2 years into this gen and yet the PS2 is still the most played console. It's amazing how a last gen system can outdo every next gen system. Surely those 10's of millions of PS2 owners would have bought a 360 by now considering its an established platform, I wonder why those gamers haven't bought one yet ? oh I know THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE PS3 !

Fact, over 90% of 360 owners are original xbox owners. I mean Microsofts saviour Halo 3 failed to sky-rocket 360 sales as most of you guys said it would, the month Halo 3 was released 360 only saw an increase of 20,000 units. Like I predicted most people who wanted to play Halo 3 had already bought one beforehand. Microsoft are failing to convince PS2 owners like me to jump in to the 360 and you know why ? maybe because 360 has a horrendous failure rate and dominated by shooters.

2008 will be huge year and most PS2 gamers will jump the ship to PS3, I mean it's pretty obvious. Surely if those PS2 owners wanted to buy a 360 then they would have in the 2 years it was out especially now that 360 has got out all it's killer apps. Think about it most Xbox owners have bought a 360 and next year with the release of PS3's established franchises most PS2 owners will buy a PS3.

Like me most PS2 owners are binding their time to get a PS3, I'd expect most people will buy a PS3 with the release of MGS4, GT5, FF13 etc.

Most PS2 gamers will make the move to current gen in 08 and from the looks of it the PS3 will be the option :D

Remeber the PS2 had the success of the Wii. Everybody bought one for their kids as presents and stuff. Now those people are buying Wiis because they are cheap.

Though unlike the PS2, the Wii has crap games. It has SMG (which is selling like crap), MP3 (sold like crap), Zelda (sold decent), and a few others (all of which sold like crap).

People are buying the Wii as a present, or to replace their PS2 (because they have gotten older and a bit more mature and can actually buy their own console now) and they are realizing that the games are not that good. So the Wii sits and collects dust.

Check out the attachment rates and game sales and you will see what I mean. The Wii is a hot item, the games for the Wii aren't. People want a Wii for one game, Wii Sports.

There is alot of xbox owners liek myself who did not jump IN with the xbox 360 because of the horrible games thatw ere on the original xbox an also experiencing its terrible hardware choices that destroyed ur games

so there might be quite a few ps2 owners who jumped in with the 360 because im assumin there is lot of original xbox owners like me who wer not satisfied with the xperience to continue on to the 360

Last gen had 160 million consoles sold. So far this gen there has been about 35 million sold. Once all the consoles hit $200-250 then we will see people buy them.

same on any ps2 fans that would downgrade to a wii. I know some ps2 owners who went to 360. I would buy 360 for Lo and other games with no online and the buy ps3 for online.

Like me, I play PS2 because there are enough games andI'm waiting for the PS3's killer aps and maybe another price drop. And who the f*ck needs a next gen console now? PS2 still owns all of them= FACT.

Those stupid statistics don't mean a thing, how the hell would they know what ever gamer is doing all of the time with which console? this is the same as asking 100 people a question then claiming the results are in a % of the population of the country.

i don't know where you got your "facts" from, tc (altho i suspect), but every former ps2 owner i know has moved on to the 360 or wii or both...

but not any to the ps3...

it's important to remember that ps2's are continuously breaking down prompting many to buy old ps2 since the new ps3 has no backwards compatability...

but it IS fun watching the cows spin... :D

well that 90% statistic actually came from Michael Pachter in the latest bonus round :P. Look at it this way 360 fans were boasting that the 360 would sell a million units due to the release of Halo 3 but that didn't happen because like I said before most people who want Halo 3 had already bought a 360.

In the 2 years 360 has been out it hasn't convined anyone other then the previous Xbox owners to buy a 360, sure their might be a few but on the whole the 360's fanbase is Xbox owners from last gen.

Next year and onwards alot of PS2 owners will start buying the PS3, I mean it makes sense actually. Who would hold out 2 years into this gen if they weren't waiting for PS3's Killer apps ? the answer is no one.

I have been waiting to buy a PS3 and I can tell you that so have alot of other PS2 owners.

I would like you to point out a 360 owner that didn't own a PS2 (you could say the same about the Wii to an extent).

I had a PS2 and never owned an original xbox. But I'm a gamer; and thus moved on to the system with games: the 360.

The majority of PS2 owners that haven't jumped into the "nex-gen" have not done so because they're waiting for the Ps3's "killer" games. It's because they're casuals who refuse to pay more than $250-300 for a console and $60 for games. And I hate to say it, but that's not going to change anytime soon with the PS3. You're not going to pick-up a PS3 for $250 next year. Sony is already losing billions on the $399 unit.

Those same casuals are most likely going to buy a Wii when they're available, not a 360 or a PS3.

Ultimately, one of the saddest illustrations from the NPD stats was that Sony's unprecedented ad campaign and price cut could not help the PS3 sell more consoles in relationship to the 360 than what it was doing before the price-cut and advertising blitz. If ads and price cuts don't help, there's not much Sony can do as developers lose more confidence in supporting a console that will not be lucrative for them.

Tango, this is even horrible for you.

Just because YOU don't know any PS2 owners that bought a PS3, doesn't mean a thing.

