Quad core and 3 gigs of ram with Windows Vista premium

For some reason, I don't believe you.

I got a Q6600 with 3 gigs for ram, 2 300 gig drives in a Raid-0 config, but I only have a 7350LE graphicas card cause I use it for multimedia applications and other stuff but not games.

buy a 8800TGX.....right now....

or buy a 8800GTS and like 5 games.

How well will a 8800gts run STALKER or any of the other current games and are you talking about he 640mb model?

it depends on what resolution you are running at.....

but both 8800GTS models are very fast....and will run games as well as an GTX as long as you dont put your resolution to high.

Oh Lord. Get the damn card.

You won't regret it.

Somebody mentiond the 9800, should I wait for that or get a 8800gtx?

Depends can you wait until November/December? The 9800 GTX is supposedly a beast with more processing power than theBOTH thePS3 AND Xbox 360 combined. If it lives up to the rumor, is still yet to be determined. 1 TerraFLOP is a rediculous level of processing power though and thats what it is supposed to have. Imagine the jump between thenVidia 6800 and the 7800 and you will get a general comparison of the two(as far as we know. It may not turn out that way though).

I hope it runs on a 550 psu. I read on some sites recommendations fora 600 psu for a 8800gts for optimal performance.

If you look at the XFX 8800gts OC it recommends a 600 Watt psu for single and a 700 for SLI

I got a 8800 GTX OC BFG and it run without any problems on a OCZ 520 modstream. You need at least a 450W PS able to give 28A minimum... even if it is said you need a 32A, a 28A works perfectly.

The 8800 GTS is fine at 550W. The GTX, well its also fine but you really want a 600W. The 9800's are supposed to be using 35nm tech and have multiple GPU cores, meaning they only use up a tiny bit of energy. That means they should run fine on 400W PSU's. This is just what I have read.

I use a 32" LCD HDTV for my computer and my max res is 1360 x 768 in WXGA (which is the PC input for the tv) now if I went DVI to HDMI I may be able to go higher.

If thats your max res go with the GTS 640 mb for sure. Save you $200 and won't be even noticable in terms of performance really.

Once again, BFG recommend 450W minimum with a 32A channel. A 550W is stronger than my OCZ modstream 520 with only 28A on the channel.

A slight overheating is possible, but the card is warranted for life.

Euh? It's totally false on DX10. If I remember well, there was near 20 more FPS on max setting in Bioshock. For low resolution of course...

PS3 can still be found for $500 and later this year the new GPU cards are coming out, making the 8800's less expensive.

not really.... I have Bioshock in max DX10 with the 640 mb GTS. I get around 40FPS. I know people with the GTX that get 45 FPS, not too big a difference.

get an GTS...a GTX would be overkill for that situation....

eventually you can just SLI them if you need too.

SLI is not a option for my case. I am lucky to put one in. I got a mid tower and I'm sure 2 8800 cards will not fit.

The 9800 DOES NOT come out this year! The only thing Nvidia is releasing is the 8700, which is a mid-range card.

Anywho, I wouldn't go for a 8800GTS, as the 2900XT out-performs it (and the GTX in some cases). It's around $20 more, but the performance boost is worth it. If you're unsure about which PSU to get, I'd go for the Corsair 550VX. It has 41A on the +12v rail (single, I know), and comes with a PCI-e and PCI-e + 2pin power connectors. The extra 2 pins allow you to put the card into Overdrive mode. Without them, you're not overclocking.

You may not be interested in overclocking you VGA now, but it's nice to have the option if you want it further down the road.

Umm.... nVidia said they planning on releasing the G92 (9000 series cards. That includes the 9800) this year. Also, they are going to release the 8900 GTX soon too (next year).

Buy a PS3 and then latera cheaper graphics card. Even some 256mb ones do the job quite well. I still use the 7600GT and its outstanding.nicenator

Agreed, I've had that card for about 5 months now on my secondary computer(one I've got in my room), I was amazed at the performance boost i got from it. Of course, I've got an 8800 in the computer I am using right now, and I gotta say, it's one amazing video card. Now, the PS3 you won't have to upgrade and spend all that extra money, and you can just go out and buy some games. With an 8800, you have to go through a lot of compatibility things, and make sure your computer can run the baby before you do anything, and may need upgrades with it. If you're lookin for ease and just wanna play, go for the PS3, buutt if you love playin PC games, get the 8800GTX.

