Can't get much more casual than shooters.
Gradius - Casual crap. Really why would you play it?
Ikaruga - The graphics are so terrible, and there are too many bullets, lulz wasup with that?
Metal Slug - Not enough blood, plus why do I seem to die every 2 seconds?
Contra - I don't understand how this game got high ratings, its terrible.
I'd say the other casual genre is beat-em-ups, final fight, streets of rage, etc. All casual crap.
(Learn the difference between FPS and shooters. I know shooters aren't mainstream any more, but they do exist.)
Not all of them are casual look at ArmaII.. Couth_It's not really just a shooter, is it? Squad elements and RTS bits in there too, yes? Anyway, I would still call it casual, because I'm an obstinate git.

Since he's referring to first person shooters and not SHMUPs lets just talk about FPSes. :s
Quiet you, I was just trying to include FPS and TPS together into one thread. You take you old tired games and play them on your old tired systems. Can't get much more casual than shooters.

Oh yeah, and whats up with platformers? Its just get mushroom jump on heads, fall to death, respawn dont fall to death jump on flag. AMIRITE?
Doesn't even stop there, sometimes you just run on occasions stop to jump in a portal to get some stupid jewel so you can become even MORE overpowered, then you have to face some doctor who really likes robots for some reason.
RE4, RE5, COD whatever, Halo, Killzone, Dead Space, all of them, yes, PC shooters too. They're all casual. It's just start character, get gun, shoot enemies. Die, get better at shooting enemies, move on. Kill bosses, shoot more enemies. Agree/DisagreeJandurinmaybe they are but your examples are terrible re5 and dead space are survival horror where it looks like a shooter but in fact the way they build suspence is to have you not shoot things...i don't even do survival games now because of that
What else is there? Goldeneye? Turok? Casual. No, just no. You could say that shooters post Gears of War (2006->) are 95% casual, with the exception of ArmA 2, STALKER SoC & Clear Sky.
Before that, only a handful of console shooters were casual.

And it's uber realistic/difficult gameplay
yes. casual. correct. not a shooter, though >_> unless we're talking about fireballs :lol:Oh yeah, and whats up with platformers? Its just get mushroom jump on heads, fall to death, respawn dont fall to death jump on flag. AMIRITE?

TC, let me guess, your first shooter was CoD4. Play an objective game in Halo 3, or 4v4 Killzone 2, or SOCOM or Resistance 2 Co Op on Superhuman. When a FPS is done right, it turns into an RTS. chaotzuYou are correct, sir. CoD4 is my first shooter. Wait, no, Wolf3D was :?

A game becomes casual when the developers make it casual, the FPS genre itself is not casual orientated.

Dead Space was a horror game. There is no arguing around that fact.SparkyProtocolwhat made it a horror game? The mutations? The way it completely resembled Event Horizon but in video game form? The fact that there were dead people talking to you?
[QUOTE="falconclan"]yes. casual. correct. not a shooter, though >_> unless we're talking about fireballs  Yes, well I'm not finished. Next up STEALTH.
Really whats up with stealth its all like hide, find out where to go next, hide some more, choke some guy out fight boss finish game LOL! No skill at all, and whats worse it that guns are involved and guns are casual and I hate casual things and anything that might make me look like a casual.

I'm NOT talking about console shooters, lol. They were pretty much always casual or just plain bad.
no, that's what I was going to do D= Except for the "crap" bit. I don't think any genre is crap at all. Sports games are boring, though, to me.I am setting out to prove every genre is casual crap.

Doom? LOL Doom 2? Hexen Hexic? Quake? Quake 2? Team Fortress Original? Half Life? HAH Even more casual than today's stuff :)Yes I agree, most shooters this generation are catered to the casual gamer. All the more reason to hate casuals. They bring nothing good to the industry. Only money to feed the developers greed an Bob Kotick's fat face.

Agree/Disagreewayne_karthey are games you can play casually if you so wish. but if you choose to invest a lot of time in them and play them everyday then they can be hardcore too. pretty much like all games really. this whole causal/hardcore **** is so dumb. The reason it is dumb though isn't because it exists, its because people think they know how to qualify. It is my belief that any genre can have its hardcore gamers, anyone who says otherwise isn't thinking it through, even sports titles have their awesome gamers.
Doesnt mean the games themselves are casual titles.skrat_01I don't really believe that games have inherent qualities of casual OR hardcore. They can be played in a way that can be described as casual or hardcore, though.
right. Though I don't even really buy into the casual vs. hardcore way of being played, either, but that's another thread.Like I said in another thread, games themselves cannot be casual or hardcore, it is the player who is variable.
...Namely, it is the manner in which the game is played.
Leejjohno
no, incorrect.Jandurin
Maybe if you only play on consoles, but PC has simulation games like America's Army that are most definitly not casual.

Neither do I really, but the variable is most definately the player regardless.
apparently there is no difference between casual and popular... the only hardcore games i guess are just some RTS for pc because every single other game is called casual now adays.
LOL RTS is probably the most casual out of all the genres. I mean all you do is direct units and build bases. Whats up with that, its like, you start with like 5 units, build a base, build 50 units, destroy your enemy and then its over? Like whats up with that. Totally casual crap.apparently there is no difference between casual and popular... the only hardcore games i guess are just some RTS for pc because every single other game is called casual now adays.
VendettaRed07
RTS' are casual too. Build farmers, build farms, build buildings, build footmen, build archers, upgrade footmen, upgrade archers, build defensive buildings and upgraded town center, attack, build advanced building, build next tier of footmen and archers, upgrade, build next level of center etc. etc. Mostly, just attack more than you get attacked :P It's harder for me to make RTS' sound casual. RPGs are easily done, though.apparently there is no difference between casual and popular... the only hardcore games i guess are just some RTS for pc because every single other game is called casual now adays.

D= What an odd game to bring into the argument :lol:Jandurin
Have you ever actually played it or are you just trolling?
It's an sim designed to recreate the experience on what it is like to be in the US army, recreating everything from gun jams to criminal punishment for behaviour. If that's casual to you then it tells me something about your credibility, your opinion is irrelevant.
i play ArmA 2 every other sunday for 20 mins. so its casual to mewayne_kar
How much you choose to play a game isn't an indicator of whether or not it is casual, Peggle doesn't suddenly become hardcore because you play it more often.

i
i tried playing some rts on pc for like 5 minutes and didnt really understand it or care to ever find out how to play it so i just stopped playing it. BUt anyways i seriously dont know what is not casual then

As you said, it's a simulation. I've never ever heard that game mentioned in anything but as a curiosity. It's still odd to me. The government making vicious games on one side and ranting about children and violent games on the other. Regardless, you can call your Army sim whatever you want, I won't argue about it.
