Now obviously if you're a PC gamer you get 1080p all maxed out lol, but for console games - what do you prefer? I'm fine with developers doing what they think is best for their game. 720p isn't that great anymore, but still enjoyable. You?

720 - 900P 60fps does it quite nicely for these weaksauce consoles. The new consoles however best be powerhouses or no sale.
Well, the 720p option would presumably be 60+ FPS so I'll take that. Framerate>>>resolution, every time for me.
Also if I'm a PC gamer I want 1440p maxed out. Keep your paltry 1080p.

Yes, I also get 1440p maxed out in 21:9, but still lol.
I prefer watching Donald Trump debates than playing a video game in 720p.
Ha! The unpredictable nature of that shit bag does make for entertaining moments.
I'm leaving earth if he wins the general. Yikes.

oh but he will win. Be ready to leave earth in under a year lol

What's the current rate on those Mars flights?

not to derail the thread or anything but i doubt he can win the general election. he's gonna struggle to get the minority vote and that is going to kill him in a general election.
framerate > resolution
Ok so lets play in 480p and get 100 FPS.
or 4k and 3fps?
I prefer dynamic resolution solutions for underpowered condoles. Make it look as good as possible and don't limit the game because of a performance number like resolution. Resolution is a terrible performance benchmark to try to force feed on console. I like what games like quantum break are doing.
Take a look at the best wiiu games. The render is always spot on. Everything has dimension and the animation is incredible. Imo the wiiu has the best overall visuals of the generation, save for Uncharted4 which isn't out yet
720P- all maxed out and high frame rates >>> 1080P- low settings and low frame rates.
Uncharted is not running at low settings at all in fact it uses some high quality visuals at 1080p.
QB look good but i don't think its models in game even surpass Ryse which is 900p without tricks, and doesn't look as clear either.
60fps at 900p for the weak sauce consoles.
In the end frame rate is much more important. It makes the display much smoother and easier on the eyes. MGSV at 60 fps is great.
If console gamers could regularly have 60fps in the big games such as Arkham Knight or UC4 the majority would never want to go back. I usually have to tweak a couple of settings such as AA and shadows to get it but it's by far the biggest improvement you can make to how a game plays.
4k maxed out and 60fps
anything less hurts my eyes and makes me dizzy
consoles are probably 2 gens away from that
On a console I would take 720p at a smooth FPS over 1080p struggling. 720p graphics look alright. I didn't have any problems with them last gen.
It's disappointing the PS4/Xbox One are so weak that games can't even do 1080p30 at the expected leaps of graphical fidelity.

So how did you survive until last year? You must have vomited a lot back when PC games were 320x200. 1080p didn't even become the "standard" until about 2010, and even then a lot of people were still rocking 1680x1050. 60 fps smooth gameplay was never a guarantee either, especially back in the day where devs pushed hardware at every chance they got. Crysis must have infuriated you since there wasn't a PC on the market that could play Crysis at max 60fps at even 1080p in 2007.
These kind of statements are absolutely ridiculous.
Cant play with 720p anymore, just too pixelated for me. I just stick to 1440p.
However, 720p is ok when you are sitting much further away from your display, thats why console gamers dont care much about resolution that much I think.
With my PC it depends on the game. It's always at 1080p but settings (textures, lighting, detail, shadows, etc...) will vary. For Alien Isolation, Skyrim, Battlefront 4, I can play Ultra. For Witcher 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider I play on High, which is still visually outstanding. I basically tweak my settings for optimal frames, doesn't have to be 60 fps all the time but I'm usually good with an average 50.

WTF are you talking about? Nobody mentioned those games. It was a general statement. Get your schizophrenia checked out because you are seeing things that aren't there again.

Somebody's insecure.
For a long time, I've gamed on a 720p tv and I could've cared less about a higher quality resolution. So I'd take frame rates over resolution any day.

Errr... What???
Answering the topic question, I'd rather have 720p maxed out over struggling 1080p.
As for 1080p/30fps vs 900p/60fps, generally I'd prefer the first option, depending on the game obviously. And I'm happy Gears 4 campaign is going that way.

I do because he imply that 720p max out high frame >>>> 1080p low setting low frames.
The truth is that if you max out in 720p you will not get high frame, which is the reason why QB has frame drops below 30 FPS even on 720p,while Uncharted which does look better will probably run at 30 or like QB.
Replace the names of the games with any you like the point is that you will not get high frames max out on 720p on xbox one.
Errr... What???
Play dumb so now 720p is ok with you because it is for xbox one, funny when you get mad because i call you a closet lemm, remember when you did the same crap for Halo 5.? You were in favor of sacrificing everything for 60FPS,but when it was Uncharted that sacrifice 1080p in order to be 900p 60FPS you downplayed it remember.?
So you are a hermit with a taste for greatness only when it serve you best i see, when the topic is xbox one your inner lemming kicks in an any sacrifice is ok...lol

WTF are you talking about??? Are you sure, you are in right thread?
@tormentos: wtf are you even talking about?
Ok this thread is about consoles and which you prefer 720p max out or struggling 1080p.
The dude i quote which is a closet lemming by the way,say 720p maxt out high frame >>>>> 1080p low settings low frames.
The problem with this ^^ is that on xbox one because of having a weak GPU you can't ax out and have high frames, and since the PS4 has a higher roof can do 1080p at higher than low settings.
Thats all.
