Which is hilarious, because the NPD indicates that a large portion of CHILDREN auctually STARTED gaming on the PC. http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7559&Itemid=2
That's because everyone has a PC and most kids websites (or websites that market kids products) have crappy little free games. This leads to free shareware titles.
I doubt kids get their start by upgrading their parents PC and then saving money for Crysis.

I'm convinced that kids are smarter than teens/adults. You don't need to upgrade your parents pc to play crysis, if your parents bought a pc in the last few years you will be able to play crysis.
Look at the orange Box. I run that game on high settings @ 1440x900 and my system is 3 years old.
I started on the NES.
Until the N64 came out it was mostly an NES/PC combo. PC is only complicated if you don't ever try to learn. Most people just get someone else to do stuff for them.

LOL That is so true. If people can put together Lego then they can put together a pc....as long as you have the right screw driver.
A 20 minute session on wikipedia would tell people almost everything they need to know on how everything works and what everything means.
Then its all common sense from there.
With system now done for Mister and Madam X, I find it uterly funny to see these kind of statements.
Look, I listen to music, listen to all the shows I want, I'm playing games and I work on my PC... damnit, only sore losers are still listening to normal TV with the damn publicities... I gave up on TV a long time ago... and I will never go back.

Especially since all computers come with capable video cards. In the 90s that was the case but not anymore.
What? Do you mean that you could run lots of games easy but... now its harder to run every new game? If so thats how i feel lolNo the previous poster said if you bought a PC 3 years ago you can play Crysis as if all computers come with capable video cards. There was a time when you didn't need high end video cards to play the latest games but that has since changed. I played UT on a P3 500mhz PC with 8mb video ram just fine.
Pc games would be a lot more popular if onboard video could play them.

Any decent pc bought in the last 3 years is capable of running any Blizzard, Maxis or Valve games. Everything else requires a GPU, but only budget laptops suffer from that.

WOW or Half Life 2 can play on onboard video and that is one of the reasons why they are the most popular PC games in the world. Including The Sims.
True, sometimes I wonder why more devs can't see that. Still Maxis, Blizzard and Valve can offer enough games to keep any gamer happy.
I started on the PC, and it's still to this date my favorite platform (been gaming for maannyy years).
What I don't get, is why people don't give PC gaming a chance. They complain about how expensive it is and all that garbage, but IMO, it's worth it for what you get.
I also don't believe people give it a chance. They call it "complicated". It's not. I learned when I was 7 how to assemble a PC, and it only took me 3-4 days to really get the hang of it. It's not difficult if you give it a chance, and try to learn.

When their parents bought their PC's I really doubt they bought a state of the art graphics card along with it. More than likely, their parents have some integrated graphics chip in their computer, which will get demolished by crysis no matter how old it is.
PC gaming surely is a few echelons above console gaming in terms of complexity but that's what knowledgeable friends and the internet are for. Hexagon_777
Aaah, PCs. Helping people who wouldn't ordinarly be your friend make friends since 1981.
Aaah, Cars. Helping people with dirty greasy hands make friends since 1912.
Never hurts to have a social network of people to do things for you :)

More and more companies are starting to have third party graphics cards out of the box. There aren't nearly as many integrated desktops as there used to be. Thats more laptop.WTF?This is how it went for me.Attari,NES,SNES,PC,SEGA,SEGA Saturn,n64,DC,PS,Xbox,PS2>>soon Newly built PC and PS3 heh.The funny thing is,It was my mom that tought me to play the Attari,NES while my dad tought me to learn the PC.Everything else from that on became natural to play and have fun.
I started on NES and moved on to N64 and Xbox before I tried PC gaming. And it's not complicated.
horgen123
So it gets more complicated as you grow older?
I first started gaming on a N64, fun times!!!!!
Computers are not complicated (if It's in a good mood) I hate it when so and so happens like this program has performed an illegal action and must be terminated we are sorry for this.....I hate that message!!! Or it just crashes back to the desktop, and I don't know what is wrong with it.....
(Has anyone ever had this message, Saying "XIXX875686X784:>>34 Invaild" And the screen turns black?) Wonder if this is a computer killer....

Are you making fun of a stereotype? I'm not just friends with my friends because they are knowledgeable when it comes to computers if you're implying that.

You are giving people way to much credit.
I know some very smart people who are to lazy to learn something new if it takes them 20 minutes,
Sad,

I wouldn't say smarter, just more willing to learn new things.
I just got Into PC gaming (Just got Half Life 1), I started with the SNES. So far, I really dont like KB+MouseHat_Damage
than use a controller. You don't need to be genius to understand that the control argument is a stupid as system wars gets. You can even use the Wii-mote on your pc.....

As soon as more games follow the way of Shadow Run (Where PC players can play Console Players) and all the console gamers get mopped, you will come to love the mouse and keyboard.

That's not even close to true. It really depends what kind of system they bought and for what purpose. Mine is strictly a media PC. I've only had it a year and I can barely run Neverwinter Nights. Not all PCs come standard with current-gen 3D graphics cards.

That's because everyone has a PC and most kids websites (or websites that market kids products) have crappy little free games. Not all PCs come standard with current-gen 3D graphics cards.I think I may have been quick to judge the current market. Because in my time as a kid, you would buy a pc and it would play games. But now parrents are given way to many choices and games aren't always made for that, but I can assure you that your PC still plays a VERY large majority of games.
Just not the poorly optimized ones like NWN2.
