And all what Nintendo has to do is lower the Wii price by $50 and it will fly off the selves even faster than the PS3.phatkavI think it's cheap enough already. A price drop really isn't going to make much difference.

But if it becomes that cheap then even 360/PS3 owners will have no problem buying one. Â
But then they would be losing $300 per unit instead of $200.foxhound_foxSony said they'd be breaking even on manufacturing costs of ps3s by the Holiday season, so to drop the price by $100, thereby making them lose 4100 on every console sold, doesn't seem unreasonable.
If Sony does a price drop then M$ will do the same. With 360s superior game library it'll pwn PS-3 ;)anamnawshad
I wouldnt say superior. Are we forgetting PS3's Lair, warhawk, killzone, heavenly sword, ratchet and clank not including home and not including the great multiplats. Army of two, GTA IV and stranglehold Â
They already had a 500 dollar model.....
Do you people even think about what you post?

Even when the 20GB version was available, 90% of people still wanted the high-end package instead. People want the best from the PS3, so a $100 reduction of the 60GB version would be beneficial.
20GB =/= 60GB
Â
Halo 3 + GTA IV + Mass Effect + Lost Odyssey + Too Human + a price drop and I could on and on here. Lets just say I believe the 360 will dominate this holiday season rather easily.eastside49er
Â
dunno wii is cheap and will prob have a healthy stock pile, the kids will beg for one.
Â
Â
it'll be close.Â

Doubt it, if they start getting Cell produced by cheaper companies through outsourcing, they will lose less money. Sony is also trying to market Cell as an alternative for PC processors, especially in server systems and certain companies are buying it, which in turn makes them money. If Sony cant reach 6 million sold by the holidays this year, they will have no choice but to drop the price at Christmas time.
Halo 3 alone could stop the PS3chicagog19
u mean just like how halo1 and halo2 stopped the ps2?
get over it, halo games are done.
LOWER The price by $100.00 with all the great games and home coming out by this holiday season PS3 will no doubt fly off the shelves. If they realized all they need to do is just drop the price by $100.00, it would be lights out for MS this holiday season with its new "Elite" model. Ahammer80
Sony can't afford to drop the PS3's price down by $100.00Â
ok TC, listen up, there is a good chance that ps3 could get a 100 dollar price drop by Nov. The bluray production and cell production will drop in 5-6 months from now so anything is possible and would be very good news for those who cant afford the console.

Actually the XBOX outsold the PS2 the holiday Halo 2 came out and unless I'm mistaken, the 360 has outsold the PS3 every month that the PS3 has been on the market in America.

why not? im sure ur going by ms and its x360 logic. but ur wrong cuz x360 doesnt have bluray or hd-dvd or a cpu that is beyond the one in x360. Those two key components are the main reason why ps3 is soo expensive, new tech is always expensive when they first come out. X360 is $400 dollars but it doesnt have anything new or state of the art, it will remain $400 for a long time. They already said that bluray production will drop by a good number in 5-6 months from now.

dude, no1 will hear of mass effect, lost odyssey and too human when Halo3 and gta4 come out. So u got one exclusive game and one multiplat to go with.

wait you are talking about christmas 2004?nope,i have a link(coming) ,that the ps2 outsold everything during christmas 2004,I remember buying a ps2 in christmas 2004,they didnt have any all ps2 were sold out, sold out, sold out,in the other hand they were loads of xbox....thank god I found the last ps2 in stock..
it wont happen, no system that i can remember has ever had a price drop within there first year. its usually year 2 or middle of year 3 theres a price drop. 360 is more likely to get a price drop.jg4xchampWhat about the original XBox? Weren't they forced to cut price within six months when the PS2 cut price? It's what I call a price chase, and Sony has the unfortunate potential to face this. From a financial perspective, Microsoft and Nintendo are in the healthiest positions to make price cuts so are likely to do so first. Nintendo will probably trim the Wii to $200 in time for the '07 holiday season. Remember that it was at $200 that the PS2 really took off, so you can imagine the kind of reaction an already-popular Wii will get when it hits that same sweet spot? As for Microsoft, cutting the 360 Premium to $300 in time for Halo 3 will likely make a highly-anticipated game even more attractive--particularly if they pack the game in. Recall that the PS2 packed GT3 in for a while, and GT3 ended up being the best-selling console game last gen (almost 15 million).

dude, but its worth it.
no need to worry for a system failure, u get bluray, true 1080p, the two best games ever the mgs and ff games. You will feel on top of everything when you own the ps3.

