This is what happens when a game is good, but you become greedy and drive it into the ground by making identical sequals way to freaking much simply to scam people out of their money.
DEATH TO CALL OF DUTY!!!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
For me, what started off as a counter-strike obsession easily transferred over to the very first Modern Warfare (Call of Duty 4).
I've reached 10th prestige in every subsequent installment ranging from World at War all the way to Black Ops (I've only prestiged once in Modern Warfare 3 so far)
The past month has been my first time dealing with the Battlefield series, and I absolutely understand why people fervently believe in it, and I also absolutely understand why people fervently detest it. BF3 is an entirely different beast.
My first few days with it was spent in utter frustration, and I think it might have been because I tried playing it the same way I play MW3. It just doesn't work, and this is exactly where CoD fans come off from. The game is harder for us. Rocket explosions can kill you if they blow up against the thin wall you're hiding behind. This is realistic, but a lot of people are turned off by the new challenges that realism brings.
For instance: Expert snipers can easily be outed even if they're holed up behind some apartment window. All it takes is one RPG to the wall of the 4th story apartment, and if the initial blast doesn't kill him because he scrambled away from the window, the sniper is pretty much left helpless with no more cover and exposed because the entire wall crumbled and left a huge gaping hole for your squad to see him.
This alone will discourage die-hard snipers and quick-scopers of CoD. They hate the game because they cannot cheese. This is just one example out of many examples on how BF3 feels inherently different. A lot of people don't like the idea of their cover being slowly chipped away by bullets and explosions. It's too real.
The sense of scale is vastly different too. A lot of CoD players prefer small maps to run amuck in. They'll quickly be turned off by the massive scale in BF3 environments.
I'm not saying BF3 is a bad game. I'm realizing that I'm starting to play it more and more, and really, I can see myself eventually growing tired of CoD just as I grew tired of Counter-Strike. I think I choose BF3 as my next point of interest. I really hope that people looking for something a bit deeper than CoD will just give BF3 a fair chance and spend as much time as I'm starting to... Because really, I think I see why a lot of people switch over and have a hard time coming back. It's a much more rewarding game if you play it the right way.

It takes a lot to get into gaming...Part of that is a true love for gaming in general.Maybe some high ups only care about in money in some companies. But I think you would find that many developers love their jobs.GameSpot forums have driven these threads into the ground

Pretty much this.
At this point the people complaining are just beating a dead horse. The people who love it don't care, Activision doesn't care, and its preaching to the choir of haters.
These Anti-Call of Duty threads to getting be almost as repetitive as the "OMG SKYRIM IS BEST GAME EVER" threads.
Eh, I'm enjoying MW3.Ravensmash

While I agree to some extent, it's not entirely true.
If it was, every developer would intentionally make games that appeal to a larger audience.
