Speaking earlier, Kotick had this to say:

"Today, we'll sell you for $100 a guitar. You might add a microphone or drums, you might buy two or three expansions packs, different types of music. Over the life of your ownership you'll probably buy around 25 additional song packs in digital downloads. So, what used to be a $50 sale is a $500 sale today."

Despite having Blizzard on the team Activision still lost a ton of money last year. They like money but they sure don't know how to manage it.

It's clever business and if gamers don't like this they should really think about things like this when they buy their games and consoles. When I bought my 400 dollar launch 20GB PS3, even though it was 100 dollars more expensive then the 360 I knew that a couple Live memberships would balance the price and exceed it over time. The same goes with my games. I don't buy any games based on DLC. If I cannot be fully satisfied by what's on the disk, DLC won't change that and I would only buy DLC for games that have long long replay value. Not worth investing more money in a game I will get sick of in a short amount of time and trade. I am just glad that Guitar Hero has competition to keep them in check, otherwise they would just run wild milking the heck out of us with crazy prices.

Didn't know that.

I need to dig up a link, and I will, but I am sure you can just google it. What I really hated about this whole they bought Blizzard deal was a statement they made (again you can just google it) that wassomething along the lines of "you can expect one big release a year from Blizzard". The days of Blizzard releasing a game "when it's done" will soon be over. Is it a coincidence that just after both SC II and Diable III were announced?

Also, not long after they picked up Blizzard WoW began allowing PvE-PvP transfers and now they even allow you to pay thirty dollars for a faction change. Blizzard has no integrity left and I expect SC and Diablo to be the last truly good games they produce. You can bet your ass that Activision would love to release a new Star Craft every other year.

If you hate this guy so much then why are you going to give him any money, that just proves he has control over you. Wait a month at most and pick the game up 2nd hand

Activision still lost money, even with Blizzard.

I don't how to make a link on this forum, or even if I can with a low post count but.....http://gaming.freedomblogging.com/2009/02/11/wow-contributes-1-billion-to-activision-blizzards-sales/1639/does that work?

Anyway, I am 90% positive I first saw that story here at GS but I can't find it so......

I just can't find a quality source for that information which makes me sad because until I do I can't stand behind it 100%. Still, it's gotta be here on Gamespot if it's true because I am so certain I saw it here and the link I posted is NOT where I found that information.

Until MW3 and MW4 etc. The reason he acts the way he acts and wants to charge 70-100$ a game is because people will continue to buy them no matter what. It's technically a monopoly.

Edit: Even this is not the original story I saw but as I am at work I can't really piss away too much time researching this one.

I will be doing my best to avoid activision titles. This guy is probably the biggest tool I have ever seen. Guitar Hero will fail eventually and his precious little cash cow will be no more. I guess he fails to realize that the market is absolutelyover saturatedwithrhythm titles and people arent going to keep shelling out money for crappy tracks.

Ok, I swear after this link I will stop looking into thisand focus on what I should be doing but I couldn't help it. Mostly because PC gamers (not all, but a lot; but not me) still see Blizzard through rose colored glasses. This one speaks to the "we can expect one big title a year from Blizzard"

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/activision-blizzard-predicts-console-sales-in-2009-promises-one/ Again, not the original source I saw way back whenever but same point.

I mean its ok to like money, its just sad that even though they flaunt how they make their money, people flock to their games even when there are TONS of substitutes that are just as good if not better.

Who are the PC gamers among usthat won't be buying Diablo 3 and SC II, though? I am not an RTS fan so I can resist SC II but as far as Diablo 3 goes; give it to me NOW!

Still, I like Titan Quest better then Diablo 2 *takes cover*

Edit: Not that TQ isn't a Diablo clone it's just such a damn good one. I still play that game. To bad the community is all cheaters and a-holes.

If people are will to spend $500 on fake plastic guitars and song downloads, then there's nothing wrong with Activision being there to give them what they want.

Personally I don't find myself in that crowd.

He's like the perfect internet troll. He says anything he wants and everybody gets all pissed. It's hilarious. I can't believe how easily this guy gets under everyones skin. Kotick realizes the people that read these quotes of his make up the smallest percentage of potential buyers for his game.

He probably laughs at people who take it so seriously.

Here's another perspective:

From X Console Manufacturer:

"Today, we'll sell you for $300 a console. You might add a second joystick or headset, you might buy 10 or 15 games, different types of accessories. Over the life of your ownership you'll probably buy around 25 digital downloads. So, what used to be a $300 sale is a $2500 sale today."

As a customer, Bobby Kotick's wet dreams of hoovering cash directly from my wallet don't concern me, so long as they can provide something of value. When that stops, so does the stream of cash. EA's pretty hungry for revenue as well, but for the most part, they understand that they have to deliver a solid product, or occasionally make something crap and hope people don't notice (cheat codes as DLC, for instance).

Now, if I were a shareholder, I'd be pissed that this guy was destroying the long-term future of the company for short-term profit.
