I hate achievements, they bring you nothing but trouble. How can consoles become such complicated machines from using convenient easy memory cards in the past. My brothers ps3 broke and all of his savefiles are gone now, he cant get them back if he uses a new one. Consoles especially break very fast in this generation since they using cds, the ps3 has all ready 10% failure rate. Do you really think that the ps3 that sony makes will last 7 years? All ps3 gamers pretty much game for nothing since their consoles will break some day, all your save files will be gone except for the trophies which give you nothing. I think you can do a backup file but how you are supposed to backup if your console is broken.
I dont know how it looks on xbox but i dont think its that much better since i have read people complaining about that too. Not every game allows you to copy save files. Also PC gaming faces these problems, of course not all titles only the games that using windows life. I lost two save games from lost planet colonies with level 40 both before i realized that you cant copy your save files cuz of achievement policy. I am 100 now but i wont format this hd now if i might switch to another windows. But like i said its only these live games the rest of the pc games work just fine. They have maybe no achievements but your save files are save, just make sure to read the readme and look for the internet to know where the save file is and if its really usable after cleaning.
The best way achievements work are surprisingly on blizzard games like starcraft2. All achievements are saved online and you can copy your save files to any device and play on both machines at the same time. There is no problem if you play on the desktop and on the laptop for example. That something you cant do on 360, one of the consoles would lose right to earn any new achievements. Thats why i am gaming mainly on pc now, all the games have different way of online gaming, not all are using the same interface and the same troubles.
