graphics matter just as much as gameplay.
a well balanced game that compliments both these attributes is typically a quality play.

tbh console gamers shouldn't be into graphics so much. Developers feel the need to deliver on graphics over performance now more than ever.
PC gamers can afford to be graphics whores because they have the option to balance it out with performance.
Every freakin time lol
Poll shows that most PS4 owners said that only graphics matters, Xbox One and Wii U owners says that story and gameplay matters more.
So there you go.
So why is the mobile gaming market so successful? Mobile is doing great only catering to 25% of the market that doesn't care about graphics.
I see people mention how Minecraft, mobile games and old SNES is proof that graphics don't matter.
So that means you want all PS4/X1/PC games to look like Minecraft, mobile games and SNES?
When we say we enjoy great visuals, we are accounting for the exceptions - all the indies and old school games we like. But there is no way we'd enjoy the current generation if every game looked like Minecraft, Flappy Bird and Chrono Trigger! Right there is proof that nearly 100% of us like better visuals - because I don't know a single gamer who would go for the opposite scenario where every game today (Uncharted 4, The Order) looked like Minecraft
And liking visuals doesn't negate our equal love for good gameplay. It's a fortunate thing that many talented developers are capable of juggling both concurrently. Yes, it's possible to chew gum and walk down a sidewalk!
I don't think Indies are the exception. Visuals are usually one of the first thing that gets taken into account when forming a perception about a game, sometimes it's the only thing.
It seems like most people in this thread are only taking into consideration photorealism. There probably wouldn't be such a resurgence in pixelated/sprite based graphics if it didn't catch people's eye.
75% of gamers are idiots
Indeed my good man.... indeed.
Saved me the time of having to post that myself.
I mean why would we want great gameplay? I'll take a half finished game that looks great! Who cares if it's full of glitches, bugs, and receives countless patches... I mean am I right? GTFO of here....
I couldn't agree more with you.... Graphics don't mean shit if the gameplay is underwhelming.... I'll take creative vision through storyline and level progression ANY DAY over creative vision revolving around trying to make something as photo realistic as possible.
It SHOULD matter, we paid a premium for these consoles and games and as a consumer, it is our right to expect the best and most from our money's worth.
If graphics doesn't matter, then we should be all fine playing Uncharted4, Halo, Gears and etc on SNES graphics.
people who do this are such fucking killjoys. Obviously PC is better, it's not fixed hardware. People compare similarly priced systems made by 2 companies that have fixed hardware.
You don't see some asshat ruining a dog race by bringing up the fact they're not nearly as fast as cars.
@ConanTheStoner: Sadly I would play a shitty game, if it had good graphics. Good thing most over the top technical showcases are never really that bad. Crysis doesn't have amazing mechanics but it certainly is unique in a way, and the graphics are what really made me play the series. You know just to see it with my own eyes... I don't see what's wrong with that really. I like to look at pretty things that were made by really talented artists, **** me right? :s

Based on the most popular selling games out there, and what is getting the most hype.. I would have to agree with this statement.

Well you're right though, most well funded technically impressive games won't play like absolute shit. They may be boring, run of the mill experiences, but they'll be solid at least.
I dunno. I'll give games like that a try, I guess I just won't go out and buy them, or play them all the way through.
One recent example for me would be the newest Killzone. It really does look nice and it plays well enough, but there is no way in hell I'd pay even 5 dollars for the game. Even for free I wouldn't force myself to trudge through it.
Crysis 1 is kind of an anomaly lol. NOTHING came close to that game when it launched, or even for some time after. I think every gamer wanted to see it in action for themselves. When a game is that fucking far ahead of the pack how can it not be tempting? Then again though, I actually liked the gameplay in that one lol
