I built a $1200 comp that can run Crysis. The monitor and speakers jacked the price up to about $1600. I never have had a gameing comp before and let me tell you it is the best peice of gaming hardware I have ever owned.
Consoles just have nothing on the PC. The games are just so much deeper and more full of content. They are, at least in my opinion, more fun to play. With a PC RTSs and MMORGPS are open to me, and those are some of the best games ever.

so its worth it?
what games you playing?
I think you could build a rig that can play Crysis for less. And I'd say you could definatly upgrade your current computer to be able to play Crysis for less than that.thriteenthmonke
how much lesser?
Well,I was at walmart today and I came across this magazine on how to build your own gaming pc and i decided to look at it.It said that to play crysis it would cost 900$ to impovr your pc well enough to play that. And i was like screw that im not paying 900 $ for eye candy.WHats the point of a gaming pc any way when Ill be getting bio shock for my 360 in 2 weeks anyway?I also dont have the patince to wait 2 years for ports so the pc wouldnt fit me well anyways.ginglejangle:lol: I think it is funny when you lemmings use the waiting for ports arguement. Problem is, your logic always fails. Lemmings only say that because of Halo 2 (which most hermits could care less about). Whats do you say for every other game. Think Bioshock and Gear for example. See how you arguement is flawed? So halo 2 came late. The rest sure don't seem to be. Bioshock will release the same day. So please, give the flawed arguement "teh years man, teh years" a rest, it FAILS!!!!!!
I have a feeling youre posting from a PC? Yes? And that PC could be upgraded for cheaper than buying a new one yes?MTBare
Thats not always the case before i bought my pc i wanted to upgrade my old one by adding more ram and getting a graphics card but if i wanted to have a new card i needed to get a new powersupply and a new motherboard which basicly means i needed to build a whole new pc.
I just ordered all the part for my PC.. $1200 bucks and thats just for the tower. I'm not even really sure $900 would really do it unless you don't want to future proof. In my $1200 build I have a mere e4400 Allendale CPU @ 2.0 Ghz(The saving grace of this cpu is massive overclocking potential). To my surprise PC gaming is actually more expensive then people make it out to be..
Oh, well I will be playing Crysis maxed out.
You get so much more value from a PC than from a console, I get claustrophobic from using a console because it's so limited to games only and only the maps/games the publishers want you to play and then they charge you for a few more maps and stuff that would have been completely free on a PC. You can't use any mods or costume maps or anything.
And a PC isn't only a gaming system you know, there's so much more you can do with a PC.

You only got a E4400 with a $1200 PC? Did you order a $300 case or something?
Inexperienced system builders spend *way* too much money on useless crap. $100 cases and the like. They also make mistakes, like skimping on the power suppply, that really hold back their system. I built my first gaming PC, with monitor, OS, keyboard, et cetera for about $1000. As you spend more time PC gaming, modding, and overclocking, you'll learn how to make the most of the dollars you put into the system.
Upgrading my two year old machine to run Crysis well will cost roughly $450. Do I think that's worthwhile? Maybe... consoles haven't yet become affordable this generation, and upgrading provides other benefits, such as being able to run Vista well, having 2gb of memory for daily tasks, or having a fast dual-core CPU for tasks such as video encoding.
What's the point? Don't trust a magazine to tell you what's right for you, and don't shop at Walmart. If you are going to get into PC gaming, save the $6 those useless magazines cost and start finding the standard benchmark and tutorial sites. They'll save you hundreds over the course of a few years. Then, use sites like Newegg to pick parts - heck, even Gamespot reviews graphics cards every now and then. You'll save a lot of money, and you'll learn a great deal about hardware, so in the future you can stop paying Dell to do something as simply as pop RAM into a slot.
In any case, whether it's right for you or not is going to depend on the games you like, and how heavily you're into gaming. It's a great platform to invest in, either as a primary or secondary platform. Being a PC - console gamer really gives you the best of both worlds.
Xbox 360 - ps3 400-500 $
crappy computer- 400$
ok 720p hd tv 500R$
EQUALS= about 1,250
Good Computer and monitor that surfs internet and plays games- $1000
Not to mention the mods that sqeeze hundreds of hours out of games. You could buy one good pc game and have more fun with it then 5 good console games.
You know what else you use a computer for? Everything!
My god, if everything doesn't justify the price, I don't know what will.
Firefox takes up 1 gig of memory if I let it.
Where did you get 2 years for ports? Most PC/console multiplats come out around the same time.
And for 900 dollars, you'll not only get a PC more powerful than a console can hope to be but also a game library bigger and better than any console can hope to be.
Hehe 900 you say... I spent 4000 on my computer a couple months ago. Hehe my new computer i'm building is going to run 1600 for just the PC parts not including everything else that goes with a computer.
Yes PC gaming is more expensive than consoles but you can also do a lot more than a console so i'd say it's worth it.

