than 1080p for some strange reasons and a bit of lag doesn't hurt the game and in some cases even makes it more immersive just because.
im having constant 60fps so its no problem for me. IMO framerate is always more important than graphics. For twich-based FPS games, 60FPS is fine. Those games aren't about quality graphics and beauty. Skyrim running at 60FPS makes it feel cheap. For me, it actually degrades the quality. I installed a framerate limiter mod for Skyrim to limit it at 30 FPS.
And with rigs that only run at 60FPS in some areas, limiting the framerate makes a whole world of difference. The wild inconsistencies in the framerate degrade the quality of the experience. 60FPS one second, 45 the next. The game feels much smoother and you appreciate the beauty of the game more when it's a constant 30FPS. It feels more cinematic.
Is this true for anyone else?
Rikusaki
But i do undestand that you want that cinematic experience, sadly skyrim really doesnt achieve that.
WTF! If the game actually ran at a solid 60fps, assuming your display can handle 60fps, that is better than if it were running at a solid 30fps and there is no time ever that this wouldn't be the case. Err... Mediocre? Not really. Your processor is a dual core, whereas the A8 is a quad core. A single core of your processor has more power than a single core of the A8, but as many modern applications utilize more than two cores, I'd say the A8 may have been better.I'm using it for audio production. Modern-day audio production software does have GPU acceleration (At least Cubase does.) Should've went with Fusion.
The steady frame rate is one of the main reasons i prefer gaming on consoles than PC, they give a far smoother experience than the erratic frame rates on PC
In most PC games the drops are unbelievable and take away from the immersion, even with the best harwdare

Triple buffering does not actually increase the dropped frame rate of PC due to bottlenecks
It does make the game smoother, but only if the game can actually be rendered internally at high frame rates in the first place, but that is not the case with most PC frame drops, which are actual drops to 10fps and not just synch issues
Loads of console games recently have had inconsiistant frame rates? Wow. You guys have no idea what you're taking about. CPU perofrmance is far more important for rendering audio. When you have multiple audio channels, ASIO and a VST with huge sample files, the CPU is needed most. The slow Athlon II core in the A8 just won't cut it. Don't let the quad-core vs dual-core issue fool you. The A8 has four cores, four threads at 1.5Ghz. The Core i5 has two cores, four threads at 2.3Ghz (Turboboost up to 3.0 Ghz).
The A8 3500M has the same performance as the i3 2310M. The i5 2410M is more than twice as fast. The bench below shows the A8 clocked at 2.4Ghz. And it still doesn't even come close to the i5.
Again, the A8 just can't compete with the massive memory bandwidth and throughput of Intel's architecture.
It even gets hammered by Intel's first gen Core i5 and a Core 2 Duo. How pathetic is that?
Trying to defend onlive again?
30fps is horrible with a mouse and keyboard.
kraken2109
depends on the game 30 fps is fine for a slow ass game like halo call of duty or battlefield or crysis.
30 fps is **** for fast paced games like quake though.

This. It's maybe because he is using a setting that is more than his PC can handle. Of course the card may handle it when you are randomly strolling with no action around but the most important thing when choosing settings is in a stressful situation because the difference from one to another is the origin of the inconsistencies on the framerate, unless it is a problem regarding the game code mixed with a certain hardware. This is were many people fail when configuring games while not having the latest hardware. It's similar to like when people measure FPS when practically nothing is happening, useless.

id rather have online exist than not existing it's online and gaming on ur own hardware can coexist im fine with that.

Expecting to game on a card like that means "You're doing it wrong!".I actually built a work computer for my mom a couple of months ago and looked for the cheapest possible GPUs and HD5450 was the cheapest of the low end AMD cards I could find.
It's the lowest of the low end cards in the market today. I can't believe someone is actually playing modern games with it. Must be horrible.
OP is so obviously a console babby.
Anybody who honestly thinks lower framerate is better than higher framerate for videogames is a crack addict.
