A female Link?

This topic was posted in the wii forums and got kinda interesting, so since Zelda is one of those franchises so popular that it blurs fanboy lines, I thought I'd get SW's opinion on it.

How would you feel if the next Zelda (or any future Zelda game) starred a girl Link? I mean, each Link is different. Each one is the hero of a different era. There's nothing saying the legendary hero has to be male. Now, I don't mean a ditsy girl like Peach, I mean a proud female heroine like Samus.

Actually, the opening in Wind Waker states that it's become a tradition to dress BOYS into green to celebrate the Hero. They dress boys, not girls in Green. That pretty much confirms it.

But I wouldn't say no to a female lead anyways, just not Link. Why not make Zelda the lead? She only stars one crappy game nobody cares about.

It's ok to like it, I think, but to be THAT obssesd with it, wow.

I think it'd be a great idea.. though it wouldn't make too much of an impact. Link is a fairly adrogynous character to begin with. It'd be nice to have some more female main characters that aren't sex symbols.

It COULD happen, but is it REALLY NEEDED?

I mean, a certain Company (Whose name I won't mention) did some "Needed Changes" to a highly anticipated sequel to a certain Game (Which I won't mention), and it didn't end well mostly (Blaw Sales and tons of Alienated Fans for example).

I'm not saying that would happen, but it might be best to add upon the formula instead of...well...you know.