LOL no you won't. You'll need at min 2 8800GTX to max it out. They can't even run the game flawless with 1 8800GTX and not on max settings and it's 3 months from launch.

Good thing that I can build a better PC for the same price of a PS3 where I live. PS3 costs about 650 euros here.

Why waste money on SLI setup? Besides you have no proof it requires that.
the 9800 Series is out around or after Crysis launch, 9800 > 2x 8800 GTXs.
1x 8800 GTS 640 MB will run it on higher super-high anyway.

Nobody says Dual GTXs ... thats some misconception added to this topic, infact the GTX and Ultra SLI's are not even compatible with Vista & Crysis atm , so whoever said that is just yanking your chain.
9800's will be the only thigns to truly max it, but only excessivly (1900x+ , 16 AA , 16x FSAA)

I think you need to clarify your comment. What I see you writing is that it will cost $900 to IMPROVE your PC enough to play Crysis. Some people are reading your comment as saying a $700-$900 PC can run the game. To me, a $900 PC is much different from paying $900 to improve the PC you already have.
Also, what does that $900 get you? Because the one thing I can't stand about PC gamers is when they say a cheap PC can play a certain game. Sure...technically it can if you don't care about playing a game the way developers MEANT it to be played. To me that is not playing the game. Clearly Crysis was made a certain way, and I am not playing the game the way it was intended if I have to set every single setting on "low" just to run the game.
So I assume that if you want to play the game the way it SHOULD be played, then it will cost an additional $900 to upgrade the PC most people own?

I've heard the Crytek guys maxed it out on a quad core @ 3.2 ghz and a 8800GTX.
You could build a nice (decent) one for $700. Plus it doesn't only play games.0starter0...that still sounds like a lot

LOL ever heard of OPTIMIZATION?
When the Doom3 leak was out computers could barely get 5 FPS out of it, by time of release the same computers could get 60 FPS
They say "OH when you upgrade, it all becomes obsolete after a year anywayz LOLZ!!!" No. My 6800 GS STILL plays games extremely well. I still play ALL of my games on high with a nice framerate. A good computer (if built right) can and will last 5 - 8 years depending on what and how you use it. 5 - 6 years for hardcore gaming 7 - 8 years for most other things. organic_machine
Biggest amount of garbage I've seen spewed since someone claimed that the Wii has good games.
First of all, bragging about your video card is laughable considering that card's benchmarks (and therefore release) came out less than 2 years ago.
Second of all, 5-6 years? I should remind you of what a fairly good gaming comp was 6 years ago. That would be a PC with 1ghz processor, 128mb of ram, a GeForce 3 graphics card, and it would all be running on Windows 98. Even if we totally forget the OS, was anybody playing games with this last year or the year before? It's probably been 3 years (though more likely 4 or more for any hardcore PC gamer) at least since most PC gamers would've ran this kind of rig.

Wow, please stop being so ignorant. The game ran fairly smoothly (as stated by numerous websites) with only a few hiccups and slow downs every now and then. The game hasn't gone through thorough optimizations yet. Cevat Yerli stated when Crysis releases, a 8800GTS, 2GB of RAM, and a E6600 will run it on ultra high settings. No game has EVER take SLi to max out.
