Famitsu has confirmed that Afrika will be arriving on the PS3 in August 28, 2008.

You are a photographer, who takes photo's of the animals using Jeeps, Hot Air Ballons and more to get the perfect photo's.

So it is going to be an extremely unique game. Gameplay may not be what most want, but I'm not going to bash it for purposely being the way it is to achieve its goal.

Im not even sure or it will make it to the US. It prolly will eventually but I dont think the demand is that high. But I can see japan loving this type of game since japan is more of a relax gaming industry that aint really into shooters or GYA type games. I wouldnt mind trying it out but id prolly rent it first unless they give us a demo. Looks gorgeous though.

That time I said I wanted an entire game like the Photography from dead rising?

After thinking, it turns out I don't.

Basically, it's Pokemon Snap except with animals :)

But yeah, I'm looking forward to this game. I hope it's not just about taking pictures. I want info and stuff regarding the animals I photograph.

Im really hoping this games comes to Europe, or atleast has English subs for the Japanese version so I can import it! It sure would make a nice change from most of the games we get this generation.

Well at least we have some info on what you can do in the game. Looks like a glorified pokemon snap, which I didn't give much of my interest to...

Still, unlike Pokemon Snap, this definitely has me interested. Just as long as they give the character freedom, instead of a rail photo-shooting sequences, could be really good actually.

Totally agree, maybe we will find out more at e3 or even this week since we are getting more info on it. Would love to see more gameplay footage.

Well, we all know that from what we have seen, it sure looks good. It is just too bad that they did not make it where you start off as a humble photojournalist who went to Africa on a wildlife assignment, only to end up crashing in the middle of some African bush. If that wasn't enough, you barely have enough supplies to from the plane crash to start out with, maybe a gun, a machete, a few med packs, and your trusty camera.

As you are trying to find your way into the bush in order to find help, you happen to stumble upon a military looking type compound where you enter, only to be immediately shot at with sirens blaring. As the story progresses, and you run for your life in survival mode, you eventually discover that you stumbled upon a secret, underground government black project that is about 10 x worse than something out of the straight out of 'The Island of Dr. Moreau' crossed with advanced technology experiments that is akin to something straight out of Area-51.

A genetic manipulation, advanced super soldier program is underway with technologies on display that are unlike anything anyone has ever seen being developed and tested in this middle of nowhere, God forsaken place.....and you discovered it during your search for help after your plane crashed. You decide to discover the truth and origin of all of this in order to expose them. You figure you have no choice as a photojournalist, as it is the story of monumental proportions. And besides, you want your payday, lol.

You know, a survival horror of sorts, with a sci-fi twist set in middle of a remote African landscape. Something along these lines would have gotten my attention, but as it is, it just looks like a lame photography sim. Too bad.

Uh, the only thing similar to Resident Evil 5 would be that it is in Africa. The plot I laid out has no reference to RE5 at all. Beings that the game is called "Africa", I merely expounded on what I thought would have made it more appealing being set in Africa, rather than just making some phtoagraphy sim.

No one is saying it is going to be an AAA title but one thing for sure is u can see already the differences between MS and Sony. They may seem like they both go for the same crowd but u can see sony doing what they have always done and that is bringing all types of genre of games to its library. This game might not be nothing special to us but it is opening the ps3 library to new genre's of gaming. Like I said before the game looks interesting and has great graphics but its something I never tried out before and would prolly have to rent it before seeing or it would appeal to my satisfaction.

Sure the game probably has no story at all. But I don't think the above would fit well with a game like Afrika :P . In all seriousness, themes like military huddled with sci-fi is something the video games industry has more than enough already.

The only thing close to a story you will probably get here is from the wildlife itself. And while that may be laughable, I would still find a simple thing like a lioness protecting its cubs to be a more interesting theme than 98% of any game storyline out there  .

The Winner...

(unless its Nation Geographic: Escape From Latin American Prisons...that would be awesome)

I highly doubt this will be released outside of Japan or the Asia Region. There are many of these types of games dating all the way back to Saturn, that never saw the light of day outside of Japan.

I laugh at those PS3 fanboys listing this on some Ownage List of releases. I laugh like when I see Viva Pinata on a 360 Ownage List.

One of my favorite games on the Wii is Endless Ocean and it seems Africa is sort the same type of game it appears. A lot of people on this site lose focus of what many casual gamers want, and that's a chance to do something their normal lives don't allow them to. Be it guiding their favorite team to the Super Bowl via Madden, win the Daytona 500 via the EA Nascar series, be a Jedi in a star wars game, be a rock star in games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, win American Idol via games like Karaoke Revolution: American Idol, and in this case be a photographer in the African savannah. Not everyone games to get involved with a storyline, shoot something, get achievements, or as a hobby in and of itself.

It has Ken Kutargi, the hero, riding a Giraffe to fight Shigeru Miyamato who is a savage who crawls in the dirt and just draws Zelda everywhere and also smiting down the villainous Shane Kim.

Someone a little defensive this morning? How is it the crappiest game ever when you haven't played it - hell, you might even like it? :?

FYI, I play strategy games the most such as Civilizations IV, and recently been playing the new expansion to Galactic Civilizations II - games in which a lot find "boring". Hell, I've ever heard that Medieval II: Total War is "boring", yet I find it one of the greatest strategy games of all time. I'm sorry that I find that taking pictures of animals in Africa is boring. Excuse me. Sheesh!

i was being sarcastic because like you i have not played the game. your not sure if it all about only taking pictures. you also have to catch them as well. there is more than just taking pictures. i really don't now what this game is going to be like im just wondering how can it be boring if you have not played it yet.

That time I said I wanted an entire game like the Photography from dead rising?

After thinking, it turns out I don't.

thrones

lol

This game looks like its for a very select audience. I can't believe even in Japan it will do well.

Oh, I guess spotting sarcasm over the internet across text on a forum is not one of my attributes - my apologies. Afrika is a African safari simulator which sounds so very exciting, BUT WAIT! there's more - Gamers playing Afrika will assume the role of a photojournalist who will be able to take pictures of various wildlife by foot, jeep or air balloon. I guess you're right, this is one helluva exciting game! /sarcasm
