Its all about preference.
I prefer smaller (8-10 people) games with teams that communicate and work together, but there is nothing wrong with a huge free for all everyonce in a while.
None are inherently better, its really just what you prefer to play.
16-bit era was awesome!Hangman550
lol, he is talking about the number of online people in a match. But yeah, the topic title made me think this was going to be about theose as well.

It all depends on the games. Some games are just horrible with 64 players for eg Call of Duty 2 while some are great like Battlefield. Too many players turns into a mindless frag fest but games like Battlefield work well since you are divided into squads and you can only communicate with squad members. How can you effectively communicate with 31 players or work as a team without squads?
Games like UT work a lot better with smaller teams also.
just fire blindly and ull get a kill somehow with that amount of players lolmingo123
it's a tactical game, you lay down in trenches more, it aint bunny hopping like in Halo or CSS
+ it's 2 shots will kill you
and since the game has day/night cyclus, you can use the night as your advantage ( althrough your tracers will be spotted by people with nightvision very quick)
sorry, I just like that game so damn much
More =/= better.
I would rather play a 20 player game of CSS over a 64 player game of UT any day. Unless the game is built for more, more =/= better.
Battlefield 2 is a great example of where more = better and UT and CSS are a great example of where more =/= better.
I never played a game with 64 people in it...let alone 128!! When I play Warhawk and we reach 32 players...it's crazy!! I would love to see a game with 128players blasting each other away!! Playstation97
If the map is large enough and the game built for it, then it is a blast. If it isn't, then it is chaos.
Multiplayer Strategy = 4 to 12..
RPG game = 2 to 8
First person shooter = 24 to 36
These I think are the sweet spots for the games I play
For UT games, I never join servers with more that 10 players in DM and TDM. Sweet spot for TDM is 4v4 imo.nappy65_basic
Same here. UT gets rediculous with too many players jumping around shooting. Call Of Duty 2 was also rediculous with 64 players especially since the maps were not that big so it became a grenage frag fest.

64... BF2 all the way
[QUOTE="Jandurin"]I thought this was going to be about bits...donnygorgas
Me too. 8bit FTW!
16 bit era pwns 8 bit :Pdepends on the game, 8 players suit gears so its fine, same cant be said for halo 3, halo 3 would suck with 8 players just like gears would suck with 16 players, cod united offi=esnive sucks with both 16 and 8 players but is awesome with 24+ players...so it depends on gamemingo123
Most people play 4v4 on halo3. BTB isn't even ranked.
it all depends on the game,
battlefield is awesome online because of how many ppl are agains each other
socom is 16v16 and it works great
rainbow six is 7v7 and thats perfect because its more squad based
and then RTS are cool when you have 1v1v1v1