Actually, it's precisely because Microsoft is using stock components that the 360's margin has improved so rapidly. Because many of the parts have reached commodity level, Microsoft can easily shop around and find cheaper parts and production techniques. By doing this, they've gone from losing $100+ each to parity or even a neat profit per sale in about a year.Meanwhile, although production on the BluRay drive and Cell CPUs are ramping up, yields are still relatively low--especially when you talk about trying to reach those needed Economies of Scale. Until they're achieved, the component prices will not drop that rapidly. Why do you think Sony is resorting to other shortcuts (such as removing the Emotion Engine that provided such a high PS2 backward compatibility) to cut production costs?
They already had a 500 dollar model.....

Red steel union?!! muhauhauhauha that this is fun heheheheheheheheheheh
lets wait for Super Mario Paper Union uahuahauhauha
But if it becomes that cheap then even 360/PS3 owners will have no problem buying one. Â
MS hasnt cut price in 17 months, you think sony will in less than a year? ahahahahaahHeHateMe_basic
umm yes for the following reasons:
1) Removal of Emotion Engine for software emulation to reduce production cost
2) New 65nm Cell Processors costing less to manufacture
3) Blu-Ray emerging as the winner and costing less to produce
4) Removal of the 20GB SKU
Seems reasonable to drop their system by $100
But then they would be losing $300 per unit instead of $200.foxhound_fox
No, they constantly make changes I am sure they are at least breaking even now and hope to make money soon. When they finely make money back and can produce them for under $500 they will drop the price.

Not so simple. If the 20 gig was still around then a $100 drop would truly help sells of the ps3 to the mass consumers. However, as it is today, that would only get us back to the price of the 20 (which Sony said no one wanted).
Â
Also you seem to think that the 360 elite will be the only one that consumers choose. Well if you believe so then you don't understand how retail works and how consumers think. The elite is designed for people who are looking beyond gaming. The premium still fits into the scoop of people just wanting to play games. And something else you need to realize, the core still sells. Why? Simply because not ALL people who choose to play games have all the same needs and wants. There are more dialup customers than high speed so going online for some isn't possible (meaning no live, no HD ppv movie and TV download service etc).
Â
This holiday will be won buy the cheapest console on the market and that's the wii. Next the 360 will lead above the ps3 (and if there are price cuts to be had then the 360 will give the wii a major run for the money).
Now add the gaming library with greatest hits priced under $30 and brand new selections some multiplat (GTA IV) and some not (Halo 3) and other major hits (some multi and some not) Bioshock, Mass effect, Assassins Creed, Madden 08, John Woo presents stranglehold, Smackdown vs. Raw 08 and Devil May Cry and then compare that to nearly the exact same lineup (a few exceptions) at price points of $599 for the ps3, and $299 core360, $399 premium360 and $479 elite360 (not even counting a price cut from either console maker); what do you think the average consumer is going to do?
Â
They will look to the Wii 1st due to cost; then people who want more out of gaming will look at the 360 because no matter what, it's all about the games. The average person isn't thinking DL movie services, isn't thinking blu ray players (esp. parents who will be buying these for their children) they are looking at the games and price. The ps3 will have to have a decent holiday but it won't be anything to jump up and down for either.

The original 20GB was the 500 model (pointing out the obvious) however because people wanted the higher end model they paid the extra hundred for the 60GB if the 60GB dropped by 100 to 500 then it would no doubt sell betterÂ
