An environment artist, who's name we are withholding for privacy reasons, has listed Adrift as an 'AAA action adventure game for the PS3, publish[ed] by Sony Computer Entertainment. You can see for yourself below.

The game has been in development for a number of years now, by a small 80-man team at DONTNOD Entertainment, who are hiring for an Animator on an 'AAA next gen title for a great publisher'. The game was apparently meant to be revealed at GDC 2009.

Previously, the game had been listed as both a PS3 and Xbox 360 game, such as here. It is likely that Sony took on the role of publisher in return for PS3 exclusive rights.

While nothing is actually given away about the game, with a title such as 'Adrift' expect a water-focused, plot-heavy experience. With Sony publishing, it's a good bet that new technologies like 3D and Move will also be included.

NOTE: The term 'AAA' refers to a game with a large budget, and one that is high in priority on the publisher's schedule.

Thats ok Sony made some PC games. They don't care just aslong as it isn't on the 360.

Well, the game hasn't been announced yet so we don't know.

The premise sounds interesting though, I'll take anything besides another shooter at this time.

Expect fluid dynamics, and Frenchness. This studio appears to be quite French.

This is old news actually.
I don't know how true this is any longer, but they were working on two projects two years ago. So I guess that old news could be in relation to the unannounced project? In which case this thread wouldn't be old news and there could possibly be two PS3 exclusive games. But I'd wager on the old unannounced game having been put on ice/canned at some point. Anyway, ramble ramble.

Hmmm, never heard of the game or dev.

Sony can, and has, published a multiplatform game (Ghostbusters in Europe I think). Publishing doesn't = exclusivity. Exclusivity is more likely the earlier in development the project is/the more desperate for money the developers are. If the game is pretty far along in development, and on both consoles, there would be very little benefit to making a deal for exclusivity.

A number of different scenarios could be going on, but here's one possibility:

This game was supposed to be unveiled at GDC 2009, which makes it 3 years late. Their publisher may have pulled support due to a lack of progress. Sony sees this, likes the concept and thinks they can provide proper managment to the chaos, so they pick up the PS3 version. While this would technically make the game exclusive as of now, another publisher simply needs to pick up the 360 costs for that version to be coming again.

In any event, I wouldn't get too excited about this game based off this information.

DONTNOD is proud to announce the signing of a co-production contract with SCEE to develop a Blu-ray game for the PlayStation 3. It will give birth to a new IP in an innovation-driven industry!dontnodcom

Develop: Are you looking for publishers to sign your game?

Yes. We will present our game at GDC this month.

Though the preproduction is independently financed, we believe that the creative visions of the developer and the publisher have to meet up as soon as possible, preferably in preproduction.

Our experience is that the sooner the publisher is involved, the safer the development process is. Having the publisher on board from the beginning also facilitates building a strong marketing strategy.Develop

That's ridiculous on so many levels. For starters, Remedy decides how to design Alan Wake, they're an independant developer.

McStrongfast

I'm guessing he's referring to the game going from open world to linear.

"Certainly, there were prototypes we tested and weren't happy with and didn't end up as part of what Alan Wake is – for example, we even had sandbox elements in there. With them, we were constantly running into situations where we had to make big compromises with out thriller pacing and storytelling."

You guessed wrong. It had more to do with this-

This week at GDC 2011 during a panel on Alan Wake Computer and Video Games asked Remedy's head man Markus Maki about the canceled PC port. However Maki still is keeping most of the reasons close to the chest, saying, "I can't really discuss that. I will say that it wasn't a technological call. And it wasn't made in Finland."

Cancelling the PC version equals crippling the game? Then I guess Sony isn't a very good choice either.

Yeah, great news... What's the game about? Ah, you don't know, too bad. There's no need to hype new exclusives, sony already kills MS and ninty on that side. It could be a good game, as it could be a terrible game, we don't know a thing about it...

It appears to be a story focusedFrenchaction/adventure set in the near future which incorporates fluid dynamics technology in some fashion. It has been in development for over two years.

Also there's a character named Edge.
