i agree. most games this gen are boring as hell. catering to a gen with shorter attention span is my guess... and this isn't an insult, but a fact of life. gamers these days want pretty things to look at, lots of big bangs, and most couldn't care less about the actual gameplay that lies underneath it all.

still some great games this gen though. few and far between though.

I'm 22 and have been gaming since I was eight. I used to enjoy gaming much more when I was younger, especially back in the NES days. Super Mario Bros. was something else, and games used to be able to actually scare me. I'll never forget gathering the courage to play Doom II on a friend's PC only to turn it off as soon as I'd be left alone in the room. The younger you are, the easier it is to get immersed I suppose.

I think my gaming peak was at 12-13 years, playing the crap out of the N64 with my friends. Those are definitely my favourite memories of gaming, 4 player Mario Kart, Goldeneye, WCW/NWO Revenge...

PS2 came along, I bought it and liked it, then later got a real sweet PC (for the time, 2002) and oh the joys of PC gaming (my personal favourite, but being a rational consumer I'm not gonna spend ridiculous amounts of money on upgrades). One of the best things to do in life is get high and go on killing spree massacres in GTA Vice City with a mate... we got pretty damn good. Then went on a long hiatus as I entered university. Recently bought a PS3, and have seven games for it.

I guess I still like gaming, but the wow factor is definitely not what it used to be. I hate the way games are so much shorter (and easier, I think) than they used to be; I miss the days where it would actually take at least three weeks to complete a game or games like Goldeneye which would get so much more hours out of you since you could unlock cheats etc. I guess with higher development costs with graphics etc. it's something we gotta deal with *shrugs. It's wierd but I think one of the reasons I dont play so much anymore is due to the fact games are shorter and so I think jeez, do I really wanna spend 40 quid on a game I'll probably go through in a week?

I'm 35, and have been gaming since I was 6 on the Atari 2600. Since then, I've had most of the consoles and have been a heavy PC gamer since the mid 90's. I was almost out of console gaming early in the PS2's lifecycle (yeah, I bought the Bouncer) - but got sucked back in and went overboard, getting in the handhelds, GCN and Xbox. Now, I'm trying to keep up with PC games, 360, Wii, PS3, PSP and DS. There is not enough time in the world to play. What I try to do is only buy the games I absolutely must have, gamefly others, and wait for substantial price drops on games that are interesting, but not on the "must have" list.

Since January 1, I cannot even tell you how many games I've purchased - Steam was having their year end blowout sale and I picked up a bunch of stuff. Then, I took advantage of some Best Buy deals and reward zone perks to pick up 7 360 games - none cost me more than $20. There's no way on God's green earth I can get through them all. When it comes to genres, I'm open to just about everything, but I have found starting with FFX-2 and ending with Lost Odyssey that JRPG's just aren't worth my time any more, so I don't even entertain the new ones. Reason being - they're all the same story wise, and difficult to pick up and play when you've got 30 minutes to get a quick gaming session in, or when you're got a lot going on and can't play for 3 weeks - getting back into them is insane - so I don't buy them anymore.

As far as finishing a game - if it intrigues me, then I will. If it doesn't, then it goes on the shelf of abandonment (don't like to trade in games). As for games that I stick to of late, those have been Fable 2, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, WoW and WAR. I could go on and on with the games that I'd like to go back to and finish, but it would be a futile effort. In short, I play a game until it's not fun to me any longer. I play games for enterainment, challenge, catching up with friends now living in different parts of the world, and most of all, to unwind for a couple of hours before I have to get back to my real world responsibilities. I don't play ratings, sales, or fanboy politics, so once a game bores me, it's done.

I'm 29, homeowner, live with my G/F...

I don't have the time for gaming. I couldn't imagine having kids. I get maybe 12 hours a week gametime. It sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. My GamerScore is an embarassment. It's tough for games like Mass Effect (Which I love) but if you're playing in 1-2 hour stretches, you forget the storyline and stuff and it just makes it hard to play.

Hey man, never say your gamerscore or trophy count or whatever is an embarrassment. Just because you dont have the time to put in that some people do, does not make you any less of a gamer. As far as time for kids, you would be surprised how you can and will find the time you need for them. :) They are worth every bit of it, too. :D (I have two boys 5 and 7, and they are gamers, too!)

I barely have any time for games any more. I'm either at work or working at home. The only games I've been playing are online Steam games, that take about a minute to start up.

Nevertheless, when I do get free time I tend to play a few video games.

I ran into this a while back, then quite gaming for 4 years. I was really busy getting my life together at the time, plus games wore out their welcome with me. I become bored of the hobby. Then I picked up an Xbox 360 4 years later and found gaming to be more exciting then ever, and then purchased a PS3 and Wii, and also built a PC.

It's not so much a matter of time for me, as taste in games. My heaviest gaming periods were the C64, NES, SNES. Genesis, and TG16 days. Mainly because I had the time and tons of games to play then. While I still gamed on the N64, GC, PS and PS2, I bought less games because of time and money issues, but also because I wasn't liking most of the "Must Have" games. I find that a lot of my gaming tastes still are tied to those earlier games, which is why I do most of my gaming on the DS, Wii, and PSP. Although I have found some gems on my 360.

I turned 33 in December, I probably buy more games than ever before now, I own all three consoles this gen but I have a serious back log of games in my house that includes stuff like Fable 2, GTAIV, Fallout 3, Lost Odyssey, Left 4 Dead, End War. I'm ashamed to say I've hardly played them. It would take me months of gaming to finish them and between work and my girlfriend I just don't have the time. But I still can't stop buying new releases. I'll be picking up Killzone 2 and SFIV next month and RE5 the month after that.

It's very stupid but I'm not going to stop buying games so I may as well not worry about it. I'll get through them all eventually.

That's what happens when you take the time off to get your life in order, then you can afford all the gaming you want. Last gen, I could hardly afford 3 games a year. Now I buy pretty much any game I want, but I still set limits, because I know I won't be able to get around to playing them all.
