9.5 the new 8.5?

I think these games are seriously just that good. I mean, look at metacritic. Uncharted 2(96), Forza 3(92), Gay Tony(91), and Dragon Age(91) are all AAA games on meta too. So it seems that universally these games are very highly praised. It's not just gamespot. Even tho I do think they've been giving out 9's to easy. I mean i didn't ODST, Demon Souls, or Infamous should've gotten 9's. But oh well. They're just scores.

well although i question some of the scores like how gta ballad of gay tony gets a 9.5 but the pack gets a nine i do hve to mention that some people like @TomMcShea seem to be more fair and sometimes more harsh with the scores so when you see them giving it a 9.5 you know it was really deserving. Still belive the conduit deserved a 7 but oh well oppinions are what these reviews are made of

Simple: the reviewer didn't think TLAD was as good as BOGT.

GS realises they overrated some games earlier this year, now to differentiate in quality they need to rate even higher for recent games.Next-Gen-Tec

Games are just THAT good now. Personally, all games this year that have gotten 9.5s, I've thought deserved them. Especially Dragon Age: Origins and Forza Motorsport 3.

I believe that we simply are just living in an awesome time in the video game publishing history. I can't wait to try out Dragon Age: Origins.

You can't win in this place. If a game gets 8.5, its "teh flopperz" but if it gets 9.5 then Gamespot is setting their standards too low. Seriously dude, maybe some developers are just raising the bar (well, except Bungie who have been rehashing since Halo 2)

the games I've played that got 9.5 Gay Tony and Forza 3) earned their scores. it's the holidays, it really shouldn't be a surprise that the floodgates on AAA titles have opened. and I'm sure in the weeks to come we'll see at least one more 9.5.

Of course it's possible that this is just an incredible season for game releases.

Hey, I loved the only one of the 4 recent 9.5's (Uncharted 2) and thought it should have been a 10, so I'm not saying the games aren't deserving.

But I still wonder whether this signals a shift in GS's ratings. In the past five years, I've rarely seen a GS review score ever exceed the game's overall metascore. They've been spectacularly brutal in some cases -- look at Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction or Halo Wars, where they went 15 points under the metascores (89 vs. 7.5, 81 vs. 6.5). Maybe now they'll start reviewing more in line with where the metascores end up, which is fine. I generally go by the metascore anyways.

for wii 7.5 is the new 8.5.

Has it occurred to the TC that these game could be actually as good as the scores? :?
