I don't know about you, but I love the adventure genre. I think it's the most entertaining, and the most engrossing genre out there. They always have the best stories, best graphics, and best soundtracks.

Unfortunately, many great adventure games go un-noticed. There are many obscure PC adventure games that top any game out there; but they never get the proper advertisement and attention.

This is why I wanted to compile a list of some of my favorite adventure games. I will also compile a list of future adventure games to look forward to. If you want you can make your own, in addition to mine.

NOTE: I will continue to update this thread, so do not tell me I'm forgetting a game :P However, reccomendations will be more than welcome. :)

Indigo Prophecy (PC)

Hotel Dusk (DS)

Sanitarium (PC)

Grim Fandango (PC)

The Longest Journey Series (PC)

Syberia Series (PC)

Myst Series (PC)

Monkey Island Series (PC)

Circle of Blood (PC)

Obsidian (PC)

Trace Memory (DS)

To be continued....

I do miss good adventure games, the genre is with each passing year getting less and less attention.

Grim Fandango and Monkey Island pwn.

Some recommendations;

  • Broken Sword was another good series (well some of them).
  • Manac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle
  • Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis
  • The Last Express
  • Full Throttle

It's a start...but it needs more Sam and Max, Gabriel Knight, Discworld, etc, etc, etc.Planeforger
Yeah, I know. It's a pain to put pictures in though...so it'll have to wait. Sam and Max rocks though.

Yeah, but at least we get Alan Wake and Heavy Rain later this year (or possibly next year); there are many adventure games coming out on PC this year as well. But, it is getting worse and worse each year. Everyone is focused on shooters. :(

Did you ever play the Sierra Robin Hood game? Robin Hood: Conquests of the Longbow was the name, I believe, and I think it may just be my favorite Sierra adventure game, above both the King's Quest and Space Quest series.

I doubt it...it just wouldn't sell well in this day and age. Even if it did come out, it they would probably screw it up.

I did, back when I was far too young to really get it. I got stuck, but boy did I have a lot of fun.

What about Quest for Glory? I know they had quite a few RPG elements, but as far as I know they were mostly adventure games. I loved those.

Edit: Darn. It got mentioned while I was typing this. Foolish me!

Some great games/series right there.

The genre needs some more standout titles. I believe L.A.Noire is an adventure game? That could be good.

Are there any other adventure games that people are anticipating?

As said earlier, most upcomers in the adventure genre and cross genre (ie, Alan Wake), as the genre itself has been marginalised over the years.

Yeah, but at least we get Alan Wake and Heavy Rain later this year (or possibly next year); there are many adventure games coming out on PC this year as well. But, it is getting worse and worse each year. Everyone is focused on shooters. :(

3 was definitly my favorite. the voiceovers were great and the cartoon style was better than the 3D style IMO. but they were all hilarious. I hope poeple here recognise my sig.

Rockstar have proven that they can make a great game even if GTA isn't in the title (Bully, Manhunt, Table Tennis) so I am confident about LA.Noire...

My only concern (and this also relates to Alan Wake) is that the games will be too short and lack reply value which makes them hard to justify the price, so I am hoping both MS/R* make them lengthy yet captivating which is a tough job but both are talented devs so I know they can do it.

Ahhh, Fahrenheit my personal favorite adventure game. Though the last quarter of the game got all silly, it sure told a damn good story.

Plus there was the sex scenes, which is always a plus

Well, alot of Adventure games are short (recent ones, especially). Both games will be good though, so there shouldn't be any worrying about them.

My favourite was also 2, which is why I hope that if they eventually do make a sequal, Lucasarts should let Ron Gilbert run the project, so that he could finish the 'original trilogy'.

*Edit* I've updated the first page a bit. Might add more later.

I guess that it was originally called Circle of Blood, and then when the sequal came out, the series was called 'Broken Sword'...but I don't know, I've never played those games.

Dear god, I thought I was the only one that played that game. One of Sierra's finest.

I'm glad Gabriel Knight was mentioned. Can't forget other lesser known Sierra titles like the Laura Bow Mysteries: The Dagger of Amon Ra..... or the Adventures of Willy Beamish

Jack the Ripper, Still Life, Echo, and Bad Day on the Midway are all pretty good.

Some great games/series right there.

The genre needs some more standout titles. I believe L.A.Noire is an adventure game? That could be good.

Are there any other adventure games that people are anticipating?

I'm waiting for Grey Matter, sinking Island, Jack Keane, Kaptain Brawe, Cassius Pearl, So Blonde, Vampyre Story, Experience 112,Undercover, Overclocked plus all the upcoming episodes of Sam and Max and Blackwell Legacy

I've heard about Overclocked. It looks promising.

I'm so happy someone else knows about this game. The control scheme is a bit awkward, but the game rocks; it's pretty damn scary too.
