looks like the recent aliens game is destined to flop...
game still looks great though
Reviews seem really mixed here. I'm getting a Zombi U vibe, where the reviewers who like their survival horror games to be slow paced and tension-building give the game a good score and those who just don't like the genre give it bad to mediocre scores.
Reminds of ZombiU's polarizing reception and that was a great horror game, hopefully this is the same.
I'm disappointed that the game is padded though, why the **** do developers not just say, "You know what, you might want a 20 hour game, but trust us, this shouldn't be that long" and make a complete experience that takes as long as it needs to. If you were making a film you wouldn't say "Oh, well this is a drama and most of them are 2 hours+ so let's pad it out with half an hour of shit to make up that time" so why do they do it in games?

The game is obviously way too long with too much filler. Nothing to do with liking the genre or not.

Metacritic is ranging from 76-82 right now. Obviously some critics did not view the "filler" the same as others.
AVP 2000 still the best use of then license then? Yes.
Never heard had high hopes for this. I feel sorry for the silly console gamers that dropped £50. Could have picked up AVP 2000 for about 1/5 of that and played a much superior game.
tut tut.
15 to 20 hours long with 1 single alien stalking your ass, probably ending up killing you 10+ times, which will probably end up making the Xeno more annoying than scary half way, plus alot of "puzzles", backtracking and walking?
I'm shocked. But then, when you rely on Androids as filler in an Alien game, something isn't 100% right

Androids have been pretty big parts of the Alien films. It would be disappointing to not have one in the game. It does sound like they used too many for my liking, though. Probably should have just put one android on the station and made him the villain.

True, but Xenos literally swarm and create hives to breed. Having multiple aliens and 1 or 2 androids going nuts would be fine.
Having it teh other way arond is just a weird design decision.
Honestly, i just seems they tried to make Isolation so much like the original movie in so many ways, that the disconnect and gap in game/movie format, combined with the huge difference is exposition lenght, made it for the worse.
I really just want my damm Predator game. I'm cranky
Exactly, games aren't fucking movies.
Be nice if Publishers and developers learned this at some point.
Instead of androids just have actual people that are for and against you in the game. There has always been a history in the Aliens universe of good and bad human characters.
Also, wow scores are all over the place. Eurogamer gave this a 9.
Holy shit really?

Wait........there's only one Alien? And you're fighting milk filled androids the rest of the time?

yep, by the nature of the AI Alien, how people approach the various situations will lead to a different experience for each of them.
Its doing ok on metacritic
Yeah it seems the scores are indicative of the experience people are having which is leading to these wild review scores.
@Animal-Mother: so tempted to buy this but I don't want to be burned by a bad game. Judging by some of the reviews it might just a difference in tastes of games. Who has played a good amount of this and where is Salt The Fries Twitch feed?
This this to be one of those very rare times IMO where the game is absolutely dependent on how the player experiences it.
I don't know. With sunset over drive coming very soon and evil within, i'm probably going to pass for now. But the reviews are telling a a tale of a decent game at worst.

From reviews, it seems you have 1 alien after you in the first part.
Then 1/3, or 1/4 in the middle mark is more of an Android part.
Then back to the xeno. Well, not cut and dry, obviously androids do show up with the alien, but something like this.
Still, they're obssesion with the movie was stupid. Should have added more aliens, plain and simple.
The movie wasn't 15 hours long after all
Still getting this day 1, the game may not be perfect but my gut tells me I will like this, based on everything I've seen it looks like fan service, and the reviews are all over the place I could care less what other people think about it.
IGN is the lowest score lol, that's something you don't see every day.
Not surprising though, it's from the same moron that gave Titanfall a 9 (McCaffrey), guy looks like a complete idiot.
I was really hoping this would be good... A 6, well its still something I want to try. Ill pick it up on a steam sale.
Seems like Farcry 4 and Borderlands Pre-Sequel being the only games I actually wanted is sadly paying off for me.

I'm trading a copy alongside with Star Citizen modules and CoH2, if you (or anyone else) are (is) interested.
I'll offer a good deal.
GameTrailers review was fantastic, I feel they did a better job than Kevin. The main issue with the game seems to be that there isn't enough alien and that he's much too easy to dispatch of later on with an overpowered flamethrower. The androids just aren't as interesting an enemy.
Actually reading destructoid review i'm convinced to buy the game. It seems the Alien A.I is great and it also while there are jump scares here and there the game seems to be building tension as you go through . It seems a good game with some noticable problems keeping it from been great . Hopefully it will be a 20-25euros discount on either Steam or another DD service by Christmas
Ok so I just watched the GT review and unlike many other reviewers they said that the game gets too easy(they said they played it on hard mode) later on and that the Alien can be frightened with the flame thrower, while other reviews have said that the game is hard as balls and that the flamethrower is useless. Man reviews are all over the place the one only consistency I can see is that the is a little too long and the parts only with the androids are weak. It seems like this game should have just been 7 to 8 hours and it would have been amazing. Regardless Im still going to say **** and get this game this its the Alien game I have always wanted and I am a massive fan on the original film even if the game is not great I still think that I will get some worthwhile enjoyment out of it.

You really didn't know? The first movie was one Alien, that's what they were going for with this. I'll save my money for Sunset Overdrive at the end of the month.
