http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/ace-combat-assault-horizon/review.html?tag=summary%3Bread-review

It seems that all of the pretty graphics, amazing soundtrack, and explosions can't save a game with terrible gameplay. I knew this was going to happen after the demo. The game is pretty much on rails the whole time, there is nothing to the gameplay anymore. They wanted the gameplay to be cinematic, what they gave us was pretty much "hit X to win" for a few hours.

As the fan of the series I can say Ace Combat is officially dead. Very little chance they'll go back to their roots after this mess and low sales will force them down.

I'll still be buying as i've said many a time reviews dont deter me, i'll scan over the review later and have a chuckle from the pros and cons seems like he played it on a low difficulty.

EDIT: this games been scoring 8's across the board elsewhere so what the fudge :S

After the disappointment that was HAWX 2, I was hoping Ace Combat would make up for it, apparently not.

Thread title should be "AC: AH just scored ACE review".

Well, I didn't see this coming. I thought it'll get at least 7.5.

After the demo, I refuse to believe that the game is AA quality. Gamespot said EVERYTHING that I knew was going to be wrong with this game after the demo.

They stripped out the little depth the game series had in favor of on-rails everything. You dogfight on rails, you attack ground targets on rails, you do bombing missions that are completely on rails, you have 2 on-rails chopper missions. They stopped giving you any control over the game. Then they got rid of the unique world, any shred of a unique story, and all of the super weapons.

This isn't even CoD in the sky, because at least CoD lets you freaken play it.

Joystiq gave the game 4.5/5 http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/ace-combat-assault-horizon-review/ "You have to play this game." interesting, thats a big difference in scores. Metacritic has 77.hummer700

How can you have to play this game if it's on rails 90% of the time? I don't get it. I know that Joystiq loves their CoD more than life, so that must have a lot to do with it.

I refuse to support a game that takes that much control away from the player.

Gameplay hollow and repetative....thats been part of AC since the first iteration if you really think hard bout it lock on shoot, drop bomb on x target etc etc

"Even landing is a minigame in which you just hover a cursor in the right place." thats been in there since Ace combat 4 essettially unless VanOrd would like to shed some light on this if its what im thinking this is a part that has been on AC since 4.:S

The Modern Warfare series' influence on the game is painfully obvious-I'll give them that, but at the same time its always been a parody of the real world anyway in the essence of the Yukes being Russia,Belka being Germany etc.

Least the online seems strong which was my main worry for most of the part to be brutally honest.

From what i've disected of the review is mostly baww about the Dogfighting mode (which should be optional now i think bout it) and the helo stuff (but essentially at the same time heli's have a diffrent control and system mechanism which should be noted and on top of that should apache be compared to an FPS as it shares a similar control scheme?

I'll still be buying it i've had it preordered i'll really wait til friday to pass judgement if this game goes **** up im going on AC's facebook page and outright demanding least a AC5 and 0 HD remaster to make up for it.

If the online is fun then it'll be a quick blast of the story, online then a mop up for a 1000g.

It's obvious he's a real Ace Combat fan. Dogfight mode should not be in the game, period. You should never be able to just lock onto a target and have the plane fly for you. That is a disgrace to the series. The series has been knocked for it's repetitive gameplay and I thought that some on-rails missions and helocoptor missions would make up for that, but after the gameplay, the helo mission was boring and the general gameplay of the planes was terrible.

You ever thought of changing the controls to ORIGINAL, yet? It becomes another AC game...well, until you go into Dogfight mode again.

Looking at the AA reviews on other sites I think Wasdie's theory that the reviewer was an Ace Combat fan is probably correct. I know I would have given Super Smash Bros. Brawl a similar score.

i know that as i've said i would be happy for BAMCO (who seem to be much like Capcom in destroying good franchises this gen) to just add the simple option of turning it off.

I can see them running with their tail between their legs and im planning a massive rant for their Fb page on friday if this doesnt live up to my expectations which even more On rails boming makes me want to puke now i've read it, im a huge fan i'll still buy it if its taking the piss i wont have no worries in selling it and waiting for BAMCO to get Project aces off following CoD.

People this gen are so easily bought over by modern military hardware and explosions to not understand when there is no depth in the game.

I mean look at Black Ops. That game had so many pointless on-rails sequences, so many "hit button to advance", and tons of other really shallow gameplay elements yet it was bathed in explosions and weird looking, semi-modern military weaponry. Even though the story was confusing and pointless, the gameplay was more shallow than any of the previous CoDs, and the online was a rinse and repeate of every previous game in the series, it got AAA across the board.

Gamespot is the only one giving the game a bad score, This seems to me like another Castlevania Scenario. I tried the game is pretty good. This review seems to be a bit hateful and harsh. It's not a reliable review, if you're into dogfights and ace combat maybe rent it and follow up on your own impressions. I never played an Ace Combat before this one but this review seems to have been written by someone that has been spoiled recently by a really good game.

I feel like people are becoming entitled babies these days. Having just got the game and choosing to use it, I wouldn't know but does the game FORCE you into dogfight mode? I'm pretty certain they said you don't HAVE to use it. Much like that dumb compass fiasco in Oblivion.AncientDozer

Yeah it does force you into dogfight mode quite often. It's the only way to destroy mission critical targets which pop up quite frequently.

Also the bomber missions are totally on rails, and the on-rails shooting sections when you're in a blackhawk have massive amount of auto aim you can't turn off.

yes any TGT_Lead can only be taken out with a CRAS manouver aka press LB and RB for instant CoDlike retarded win.

Im toying with paying £40 for a sealed copy of 5 instead on payday.I'll buy this if its crap i'll be launching it and trading it in towards Dark souls.

I haven't played an Ace Combat game before. I thought the Demo was fun and the camera style is amazing. So there you go. If you're not already invested in the series it's enjoyable. Still I'm not buying this at launch. I'll wait till I can get it for $15 used or $20 new.

I loved the demo. I don't see what the problem is. I liked Ace Combat 6 and I know some people complained about that, too. I loved most of the Ace Combat games. But then I was never a challenge whore that needed a game that forced me to pull out my hair. I think the reign of challenge "seekers" (it seems more like demanders) is at an end. Well, more like it has ended already but people just haven't accepted that.

You seem to have a problem with hard games, looking at your past posts and this one. I honestly don't see why you seem to care about "challenge whores".

I am still getting it. Some user reviews are calling it the best yet. other sites are a lot more positive. I love the series and am just glad of a new game with jet fighters as the focus to be honest. the dfm, in the demo did not put me off like I expected it to. sts106mat

I was reading some of them, those weren't fans of the series who called it the best so they think it's awesome.

I don't understand why so many people like their games to be "hit X to win." This generation is making me very sad to be a gamer. There is no challenge anymore, we might as well be watching movies.

Lemme see..

I am still trying to platinum Shadow of the Colosus, i got the first Crysis for PS3, and i am playing Chrono Trigger for the frist time.

plus i have Batman next week, and Battlefield3, Uncharted 3, MGS Pack and Assassin's coming afterward.

I can afford to wiat for the price to inevitably crash.

Wait, you won't buy it based on the fact it flopped at GS?

A few things. 1. I'm buying Forza 4 even though it flopped, so I don't care even if a game does flop. 2. What was the hype on this game? And 3. I didn't say I wouldn't buy it, I'm just not gonna get it anytime soon. Too many other games. I might get it once the price goes down.
