As my icon will tell u, I love halo. I don't love it at an unhealthy level though, I can admit it's flaws and that the series runs 99% on overhype. But I think nevertheless bungie did a great Job with this baby. Say what u want, but Halo is one of the founding fathers of console fps..........and now bungie is letting it go. They had said halo will be run by someone else after reach. This is why I think halo will now rest in peace after reach. Microsoft sees halo as it's chief money maker, an they will milk the hell out of it until it is too dry to go on. It's like giving away a well cared for baby to a pack of wolves. The wolves are hungry, and will eat as much meat of those bones as they can. ..........................halo games will continue after reach, but do you think thy should????????

if MS stays on a 3 year development cycle, it should be 'okay'

I'd guess the next Halo FPS titles will score 8s at best.

Halo is Bungie and Bungie is Halo IMO. I see nothing but fail coming from a new developer taking over the series since Bungie seems to at least put out a good entry (ODST) if they're not putting out a AAA calibur title.

Will Bungie do other halo games? No probably not but I'm guessing Microsoft will have another Dev working on Halo games for many years to follow, which could be a good or bad thing you never know how these type of things work out.

You do realize that MS created a studio strictly for maintaining the Halo ip, right? You have never heard of 343 Industries?

Yes I believe it can still be a fun and well made game after Bungie. 343 studios are ex Bungie, so I believe it will still deliver. Maybe not to the level that Bungie set, but I actually play games rated lower than 8.0 ...........I live in Crazytown, I know.

Halo is an already established franchise and will continue to sell in the millions. Just like resident evil or the FF series their original creators dont work on those projects anymore but they continue to do well because their established franchise's.

Yeah, brand name holds alot of weight but the two series you named have been decreasing in quality also in the eyes of many gamers.

I certainly hope it does. As much as I've enjoyed the Halo series, I don't want a studio other than Bungie to work on it and I sincerely hope that this is the last Halo game.

Its all about originatlity and what they can do to improve on the franchise. I mean if Nintendo can continue to make a Mario game that you are fighting the same boss for over 20 years, I think MS will do ok with Halo.

Depends. I kind of hope the games end after Reach. I mean, let it go out with style! The series has more than earned it's place in video game history, especially among shooters.

On the other hand, I will miss it. But I don't want the game's quality to decrease just to get more of them.

god no...its MSs mario...its a licence to print money. MS will have more halo for the 360 and their future consoles. hell they can just throw it epics way if they need a dev. should they? until they start going back to the drawing board with it.....no imho.

since halo 2 halo has been suffering the same problem that zelda TP suffered from...the formula is getting stale. if they do go back to the drawing board mind then i will be very interested. but until then ODST (which i thought was pretty bad..traded it in two days later) will be my last halo.

Not really the same. Bungie is Halo, and the Nintendo team that makes Mario is much the same as it was during the N64 days. And the beautiful thing about Mario is it can feel fresh almost every time. It's not constrained by a timeline or an overarching story, like Halo is.

I think people are a bit silly in assuming MS are just gonna milk it for all it's worth and leave it to dry - they know the reason it sells so much is mostly due to it's consistent quality, and if that factor is removed, it will be very bad for the Xbox brand. In short; I trust Microsoft. :)

I'd argue that the universe and story is a plus for Halo since they have so much canon to elaborate and explore.

That's true, but they are limited by having to be consistent in that cannon. Mario can be put into almost any setting, and it works, and it allows Nintendo to change the gameplay up with each installment. Am I making any sense?

Mario feels fresh? They have been doing the same thing for 20 years, the only difference is the landscape. You are still fighting Bowser, you are still jumping on villian's heads, you are still throwing turtle shells and you are still collecting stars or have some involvement with stars. Oh ya and collecting coins. If that is not stale then I don't know what is, I'm not saying the games are bad by the way. Like Mario no matter how differen't it is from its predecessor Halo has a huge following and simply when a new one comes out people want to play it.

if they keep it the way they are now, A new one every 2 or 3 years then I dont mind if they continue making them.

If they turn in Acti and have at least 4 different studios working on 4 different Halo games, releasing one every year, then it may as well die

Yeah, I see what you're saying.

Though I'm sure if MS wanted to make, say, a kart game in which Master chief and Cortana drive around on purple hovercraft's, they could easily enough label it a spin-off and non-canon.

Edit: Microsoft, if you're reading this, it wouldn't work. Okay. :P

I like the edit. :P I dunno, I'm sad to see it leave, but Reach will send it out with the band it deserves. And who knows, it's likely we'll get another Halo Wars (which is grossly underrated here). :P

There's actually a difference between the extended life of Mario, and Halo's potential extended life. With Mario games, it's pretty much always revolved around Mario himself, with the odd exception of a Luigi game, and sometimes Mario taking centre stage as part of a cast, like in the party and sports games. But still Mario is almost always a precense in a mario game.

With Halo on the other hand, Bungie stated several times that the Halo universe is much bigger than Master Chief. They said Halo 3 would be the end of his story, and thats the commitment they kept. Look at the games which followed;

Halo Wars - not only looking at a different historical period with a new cast, but also branching in a different genre
Halo ODST - centered around a different cast, just with some loose connections at the end (Sgt Johnson)
Halo Reach - yes the prequel to Halo CE, but still looking at the war from a new perspective of a different Spartan team

And there's still a great deal of lore in Halo's universe yet to be explored, from the Daprtans, to the marines and ODTS, to the Covenant, to the Forerunners. So really, while Halo games may (or may not) go on into the forseeable future, you cannot compare them to mario games that will be always recycling the same cast of characters. With Halo there is a plethora of characters, eras, and settings to explore, allowing the continuation of the series as a whole to remain diversifed and unique from its predecessors.

I dunno, Halo Wars, Halo Legends, Halo Waypoint and the Halo movie dont sit well with me. None of those projects had the same production values and passion put into them as any of Bungie's efforts, and the movie being canceled because they couldn't work out an agreement with Universal for who would get what share of the profits points towards a bad trend if you ask me.

The new devs could have some cool new ideas for the next halo, they could make it better.. or, they could rehash it to death, we dont know for sure so lets just wait and see.

[QUOTE="Lable1985"]Hopefully. It'd be nice to see bungie make something else that isn't a generic shooter wouldn't it.Ravensmash
Halo is the FPS that many try to be...

No if halo didn't come along fps's would be trying to be like Half life, and their multiplayers would be trying to be counter strike/team fortress. A which are much better games. I wish more ppl would rip off half life though. That way we'd have more clever things to do in shooters than to just run around tea bagging teh noobs.

I can honestly say I have never 'tea-bagged teh noobs' : \ I have however played a variety of confusing custom game types :P