The 8800 series will get a big price cut this november when the next NVIDIA series arrive. November will be the biggest month for gamers ever. CoD4, BiAHH, Crysis, UTIII and much more.

I'm stuck at theexact same decision as you. I allready have a 360 and I have a Q6600, 2gig and a cheap 8600 for temporary.Want to get a 8800 GTS or maybe GTX if it will max Crysis... I don't know yet. Just 5 more days untill the Crysis demo then we'l know I guess. I really really doubt a 8800 can max Crysis on ultra high 1280x1024 like the guy several posts above me said. I don't know who he was quoting but system specs arent released yet... as far as I'm aware :P

On the other hand the PS3 looks very tempting... MGS4,FFXIII, confirmed FFVII remake, GT5, GOWIII.

PS3=2008

So I will probably get a gfx card this year for UTIII, COD4 and Crysis. 2008 the PS3 will be the next big thing imo.

Well, I do not know that mcuh about specs and such, as many here know, but I would go with a PS3 now. While I do know that the PC will receive some outstanding games in the near future (and always will), PS3 is more for your money right now.

Console game, in the end, is not about the specs when its launched, but the capacity of maximize the code running in the hardware, that will never change. So, you pay 500 USD innicialy to get better and better games in the long run.

Unfortunately, PC does make you spend money every now and then on upgrades. To those who know something about upgrades, overclocking and such, a lot less than those who know squat.

So, both are good choices, both have pros and cons.

PS- I was already thinking about my next upgrade.....I see I may end up waiting a little longer for those Nvidas 9000 series...heheeh...my 7600GTS will have to hold for now, unless I find a cheap *** 8600 and so on (not easy here on Brazil...but, at theleast,the prices are declining fast)

I enjoy my Xbox 360 cause it's fun with my friends from offline. I'd rather play with my friends fromoffline on XBL with voice than any PC game without my friends.

So what I'm saying is friends make games more fun!

I already decided to get a better graphics card, now the problem is to get a 8800gtx now or wait till Nvidia comes out with it's next card?

The PS3 doesn't really have anything I want even though I'm sure it'll last longer than a PC video card.

Hmmm well I dont see why you cant all voice communicate on the PC for starters but fair enough I guess, well if your not in a rush then maybe the PS3 , and wait a few months before getting the 9 series card ... I saiy this becaue well if your planning on spending alot on a card you mayaswell wait for the next series isntead of buying a GTX of this series which will quostionable max games like Crysis for example.

The card, unless you want to make it look like you have a shiny fridge in your room.

EntwineX

With that money I would get Quad Core and 8800GTS 320Mb.

[QUOTE="Elviathan"]If you already have a 360 then get the PS3. Most PC games are also out for the 360. Eurobacca

Total AAA (# exclusive)

Total AAA (# exclusive)

* PC: 9 (5)
* Xbox 360: 7 (3)
* Wii: 3 (1)
* PS3: 3 (0)

Total AA (# exclusive)

* PC: 62 (44)
* Xbox 360: 52 (6)
* PS3: 20 (1)
* Wii: 19 (1)

PC has 2 more AAAs and 38 more AAA's since the Xbox360 release .

I recommend you waiting untill 25 september for Crysis demobenchmarks. Nobody knows yet wheter it will max the game or not...

Most of my friends game on the Xbox 360 and don't want to bother with PC gaming and XBL makes it extremely easy to hookup online.

But I don't... :o Anyway, get the 8800GTX for god's sake, you can't let that great CPU go to waste with a crappy GPU! (Tho I'm too lazy to read the thread so I dunno which GPU you have atm, but I'm pressuming it ain't 8series)

Naw, I got this PC for basic things but then I saw Crysis videos. I only have a 7350 LE which is nothing for games but is good for watching media with media center and all the other stuff I use my PC for.

I think you should DEFINATELY get a new videocard, even 8800GTS/8700 or a high-end Dx9 card would do fine. Even if you don't find that many PC games interesting there is bound to be some titles other than Crysis that you can enjoy. You have a great PC, you might as well take advantage of it and use it for gaming.
