Interesting, next knew that. False too. If you do that, you get a FULL ring of red lights. The red ring of doom is 3 red lights. It has happened to me twice. and how difficult would it be for someone to photoshop the 4th red light out? not that difficult and with how many people hate MS and the 360, I would not be surprised if people did do that.
the only problem i have with my 360Â is that cluncky power cord, i always have issues trying to insert it into the back of my 360, other then that i love it......
Microsoft offers an extended warranty out of the box and so do retailers. Sony DOES NOT offer an extended warranty. I was told by Sony that the consumer must buy a warranty from the store. Mine was crappy the day I bought it and was immediately returned. Take a poll a year from now when these units start failing and the noobs who didn't buy a warranty have to pay Sony to fix it. How can you buy a $600+ console w/ games and accessories but no warranty? At least Microsoft was responsible to at least offer a warranty and extend the original one to a year.terrellpakeman

Are you that dense? Read my post again. They offer a 2 year extended warranty at a price(since launch) AND they extended their original warranty from 90 days to a year. You misinterpreted everything.
I just wanted to add that when my system died a couple days ago, it acted funny with the GRAW2 and Star Trek:Legacy demos, and then it later died the next time I played the Legacy demo. Other games in between that period of time worked fine so I can't help but feel those games did something lol.Â
However, maybe it was going to die anyways, I got it at midnight launch.  Oh and sorry I keep talking about it but it just happened a couple days ago and it still ticks me off that it happened :P
i'm on my fourth - bought on launch. the newest model i have seems to be pretty solid though, all replacements were at my front door 48 hours after the defective unit was picked up. in 2 cases i had a replacement same day.
one of my meltdowns was actually caused by a defective intercooler accesory, fan died and the heat build-up was so severe is melted the 360 case plastic and warped the back seal by about half an ince in one spot.
I had a launch console die after 11 months. MS fixed it for free and had it back to me in about two weeks. But the 360 is such a fracking great console that I bought another one to play while my other one was being fixed. I now happily have two, one for the living room, and one ofr the TV in my office.
The 360 is an amazing console. The first runs have a high failure rate.  That sucks... but otherwise the 360 is easily one of the best consoles ever. (and yeah... it's a little noisy too.)
I've got a launch 360 and have never had a problem. All good here. :)
I don't really think that polling system wars is going to prove anything however. Half of the people could be lying or making up having a 360 to begin with just to say it busted. 5% defective ratio is really all that needs to be cited, which is still above average to begin with (average being 3%).
But, yes, never have had a problem here and have mine since launch.

Well It may as well have been dead, I was heartbroken. I love my 360, my little launch console...I am so afraid it is going to die like yours though :(
mine has died once but thats not really what pissed me off, when i sent it to microsoft they literally lost my console, so i was on the phone with them almost every day for 2 weeks trying to figure it out and finally i had to go back to my local post office and get them to search through there records, ( luckily i have a family member who works there) and they had to call microsoft to confirm i had sent it. the customer service was absolutly horrible to. so im hoping this one doesnt break so i wont have to go through that again.

You'll be buying the latest wave of 360s. They are more reliable. You've got the one year warranty so you won't have to be concerned for a while either way.
But the thing is... the 360 is one heck of a great console, despite it's two short comings: noise and reliability. Neither is that bad... but if you had to point out the flaws of the 360... that might be the entire list. Everything else is fantastic.