And then you proceed to say that all of the PS2 sales are from people rebuying broken PS2's instead of getting a PS3 and playing new games? And 360 sales wouldn't be from the same thing using the same logic? O....M.....G.

Fun watching the cows spin? You're a flippin' dradle.

I seem to know of 2 games, both of which have sold over a million units on the 360. And ajet fighter game that was once an exclusive Playstation franchise selling well on the 360.

...should I go on?

Now do you understand why MS made standard DVD's the set media for the 360? They're not idiots all of the time (only when engineering consoles).

They can get their price point down much lower and much sooner than the PS3; and unlike Sony, not bleed from the ears for doing so.

Micro Center is already selling 360 Pro's for $229 this holiday season. $199 360's are not very far away.

Once the large titles have a PS3 title out that will change. The biggest ones are GTA4, MSG4, GT5 and FF13. When all 3 are out we will be discussing something completely different on this board.

You've failed to prove they are loyal Sony customers. Every gamer last gen had a PS2. I had a PS2. Hell, I have a PS3. Doesn't change the fact that, overwhelmingly, I've bought (and continue to buy) games for Xbox platforms. I go through games like rock stars go through smack. When Sony can't sell ME something, they've got a problem.

My point is, when people go buy a new system, are they really going to look for Sony, or are they looking for Madden and GTA, and maybe that Halo game they missed out on last gen?

I hate to break this to you, but most of those PS2s sold at a price under $200 and that's what it's going to take for a lost of people to switch to another system. I really don't see PS3 dropping down to even $250-$300 next year so while I'm sure there will be some migration over the year, it won't be massive.

As foryour theory on 360 owners, I think you're wrong. One of the things about PS2 and Xbox was that PS2 was out first, and in that more affordable range first and there were more games available for it. It made little sense for most gamers that had a PS2 to get an XBox for a few exclusive games. Now that's reversed. 360 was first, with the bigger library and smaller price. I know I can't be the only one that bought a 360 but never even thought about the original XBox.

I have 8 good friends with 360's and only 3 of them had an original xbox. I have a 360 and never thought about the original xbox either. I was Sony all the way last gen because I wanted the most/best games.

It's funny how the PS3 is like the xbox/gamecube of this generation. Things switched so suddenly.

If anything, PS2 owners will switch to the 360 - the 360 is the closest to what the PS2 was last-gen demographic-wise.

If you're a hardcore gamer, you don't wait 1-2 years to get a console. Most of the text-book "gamers" from the PS2 era have already moved onto the 360. That's why the software sales are so strong for the 360. It's because 360 owners are real gamers that spend hundreds and often thousands on games.

The casuals which make up most of the PS2 user base will move onto the cheaper Wii. But no casuals have gotten a chance to pick-up a Wii yet because true casuals are not freaks that line-up at 5 in the morning to get a video game system.

Wha, wha, what??? PS2 reached all kinds of demographics. That's why it sold so well. And its the same demographics that Sony is aiming for with the PS3. At least when it comes to the games. Yes, I know the price was way out of range.

Sony's proven and will prove further with the PS3 that they can hit all age groups. Look at the current and upcoming titles. Flow, Uncharted, HS, Super-Rub-A-Dub, LittleBigPlanet, SuperStardust HD, Ratchet and Clank, etc. 360's lineup is geared more for one demographic.

Hey, I'm a PS2 gamer who bought 2 current gen consoles. Hint: Neither of them was a PS3. A real gamer wants... ya know... GAMES. Lots of games. Not a movie player with a fewgood exclusive games. As for the casuals who carried the freaking PS2(as many seem to conveniantly forget), they've gone to Wii. PS3 has nothing left, apart from brand name and a handful of (admittedly great) exclusives.

Fact, over 90% of 360 owners are original xbox owners.

Like me most PS2 owners are binding their time to get a PS3,

Right now seems like a good time to buy one seeing as you can get a 40gb one for $400. I already bought a 20gb last year for $500. I don't see another price drop coming next year though. It would really surprise me if they droped the price yet another $100.

A lack of japanese developer support is one of the major turn-offs I have as a PS2 owner going to the XB360. I'm just waiting for Sony to pick up sales in Japan, its homeground for delivering proper next-gen titles to the more "dedicated" gamers out there. The XB360, while having some great games, is getting mostly Western-games, and shooters. The PS3 seems to end up with the more varied library between original IPs, niche titles and a mix of japanese and western support. This is the key system seller for me.

Hmm, Lost Oddessy, halo wars, and Ninja Gaiden 2, Dead Rising 2 are all exclusives to the 360, and Sabotuer, Darksiders, Mercenaries 2, Endwar, DMC 4, Army of 2,resident evil 5, dark sector, UT3, GTA 4, and Fallout 3 are all going to be for the 360 and most probably be better on it than the PS3. Oh, and als, ff13 is going to be on the 360 within a year of it's release, oh, and another thing, I was a Sony fanboy but when I relized the PS3 sucks balls, I converted. PS2 owners do need to get into next-gen, I agree with you there, but on the system with the better hardware, specs, and all around power-the 360.

Less than 17% of the 360 gaming library are shooters.

And the PS3 best game is a shooter.

Try again.
