"When the game was released last week, the response was much greater than they had hoped for. The Steam release of Alan Wake for the PC and the title vaulted right to number one on Steam, which was very unexpected. The best news of all is that within the first 48 hours of release Remedy had sold enough copies to pay for the rest of the development of the PC version and the associated marketing costs. The PC version of Alan Wake will turn a profit for the company."

Imagine how good the game would have been (as shown by the PC version that they were working on that they demonstrated at intel's developer forum in 2006 ) before they scrapped all that tech and dumbed it down for the Xbox 360.

Hey, at least it's a lot better than Bulletstorm which LOST money for EPIC and it's publishers.

For the most part yeah,it´s usually always like that,people hating a game when it´s not on their platform and when it is,it´s suddenly great. See it all the time around these parts,especially with Crysis,that one was ridiculous lol.

Poping up the resolution in a ini file has no real costs involved, does it ? Obviouslty when you spend nothing you make a profit right away

I wonder why it took them 48 whole hours to turn profit with zero cost ?

eh theres more than that to it, you'd need to get the engine runnin on the DX API which is diffrent from the 360's slightly, bug test it, spec it up and improve the assets (which have been made better).

You do know that people that do all these jobs need paid right? but the game has been reoptimized and tweaked under the hood and thats more than just an ini file, im surprised we dont have laws for euthanisation sometimes when people act as stupid as you.

your using 360 API's....you would need to reoptimize the game to work with DX API's which would more than likely require reprogramming for your engine.Also i really doubt you make XBLA games considering your downright stupidity on here im surprised you can turn on your computer sometimes to be honest also wouldnt mind some recent screen caps with your forum name in it so put up or shut up.

None of those screens you posted when your saolin and also wouldnt mind some links to your blogs, work updates aswell and some screen caps with your forum name in a notepad.

Actually XNA provides me unified code, i have one code base for all of WP7, xbox and windows, i can run my game in all three platforms right now just by building it for a specific one and with some #IF statements in the code for the different controls

I agree partly that if you dont go with XNA, there may be some lower level stuff specific to 360 involved that would need porting or tweaking, i am not sure though since i only work on XNA level, not Direct X or below

And i dont know how Alan Wake is programmed either, but for sure would not cost much to port to PC

As for the higher asset thing, every developers is making games with high assets, they dont remake assets, just take to source one and fit it accordingly

You dont make models from start, models are made in high poly counts and adjusted for gaming later, same with maps

Developers rarely have to actually remake assets

Even for my 720p 2D game i output all my assets in 1080p just in case for example

I could post pics of my game, but 1. is work in progress, 2. is not fit to do in a forum, usually these things go to a website or journalists first

I do target mid to end summer though, so i can reveal it then and start with the marketing stuff until the whole game is done, which will take many more months anyway, plus i will have contacted publishers and have a better idea of how the game will progress

Also i would rather have the publisher advertise it and me actually focus on development

Personalyl if i was targetting this summer i would have had information least 6 months prior and a basic gameplay build by now to sell it.

I am targeting this summer to have a demo ready and seek a publisher, not to have the whole game ready

The demo is mostly ready though, i am doing the details and tweaking now, quests etc

I will try Microsoft first, then any other publishers that could get it to Live

Steam is indeed an option too

How would i seek a publisher before i have an actual playable demo ? Now i have better chances finding one and getting the financial backing to finish the whole game

Great news, that way we will get an Alan Wake 2 (closer to alan wake mechanichs, instead of American Nightmare).

Actually it should make a profit in the first few seconds, since they did not spend even one dollar making it

Poping up the resolution in a ini file has no real costs involved, does it ? Obviouslty when you spend nothing you make a profit right away

I wonder why it took them 48 whole hours to turn profit with zero cost ?

You must have really low opinion about Remedy if you think they were so incompetent they couldn't even change inif file so they hired outside developer to do it

I'm very happy that Remedy is making money and that more people get to play the game, but at the same time I'm annoyed that I have to wait for another patch before it'll work on my PC.
