A female Link?

This topic was posted in the wii forums and got kinda interesting, so since Zelda is one of those franchises so popular that it blurs fanboy lines, I thought I'd get SW's opinion on it.

How would you feel if the next Zelda (or any future Zelda game) starred a girl Link? I mean, each Link is different. Each one is the hero of a different era. There's nothing saying the legendary hero has to be male. Now, I don't mean a ditsy girl like Peach, I mean a proud female heroine like Samus.

I spent way too much time discussing this when I should have gone to bed.. short answer "No, its not worth it, and a female cant make the same impact in an epic role that a male can."

Im not opposed to the idea at all, I actually think it would be a great turn of things if one Zelda stared a female link. Unfortunately I doubt that would ever happen.

I like the idea a lot actually. I think a new main character would be a neat idea.

That would definitely be a very refreshing change that would be very welcome, at least for me. There is probably plenty of fanboys who wouldn't want anything to do with it. It would help add some new ideas to Zelda, which it has been so very much needing.

My last point is that it shouldnt happen because Nintendo doesnt know how to replace a male with a female.

I would love that. Not just for the fact that its a female but what it symboloises. If Nintendo has a woman in the next Zelda game then you can bet the games going to be pretty different/original too.

Well, the idea is to NOT make her a sex symbol...like most game heroines.

It would be interesting, and I wouldn't put it past Miyamoto to do something that crazy. That being said, I don't think it will happen.

Something like this would be the refreshing change the Zelda series desperately needs right now. I'd buy a Wii for this, as long as the game is good.
