Before I start, I tried to make this as fair as possible. I do own GeoW, but I absolutely hate it, and I want MGS4, that aside, I tried to make this fair.
Imo, they look equally amazing, but you decide.

Hell yeah! Let's compare a CGI screenshot with real-time. :DChrnoTrigger
I sure hope that was sarcasm.

Um both of those are cut scene shots.

Where's the CGI? Both games only use In-engine cutscenes. I have finished both games more than once, so I would know.

Let me say this just one more time: Both games use in-engine cutscenes. The gameplay looks that good.

I've played and beaten the game. It does NOT look like that, that's either a pic from before the game was released or it just looks really good because it's been resized really small.

In-engine != ingame and neither look that good ingame. Especially the AA levels. Theres no point in using cut-scene shots when you can just as easily use ingame shots.
WOW
I honestly can not believe that there are still people who don't know Gears of War/Metal Gear Solid 4 use in-game engine for all their cutscenes. You people are posting on a damn video game message board, how do you not know this by now? Yes, the games look that good while playing. That is what they actually look like. You people need to get away from your Wii's or upgrade to an HDTV or something. I am honestly baffled by your ignorance.

You don't get camera angles like this during gameplay sequences. :|[QUOTE="speedjunkie1992"][QUOTE="ChrnoTrigger"]??? Neither game uses CGI...[QUOTE="Sooshy"][QUOTE="ChrnoTrigger"]Hell yeah! Let's compare a CGI screenshot with real-time. :DChrnoTrigger

When you change the camera angle and add camera effects to it, it looks that good. But it's still using in-engine textures and models. You play Gears of War from a behind the back perspective, but when you zoom in into the models they looks very good. There is detail that you notice when you are that close that you don't notice while playing.

Even in the cutscenes, from what I remember, Baird never looked that detailed. I'd believe this if I got a youtube link or something to the cutscene :/

Baird was just as detailed, the only difference was the movement. In cutscenes they used custom animations.

You don't get camera angles like this during gameplay sequences. :| All the cutscenes use in-game engines...Sooshy is correct. It looks better because of the camera with gameplay(not cutscene) images your just getting Snakes back and the ground but when its in a cutscene you get a feel of your environment because the camera angle is showing not just Snake but every else. If you don't know Camera angles can make or break looks....Gears has better textures and color. I dont know what the guy who said the background is a blurry mess in the GeOW pic. Gears textures are much better and not near as blurry as MGS textures! But, thats what happens when the Sony sheeple glasses are put on. Oh yeah, love how MGS looks all green.... sikeFranco-J
MGS4 isn't all green. its just that area of the game. obviously you haven't played the game. I say both games look equally amazing MGS4 has a deffinate edge but i wouldn't cry over gears either
I will say Mgs4, only because the background is not a blurry mess...Franko_3Big fan of 2D tree branches, are ya?

oh, and both games look good.
You should be using a GeOW2 screenshot instead.DuDisNow
Oh that's brilliant! Lets compare a game that is out and critically acclaimed to a game that is months from release!
Okay I'm back in the real world! They both look good and both have their strengths and weaknesses. In overall clarity, animation, game length and in-game smoothness, MGS4 is better. GEOW has better textures up close and shear brutality on the games side. Plus a better on-line experience. I pick MGS4 because it is a much more intelligently thought game in my opinion.

Gears of War 1 (and Gears 2), both use in-game cinematics. Just watch the Unreal Engine 3.5 demonstration, it shows you there.
My grandmothers oatmeal rasin cookies>metalgearsolid 4/gears of war>fanboys who think one is better than the other.
