"Many tens of millions. Including marketing. Think over forty, nearer sixty. Sega only got it for test mid last year. The seniors really ****** it up, they saw gearbx as being an amzing company and thought they had borderlans with aliens. They didnt think to check on it.
Yes, there will be legal ramiffications."

From a mod verified Sega employee (posts now deleted, but screenshots of them are at neogaf):

http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/18ndgq/i_was_a_tester_on_aliens_colonial_marines_ama/

How can anyone now deny that Gearbox did not siphon off huge portion of Aliens: CM's budget for things other than the game itself?

I feel bad for Sega in all of this. They seemed to have put way too much faith into Gearbox and got royally fvcked over. I'm interested to see if any legal action amount from all this.

I believe so, If Gearbox was under contract to develop the game and was given funds to make it but breached it by using the funds to cover their own needs instead. It's quite possible.

As I said from the other thread, this is a modern E.T. game

That's giving it too much credit.

And a 2002 game (AvP2, PC) is better, lulz...

If they're too incompetent to make a decent game they could have simply re-made AvP2 with better graphics and call it a day...

Pretty much this. If this is true, I hope there are legal ramifications for Gearbox.

People would still be calling it mediocre and/or garbage. Duke Nukem Forever - finished by Gearbox was sort-of Duke Nukem 3D with better graphics, and you saw how people reacted to it. Personally, from the game footage I've seen, in contrast to what's being said in the reviews, it seems like an ok game worth a purchase, just like the last AvP game. The fact that people review it with too much criticism for 'what it's missing' instead of what it provides only makes it easier for random internet posters to join along.

I feel like the game industry might die just because developers are pricing themselves out of competitiveness.

I wonder if sega could take some sort of legal action against gearbox, considering they outsourced most of the game development.

Kind of a bullsh!t move on gearboxes part.

having beat this game just last night, (it's only around 5-6 hours with repeated environments, you go back to hadleys hope alot)

That's just disgusting. If I was sega I would pursue legal action. The game plays and looks like a budget shooter, not a proper aliens game in the slightest.

Aliens 2010 is on another level compared to this, and even that game wasn't anywhere close to perfect.

That's a lot of wasted money. Just goes to show just how long the development cycle was. I hope to pick this up sometime at $20 or under, which shouldn't take too long.

You'd hope for high production values, if not a decent game, but Aliens: CM didn't even have that.

Considering the ip and the overall length of development, it sounds about right and isn't really that much.

Borderlands 2 was great though. That seems to be where all the budget for this game went :P
