I don't get it.. what was the point again?
I see that they need more time to get frame-rate issues for PS3 v. up too par...
Is PS3's notorious difficulty with development in question or something?
It takes so much extra work just to get a game up to par on the PS3. Wasn't Ps3 supposed to be vastly superior? or was Sony just blowing smoke as usual?Nugtoka
Like the Ps1, and Ps2 before, they flat out lied about the PS3 abilities

the ps2 was very hard to program for... and look how that turned out.
But yeah, I'm not sure why sony always goes for obscure system strctures...
but then again, when asking why people still support sony, I often wonder why people still suport MS after all the RROD issues.
God, this gen sucks.
It's not a question of lazy developers, it's a question of incompetent ones with potentially ineffective tools being up against a coding situation they may not be familiar, comfortable....whatever, with.
It takes time to adapt to any given situation, and the PS3 is, simply, a departure. If they had said this 12 months ago, no one would have cared. This is probably their first PS3 project and as such we need to take it with a grain of salt.
They didn't say "the PS3 is incapable of displaying the same rate of performance with the same level of intensity or the level of intensity or performance that we expect." They didn't say "we're incapable of making the PS3 display the same intensity at the same level of performance." They said "it's not working, we delayed it until we can figure it out."
I wish the spin doctors would give it a rest.
Which platform currently has the reigning graphics king? What do people say about the Playstation 3 in terms of peak performance? How do all of the most promising PS3 exclusives look?

Guys...this has nothing to do with the PS3s graphical capabilities and everything to do with the devs knowledge of cell architecture. Lemme give you an analogy:
You get a newb art student to draw a picture using a pencil only. It looks like crap and thus u claim that all pencil art is crap.
Thats exactly what you guys are doing. It takes time and skill to be able to program well on the PS3 as opposed to the X360 which is basically the same as programming for PC. Once people get accustomed to it, it will look great! Even the PS2 had a steep learning curve.

Yeah, and we've got junk on PS2, and then we've got the God of War series.
That, and the PS3 tools are significantly improving, especially over the PS2 tools. Um, let's put it this way: at least the PS3 has a dedicated and competent GPU....versus the PS2, which was noted for having really outdone itself late last gen, despite having a junky GPU and TERRIBLE developer tools.
Does the Xbox 360 have an advantage in terms of developer tools and in terms of familiarity/approachability? Yes. Should you be making that point? Yes. But should you freak out every time something plays out exactly in that mode, trying to stretch it to be a complaint against the PS3? No.
I dont think anyone is going to really care since MGS4 is almost out. When does this game ship? Looks like a pretty good game but ill be spending most of my time on MGS4. Ill buy it on my 360 after a few months of playtime on MGS4. :)clintos59Not everyone wants MGS4 so it does matter or else 120 million copies of all the other MGS games would have sold one for each PS2. So yes the lack of games on the PS3 will matter and games being delayed while every other system gets it is a bad thing.

Yeah but the other MGS games werent as hyped as this one, so look for MGS4 to sell very well and sell alot of consoles. And u really think alone in the dark is going to be a game ps3 owners want to buy when MGS4 is finally an exclusive that is right up there with any of the best games coming out this year? I think not. Alot ps3 owners are looking for a great ps3 exclusive to drop and what better game is there then MGS4 that is near? MGS4 is going to be a smash hit, and I know im not going to even think of alone in the dark because ive played the MGO beta and was addicted and cant wait to get back in there.
The PS3 version gets exclusive content, so I don't mind :)Taalon
Alone in the Dark for PS3 will be the same content as the 360 and PC versions but will still be "worth the wait."
Thats a quote straight out of the blog post.

Again not every PS3 owner will want MGS4. You say they will because it has large hype. Well look at the hype for Halo 3. There was never that much hype for a game ever and not every 360 owner bought the game. You may want MGS more then Alone in the Dark but that may not be the same for every PS3 owner in fact I am sure it is not. Many like horror games over stealth games.I am not saying either game will be good or bad just not everyone will ever want one game no matter the hype. Games being delayed for a console will never be a good thing for that console. For a person that wants this game now may buy it on a 360 or PC instead of the PS3. So in the end it can hurt the PS3.

You should know better than to use Wikipedia as a source. I really doubt the ps3 version would get any extra content, especially over the PC version. There's no graphic/space restrictions there.

Don't call the Devs lazy. It takes time and money to make a game. It's not easy either. Why would they want to make it harder? People should be mad at Sony for making it hard to Dev for.
Glad to see they're not going to just release it as is.

I totally understand what your saying and what u mean but u need to remember, Halo 3 was huge and has always been the xbox's bread and butter and still managed to sell over 8 or 9 million copies but the difference is the 360 has a big library of great games compared to the ps3. U see where im coming from. Right now the ps3 does have alot of great games but most of the really big games are third party games like Call of Duty 4, GTA4. U see other then these games there aint nothing else out there that is huge that ps3 owners want to buy. So u can almost bet since MGS4 is a big ps3 exclusive, the majority of those who own a ps3 is going to walk into the store and see MGS4 and Alone in the dark and u can bet that more then 80% of them is going to go with the best game on there system. Im not saying every ps3 owner will buy MGS4 but from the drought the ps3 has been having with exclusive titles, MGS4 is one game every ps3 owner is going to want to own. If not then why buy a ps3 unless u just using it for bluray which is dumb cause u can buy a bluray player for cheaper.
Yeah... I don't mind. I'm sure the people on the Playstation 3 will be happier for it to be running smoothly.
Sadly, all 17 people on the fence about consoles over this game will go with a PC, X360, Wii or Playstation 2.
COD4 seems to be fine, just sounds like lazy to me.Zoso-8
COD4 on the PS3 also had a much bigger development team working on that version, and by Infinity Ward's own admission a "supposedly more talented team" as well... just to get the game out at the same time, with near identical graphics.
Another inferior multiplat for the PainStation 3.Frexie
So far the multiplat games I own for PS3 play and look fine.
The PS3 has a more complex actictecture, some developers will need extra time to work with it and get more out of it, its nothing new. the 360 has the familiar PC like artictecture that many are familiar with, etc.
the hardware is all there, just depends on the devs and how much there willing to work on it.
if anyone tells you otherwise, there either a fanboy or in denial.
Also, i believe the 360 version was the lead platform, working from 360 to PS3 is a lot tougher and much easier doing it vice versa.

this is true - has nothing to do with laziness and it's great the devs are standing by their product.

Is PS3's notorious difficulty with development in question or something?
No, the PS3 is horribly bottlenecked and making a game look great has to be developed only for the PS3 otherwise it doesn't handle the methods used for PC and 360 very well. That's why all multiplat games on ps3 are inferior. I mean, getting frame rate up to 360 speeds is sad that they can't do that, and that means thigns like pulling special effects, downgrading resolution and scaling back up after, cutting texture resolutions and world gemoetry and models and instances of models down... which bites huge...
