Ok, after spending a week with Alpha Protocal I can honestly say this game disserves more praise. GS scored this game dead wrong. It's a blast to play! I am not the only one who thinks this either. I know quite a few people who said screw the review score and picked it up. Its great! It really picks up after the 2nd hour in. Its a long game too. This isn't the first time GS gave a game I love a low score, it seems they have been doing that a lot this gen. Sure the game could use more polishing, but that has never been Obsidians strong suit, and its the unreal 3 engine, there is only so much it can do.

What makes the game so great? AP combines two genres i love so much togeather to form a fantastic experience. WRPG decision making, item looting and character development mixed with 3rd person stealth stratigic action. The game actually changes based off of the decisions you make. And nothing is just black or white. You have multiple choices and you can change it up at anytime. You decide where you want to go next, what missions to take on. If you help one person another may not like it and treat you differently. You get perks and disadvantages based on how people percieve you. People can die and change your whole game up. It is really amazing how this was done. And it's sad that the low review score is going to turn people off. i would love a sequel or this idea getting more games made like it, but sadly that won't happen due to review scores.

I advise anyone who hasn't played this game yet, at least rent it and give it a chance. Don't look at the trashy GS score , they are just basing it off its graphics it seems. You may be turned off by that at first but belive me the game gets deep real deep. If you want to play something different you owe it to yourself to at least try this game. Obsidian is a great dev, they made some of my favorite rpgs like kotor 2 and nwn2, they are basically remnants of the old black isle studios and troika games (some of the best talent in rpgs ever.) If you are on the fence about this game give it a try. Sure it's not polihsed graphically, but really is that what you people play games for?

Between AP, RDR, Mod Nation and 3d dot heroes, its been a great time for gaming!

I haven't played it yet, but it sounds like a game I'd really like. Gamespot massively underrated Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, and it sounds like this is another one of those cases.

I'm going to rent it. A lot of the time reviewers give low scores due to lack of "polish/gloss", which doesn't really concern me most of the time.

My problem is that I rented Alan Wake weeks ago and I haven't even tried it because of Red Dead.

yah usually i believe scores like this, being well made and tons of fun don't always have to coincide with each other

I played it a bit yesterday. For a game with that much shooting, the shooting is horrible :? I didn't like it.

That isn't reason to rate it higher. From what I've seen it likely deserves the average to good ratings it has been getting.

I'll be getting it when the price drops a little.

played it and beat it imo this game is a solid 8.0 imo. there are problems with the game and especially when it comes to glitches and such but overall the game is great. it mixes RPG and stealth elements extremely well and the story is in typical, but great, espionage form.

The fact that the shooting and such has been bashed doesn't bother me at all. The gameplay has been criticized by people who expect their RPGs to play like something closer to Gears of War. I look forward to an action/RPG that puts the emphasis on the RPG.

No sorry a game that relies on shooting just be full of glitches that infringe on the quality of the game and/or controls. It's easy to point all the good things out TC...

I'm buying Alpha Protocol and Alien vs Predator along with it both of which I think are the two most missunderstood games of the year. I've seen revews bash Alpha Protocol's artificial intellegence, yet they praise Splinter Cell: Conviction's artificial intellegence, and Modern Warfare 2's artificial intellegence; now from what I've seen of both games, Alpha Protocol's artificial intellegence looks no worse or better than Splinter Cell: Conviction's artificial intellegence. The graphics in Alpha Protocl aren't that bad looking, infact I would even say they are above average, I've seen many worse looking video games. The only thing that looks a little strange are some of the animations, and even those don't look that bad, I don't see why everyone is laughing at Thorton's crouch walk thingie.

I will say this, no one scored this game wrong, it was their opinion as what I said was mine.

They did? Thats funny as that is one of my favorite games from last gen (baldur's gate and torment as well) I guess I prefer games that make you think. I loved Vampire the masquarde for some of the same reasons i am loving ap!

Yeah I plan to read this... I can see the continent thing. For instance, even though I am an American I tend to love the RPG and FPS games like Stalker and Gothic that came out in EU, yet they get bashed here for graphics or bugs. The sad thing is there isn't many devs making western ****rpgs in the US any more besides Bethesda and Obsidian.

I don't think anyone expect a RPG to be played like Gears of War.

But froma TPS/RPG hybrid like Alpha Protocol and Mass Effect 2 high quality shooting is to be expected.

Something that Apha Protocol (from what I've played) does not have.

This sounds like a game that is worthy of being cheked out out via a rental as many aspects do sound intriguing, but let's not sweep the problems under the rug by saying "they just gave it a low score based on graphics." That is completely misrepresenting the review.

That's because most people think ME2 has high quality roleplaying. Going by the Western definiton of roleplaying, that is.

Its a great game just lacking polish.

The choices you make and how they impact the game are some of the best ive seen in a RPG. Wearing different hats, hairstyles and glasses can even give different dialogue with some characters and its all fitting to the theme. What other RPG does that?

I maxed out martial arts, toughness and pistols, i was a walking tank that would just kick the hell out of everything in its way with not an once of stealth, and i loved it!

Although I haven't played it, ME2's roleplaying doesn't seem to be low quality. I think "lite" is a better word. And lite/=/low quality.

A game that delivers an extremely polished experience with great gameplay and an engaging story is probably not going to be hated on much even if it lacks a certain amount of depth.

Expecting high quality shooting from Alpha Protocol is the same thing as expecting Jade Empire to have high quality beat em up fighting.

R I D I C U L O U S

However, once you look pass that fine barrier that goes between the shallowness of TPS genre and the quality of an RPG game, you'll start to enjoy the game.

And to be fair and speaking about gameplay; if you really want to play the game in a mindless and brainless fashion, you could always upgrade the Assault Riffle skill and Toughness. That way you can play it like ME2.

The thing is, it doesn't work both ways. In ME2 you can't do the same thing AP does, but in AP you can do what ME2 does.

This game is the most disappointing this year............yes, what it does with the RPG elements, it does well...but coming from the one who did Planescape Torment, the story is a massive disappointment. Mass Effect 2 destroys it, character wise and plot wise, as well as gameplay wise. Really,t he only thing AP does better is character customization and choice and consquence. Everything else though...fail.

Ok. First, one of the main complaints people had about JE was its combat. So yes, quality combat was expected from that game. Secondly, yes, Fallout 3 had terrible shooting. But the sandbox, exploration-focused gameplay and VATS system made up for it. Neither of which changes that Alpha Protocol, which plays a lot like a TPS, has terrible shooting.

You should remember that the shooting in AP is not supposed to be "direct shooting"like ME,it´s all about dice rolls.

[QUOTE="LookAnDrolL"]It was an analogy. We could say the same thing about FO3. IronBass

Terrible shotting? Why?. Because if you don't put skill point where its due your character sucks?? hey, are we talking about RPG's here or what

No, we are talking about a TPS/RPG hybrid.
