if they cant pull this off next gen then I will be very upset, they should just wait until better hardware becomes cheaper. I dont want any less than 2gb of memory in my new console

this is a mod of a game that came out in like 2007, if they cant pull this off then pc truely will be decades ahead of consoles

gosh that video looked beautiful, games as a whole still have a long ways to come if they want to get photo realism, especially sports games, and even if the visuals reach the level where it almost looks real at a glance there are still other areas which need improvement to get an extra level of immersion

Can someone who actually knows what they are talking about tell me what the minimum hardware needed to pull something like that off would be on next gen consoles?

The reason I say this is because I remember earlier this gen when people would say PS360 can't make games that look as good as [insert PC game here] because consoles don't have as much RAM and blah blah blah and they ended up being proven wrong by mid-generation. (The wonders of optimisation, eh?)

Depends what games you are talking about. If you are talking about a game like Crysis being impossible to port and finally being ported,

well, running on a different engine with terrible graphics and an entire level missing, that's not what I call comparable to the PC version.

As for the required hardware, well, can't say for sure, depends on the engine.

90% of my gaming is done on console but we really need to have a reality check here.

i just helped a buddy build a pc with windows that cost $900 and games look amazing on it.

i just can't see nextgen consoles matching the system i just built.

don't take my word for it.

go to youtube type in "skyrim pc maxxed out" or whatever watch it in 1080 and see if you don't think that will be a pretty fair representation of what next gen consoles will look like.

Nothing wrong with a beautiful game, but I personally prefer a lot of things to beauty and high as hell resolutions. A smooth and consistent framerate, smart AI, customization and content everywhere, human animations and nice effects are all higher up for me. Its weird to play a nice looking game and get taken out of the moment because an AI enemy is doing a weird diagonal run glide into a wall.

People need to remember that a console would require less than a pc to run a game on the same settings. a console doesnt have a operating system running in the background stealing much of its resources. look how much of a different there is in hardware between consoles and pc but the difference in graphics does not reflect it, yes pc looks better but look at crysis 2 on xbox with only 512 ram, no way in heck could a pc with only 512 ram pull that off or even come close to it.

I'd say the Wii is shining more because of its cheap, cheap price, motion controls and casual focus, but the fact that it can have amazing games such as Super Mario Galaxy is a testament to great gameplay over graphics.
