[QUOTE="Rocker6"]

[QUOTE="ronvalencia"] Depends on PC DDR3 sticks e.g. a PC3-19200 DDR3 SDRAM module has a transfer rate of 19.2 GB/s. A dual channel mode a transfer rate of 38.4 GB/s.ronvalencia

Notice I said CHEAP sticks,which are always brought up in the RAM arguments...

Anything less than PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM in dual channel mode would have a noticeable drop in frame rates with AMD A6/A8/A10 APUs.

System memory transfer rates would not be a big issue with a discrete GPU card enabled PC e.g. my laptop.

Yeah,I read about that APU scaling in some reviews...

Still,since consoles don't have discrete GPUs,PC3-12800(1600Mhz) isn't fast enough for them.And by cheap RAM,I'm refering to 1600Mhz,that is the speed that always gets brought up in console discussions...

Next consoles will need something much faster,and of course,more expensive.The argument "RAM is cheap,why not?" falls flat...

Similarly named laptop specs are just that, similarly named, and do not reflect the actual power of the desktop components.

Depends, if they intend on playing CPU Intensive games (primarily RTS and Emulators) and stuff like video editing then yes. Otherwise they can settle for models that use Core i5 or Core i3. As I said with custom builts they you have full control over what you want, you can pair a GTX 680 with an AMD FX 4100 if you wanted. With prebuilts you have limited customizabilities unless you do them after market but it adds to the cost.

Sorry,makes no sense,I'm getting lost here...

X51 is marketed primarily as a GAMING PC is a console form factor.And give me ONE reason why would a GAMING PC have a "SKU" that contains an overkill of a CPU not needed in ANY game,and a gimped OEM GPU?

It's a heavily unbalanced system,made only to rip-off newcomers to PC gaming,who have larger budget,and severe lack of technical knowledge...

You can get models using Core i5 or Core i3, you're really only going to pay $100 if original wanted an i5 model and $200 if you originally wanted a core i3.

The GTX 555 which is in the model you're refering to can be consdered a gimped GTX 560 so it won't be as hot but will be a bit slower.

I consider the GTX 555 and Core i5 2320 to be the best option out of all of them. The CPU can be considered future proofing so the GPU is the only thing gamers need to bother with when they upgrade in the future. And it's not like you don't get any performance benefits out of it.

It's really up to the consumer, who actually has a Gaming PC but uses it ONLY for gaming?

Yes,that I5 SKU is mostly fine,I can agree with that(I still wouldn't consider it for myself,though),but the one in my other post isn't,it's very unbalanced,and a total rip-off...

That's about really the only problem with Alienwares they lack CPU customization. It should be more balanced once they switch to Kelper GPUs. But even then these days AlienWare seem to throw in some kind of discount or promo so it should make up for it. Earlier for the model you was pointing out, they came with free copies of Diablo 3 but that only lasted for a week.

Honestly, without the i7 and the Alienware brand tax, I don't see why Microsoft/Sony can't make a console with comparable stats to the X51. Hell, you can get into the X51 line for $699, which although is expensive, is only so because of the Alienware overcharge BS.

I mean, if people are expecting the new consoles to be $299 at release, they're delusional. Christ, the stupid iPhone most of you are using costs about $600 if you just buy it without a contract. Why wouldn't a powerful, and much more useful console cost at least in the at neighborhood?

I fully believe that the new consoles can match X51 performance at around the $450-$499 price range, and would give console gamers full 1080p gaming with a solid 30+FPS in most titles. Honestly, anything less than that will be a complete failure for the next gen consoles.

If you put laptop size parts into a consoles then it's going to be around 3-4 (more like 4) years behind PC in power. Most laptops run around the 100 Watt range. Given that 360 was at around 160-190 Watts and PS3 was at around 180-210 Watts at the time of release. I'm pretty sure if they did do laptop parts they could beef them up a bit because of the higher Watts they can play with. If they used beefy laptop esk parts then they would prob be around 2-3 years behind PC. Next year maybe we'll know... If they hide the specs of the CPU, RAM and GPU... Then the console is gonna suck.

It might be if consoles were about brute technical power.

How are you going to upgrade with only 330W?? Keep dreaming bro, you're delusional.

NoodleFighter

Considering each generation of hardware consumes less energy I'm sure he'll have no problem

The X51 Can be fitted with the GTX 670- sooo it's not like you can't upgrade it. My thoughts would be the cost, it's expensive to begin with. May as well go for a custom build with the 670 from the start.
