When I went to Wal-Mart to buy a game every game was either a shooter, a movie/tie-in multiplat or a crap multiplat. No good JRPGs, no platformers, no party games, no gimmick games (WiiSports, Eye of Judgment), etc. etc. It's changing a little in the next year but it's not enough. Until Microsoft can expand its demographics (faster than they're trying now too) they will be in last place. Period.

I know, some of my favorite games are AA but here the lemmings always brag about AAAs and such when in reality it isn't that great. If the Xbox 360 had a few other non-shooter AAAs it would be the PS2 of this generation.

I don't want Gimmick Games (your words) or party games on 360. That is what Wii is for. I don't want JRPG's personally (although there are a few already) or kiddy games (you called them platformers, although I can't remember a true platform game in a long time. R&C is a kiddy shooter at the end of the day) either.

So, to recap, gimmicks are bad, platformers don't exist anymore, there are JRPG's and more are coming, and Party games (mini game collections) are what is killing Wii's reputation.

i never knew this was a ps3 vs. 360 thread so it does not have to have ratchet and jak like sony it just needs 2 or great/good ones also i forgot about kameo it got 8.7 here for the platforming genre

also ff and suikoden being established franchises dsnt mean those jrpgs look bad it just means its the first in each respective franchise so basically like this just b/c crysis is the first game in the series dsnt mean it wont be as good as halo 3 it just means its a new ip

The biggest categories for 360 games are, in this order:

- Sports games (13 games rated 8+)
- Action/Adventure (8 games rated 8+)
- Racing/driving games (7 games rated 8+)
- First-person shooters (6 games rated 8+)
- Third-person shooters (4 games rated 8+)

Of course, under "action/adventure," they count Splinter Cell, Condemned, and Saints Row. IMO those should be under TPS (or FPS for Condemned).

The other genres are fighting games (2), party/family (2), RPG (3), and RTS/Puzzle (1).

Every generation is different. Stop living in the past...we welcome you to the present (unless you are a cow and you live in the future).

Last place? Microsoft is winning right now. Software sales are more important than how many Wiis are sold. Nintendo is the only company making a killing selling softaware for the Wii right now.

If you are third party studio, the only place to go to make some money is the 360. Third party studios helped the PS2 become the leading console last gen.

I was looking through my brother's 360 collection today and it is quite shocking, of around 20 games there are only 3 genres represented- shooters, racers and sports. My brother has quite limited tastes to begin with but the 360 software line-up exacerbates them. If you were to map the appeal of the software this gen it would be as follows: 360- US, PS3- Europe and Wii-Japan. The Wii has the most quirky and off-beat titles (which I prefer), the PS3 has a mix of 'Western' and Japanese titles and the 360 very much represents the tastes of US casual gamers with machismo shooters and fast-paced action games.

Simply your opinion. Cry On looks interesting, LO looks to be decent, and Infinite Undiscovery looks awesome in my opinion. I don't understand why you expected the 360 to come right out with amazing JRPGs. Was it ever known for that? No. The Xbox was known for Halo, as the PS3 is for Final Fantasy, and the Wii with Mario. Every console has its weakspot in games, and especially the PS3 at the moment. Sure, it's getting some diversity now, but the games are not living up.

Do I need to remind you that Viva Pinata scored well? You think it would be better on the Wii simply because that is the sterotype. All 'kiddy' games go to the Wii. I've seen threads of adults who got addicted to Viva Pinata.

All of this is simply opinion. You're right, that 7 of the AAA games are shooters. That just goes to show what the console's strength is. Is that a bad thing? Of course not! Surely you don't only buy AAA games though? You'll be missing out on quite a lot if you do that. :wink:

wii has two AAs one is a mini game game and one is a rehash of RE4 which came out last gen. and the 360 has 9 AAAs 7 happen to be shooters but you still have Bioshock, Forza and Oblivion which arent your regular FPS multiplayer game. And if saying Halo 3, and Gears of War is why the 360 is flawed is just retarded.

Not to say I don't like shooters, but I much prefer the level of variety you just showed. Last-gen I managed to get that from just one system, I don't think that will be possible this generation.

Why do people keep complaining about this? Tell me soemthing. If you were producing a top quality FPS or TPS title what console would you put it on? A console known for selling to people who enjoy those types of games or one where the users mostly enjoy other types of games? THAT is why most of the top games are shooters.

People who complain about this have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. So what if they are shooters? That means that most of the good developers who make shooters would rather put them on a 360 than a PS3.

If you are using the low supply of 360s during its first year as an excuse, then why didn't it sell double or triple the amount of consoles it did this year, as opposed to last year? It sold 6 million last year and 6 million this year, so far, right? Even with strong holiday sales, its not going to double last year's total of 6 million.

Also consider,

The 360 had no next-gen competition during that first year

The 360 was priced reasonably for a next-gen console

Compare that,

The PS3 launched against the Wii, a much more casual-friendly console (casuals drive sales) with a much lower price tag. Of course, it also had direct competition with the 360. And don't forget the PS2!

It had first-year games going against games like Gears and Forza, and it still has no games.

Even comprared to the 360, the PS3 has/had a high price.
