Well, if I recall, Halo 2 went up against MGS3, DMC4, and GTA:SA that year (2004) and the Xbox ended up outselling the PS2 that holiday season ;)

gears is just another savior for the xbox brand...nothing special.  Frankly, I pity the fools (lems) who are desperate to attack ps3 when it just launched.. when their system has been out a year and hasnt sold more.. let alone take advantage.  oh well, maybe the 3rd time is a charm for you guys.
