Let me say this just one more time: Both games use in-engine cutscenes. The gameplay looks that good.

the background should always be less focused than the foreground because the camera is focused on the character. If both the background and forground were equally crisp, you'd have no dimension. Right now, put your fingeer in the air and focus on it and pay attention to what happenes behidn your finger.

because its a compairson between gears and MGS numnuts lol but i think gears looks better but having played it and not mgs4 im willing to put money down that MGS4 has a better single player experince anyways :)

But that part on the bike in MGS4 has got to be the best looking sequence on any console game, crysis had a rail-shoot bit but tbh it didn't look half as good as this bit. Awesome, simply brilliant.

not really, even on MGO. its your screen size that makes the difference maybe you are playing at a lower res or something.

But yes gears is simple yet effective, MGS4 is the anti-christ to GeOW, which is a good thing if you like both sides of the spectrum :D

I dont know if it will look good, its taken with the in game camera from an SD TV. (The game lets you take pics using controller 2 and then upload them to the PS3 as a JPEG)

the only reason anyone is comparing them is because lemmings are having a hard time gripping that they dont have the best looking game anymore...

I can't speak categorically to the ability of lemmings to grip with an issue. Attempting to reach a final conclusion regarding "what looks better" as an "undisputed fact" is an exercise in futility. Opinions and tastes are subjective. Anonymous people trying to convince other anonymous people to accept their opinions is a colossal exercise in irrelevance.

I was merely alluding to the fact that Gears is often held up as a benchmark for comparison with new releases. Due to the fact that Gears was released in November 2006, it must be pretty salty if it is continually being viewed as the standard when new games are released.

Uncharted looks better than GEARS so i have no clue why GEARS is even being compared to MGS4 lol.

A strong point to notice is that Gears looks amazing in stills, specially the PC counterpart due to the high fidelity of the prtScr key compared to the tool in MGS 4. MGS 4 looks a lot better though when you actually see it in the screen, be it in still form or not. But Gears has done a great job at not getting far behind.

I dunno, for a game that's almost 2 years older, Gears of War stacks up pretty well. Solid though definetely has the edge in more dynamic explosions and particles and such.

Both kick ass visually and gameplay wise as it stands.

Yeah, it would be nice that aside from the camera option we could record video directly. At least the camera offers a nice option (by controlling it from a 2nd controller) which allows you to take in game pics while playing.

True, but how far could the 360 go graphically? TBH Gears 2 doesn't have a HUGE leap over other games comparing to Gears 1 when it first came out. Although Gears 2 looks AWESOME much like Gears 1 was back then. But the details found in MGS4 gameplay, cutscenes and storyline destroys Gears. Does it mean Gears is a bad game? No. It's just limited comparing to MGS4 when it comes to weapons, customizations, items, secret weapons, easter eggs, jokes, unlockables, storyline, music, creative boss fights etc...

Heres my contribution towards MGS4. I took these pics with the camera within the game and exported the images.
