7th and 8th gen the worst gens?

I have primarily been playing games or remakes of games that came out before 2005, all while desperately searching for 7th and 8th gen games worth something.

The search is very hard, but sometimes I find a title or two.

I'd say 4th > 6th > 7th generation, in that order.

Nothing beats the 4th generation. I got into it heavily around 2008 (talk about late to the party) just to experience what i missed, and it quickly became my favorite one. Simply put, there is an ocean of eternally ageless masterpieces that will forever be enjoyable. Phantasy Star IV, Chrono Trigger, Yoshi's Island, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Thunderforce IV, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, etc. are easily some of the best games i've played.

The 7th generation was great. Between the Wii, 360 and PS3 there were a ton of great games to play, and some of the best games ever made released in gen 7 (Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade, Bayonetta, etc.)

The 8th generation is way to early to judge. Call me back wen it's over, that's wen we'll look back and decide whether it was a good generation or not.

The 7th gen almost made me quit gaming because of how bad it was until 2010. The 8th gen seems to be off to an even slower start.

What nostalgia boat, what do you mean? I've been gaming since the ZX Spectrum +2 and I've never felt like one gen beat out any others until the 7th gen.

The 7th gen has been the best so far and has lasted far longer than any previous gen, others show their age, while the 7th gen can still stand it's ground. Talking about previous gens up to gen six, yeah I might say nostalgia. But I back the 7th gen as being one of the best, if not the best.

The current gen has just been shit so far. So disappointing, pretty much from the beginning when the specs were revealed.

I think it is. The 7th gen started off really good but later on started to become bad. And so far the 8th gen really sucks.

This is how I feel.

You have to be insane to say last gen was the worst ever. Last gen brought the heat. Best gen by far.

Now people will cite ballooning development costs, but where's the next-gen gameplay? I feel like most of what we're playing could have been done last gen, or was done better last gen. This is the Remasterbation gen.

Or maybe you're just becoming cynical and unable to have fun playing video games anymore.

Video games have never been better. Never before have there been such high volume of quality and diverse games. Don't limit yourself to one platform and don't ignore smaller developers and publishers. So much quality out there that people miss because they are focused on the few games that have commercials and big flashy graphics.

It honestly depends on the genre. While the AAA industry is rather shit right now, there are so many smaller publishers and developers out there cranking out so much good stuff. Even in the last gen, some genres were pretty good and improved compared to the 6th gen.

WRPGs: Absolutely sucked in the 7th gen, but are now becoming good again, and some of the best they have been in a long time.
TPS: These were horrible last gen too. Turning into whack-a-mole with guns with crap like Gears of War and Uncharted.
Strategy: Some of the finest strategy games were released last gen.

Overall, I would rank genres like this 5 (1998-2000 were the high point of gaming imo)>4>6>7>3. Too early to say for gen 8.

7th and 8th gen = "HEY LOOK PC! I CAN DO IT TOO.... ONLY WORSE...... AND COST MORE..." .... while almost completely losing their advantages/identity.

Ofcourse, peasants will say 7th was great, because they were brought out of the stone age and had decent online, and PC centric titles.... but as said above, started losing what made them good in the first place.

You either are PC, or you arn't there's no half assed middle ground. sorry plebians.

My ps3 is not connected online so i dont know if you are projecting your past mistakes , or you just play Mobas/FPSs/MMOs .

Relax child, I merely mean that in between all those short comings the generation had a lot of great stuff. This is more a legacy thread than anything, it isn't like the PC games aren't in the discussion for why Gen 7 was pretty good. I quite enjoyed Shadow of Chernobyl and Company of Heroes. The system wars troll game is fun and all, but there is a point where you can read between the lines.

My laptop plays witcher 3 on mid setting just fine but i prefer console because next year my laptop wont handle anything.

Still the most disappointing console generations... I made by point while adding the System Wars flavour.

Well, if you don't plan well, then yes I can see why you came to that conclusion ... you lost my interested at "Laptop" though... and I imagine it's not a ridicously expensive one to make up for the fact that its a laptop either.

Who is you all? I'm running a 970 with an i7, so my PC is a lot of things, but a budgeted one it isn't. Would I disagree that without Japan consoles lost their identity? No, but bottom line where the games of the 7th generation, no matter platform from what was it November 2005 to whatever the **** 2012/2013 good? yeah they were pretty bitchin. A bunch of crap about plastics means nothing to me. And Nintendo deserved to bomb, doo-doo ass motion controls.

japanese console gaming might have fallen off during the 7th gen but even if you solely owned a 360 or ps3 there were more than enough multiplats/downloadables that made the gen more than worth it.

Nah. Unless your focus is purely on JRPGs I can't imagine 7th being among the worst. And people trying to judge this gen now are impatient fools.

7th gen brought some amazing games.

8th gen is a bunch of remasters, QTE games, broken games, and delayed games.

5th > 6th > 4th > 7th > 8th

With the exception of nintendo, last gen was the best one yet.

7th > 6th > 5th > 4th > 3rd

8th gen has been awesome so far. If you own a Wii U. Its been nothing but badass exclusives and tons of fun. I can see why you would hate this gen if you bought one of the twins and didn't get to enjoy great games like Bayonetta 2, SM3DW, SSBU, MK8, Lego City Undercover, Splatoon, Captain Toad, Zombi U, DKCTF, Pikmin 3, TW101, Hyrule Warriors MP10, KRC, etc. etc. etc. And its only getting better. By the time the Wii U is done, it will be known as one of the greatest cult consoles in gaming history, along the lines of Dreamcast. And people should be kicking themselves that they didn't get to enjoy some of the best exclusives in years.

The Wii is the greatest console of all time.

The DS is the greatest handheld of all time.

On top of that you had all the games with the 360, PS3 and PC with shared multiplats.

7th gen is the best generation yet.

Been playing for more than 30 years and I think all gens were good. People just get attached t one specific gen due to emotional reasons. And... we are currently on the HATE gen, it's more important to hate stuff than enjoy it.

Correction. The Wii is the greatest selling console of all time, but not the greatest console. If it were, the Wii U wouldn't be in the state it is in right now.

The success (or rather unsuccess) of the Wii U has nothing to do with the Wii.

how exactly was it mediocre? massive leap over last gen (unlike 8th gen, ps4>ps3>>>ps2,and xbox was even worse ), HD graphics, 60 fps gaming, uncharted, forza, GTA, GT5-6 looked absolutely gorgeous. cant say about this gen, theyve already nearly maxed out the hardware(which is easy to understand laptop tech, unlike 7th gen which took some time to understand), remember when the xbox 360 at launch gave the PC a huge run for money ( rigs twice that expensive ran about the same quality), today basically PC is cheaper and has better optimization than consoles( direct x12 will help lower end rigs run better than same priced consoles, and high end ones will fly even farther away). DLC is practically common in 8th gen, remasters over remasters, games with good graphics but no gameplay/ content (60$ destiny DLC anyone?) and loads of games that were broken at launch despite delaying it a lot(driveclub, project cars, ac unity, bloodborne to some extent, halo MCC). i simply cannot see how 8th gen is/will be better than 7th gen, no way.

I think I need to clarify some things, while I think 7th gen was mediocre compared to 5th and 6th gen I still REALLY enjoyed it. Valkyria Chronicles is one of my top 5 games ever made, the 360 has my all time favourite third person shooter, the PS3 has some of my fav new IPs and the Wii has 3 of my favourite JRPGs.

When I say it's among the worst, I don't mean it in a bad way where it had NOTHING, I mean to me personally it didn't have those hit after hits that 5th and 6th gen did.
